Reminder: The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Blazers & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #186

It is almost time for the next edition of The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book and we would love for you all to join us! Nancy and I have chosen Blazers as the theme for September because they are the perfect layering option to transition into the cooler fall temperatures. So won’t you join us this month with some of your favorite (or least favorite) blazers whether they are silky or corduroy, velvet or plaid, paisley or striped, or just a classic black blazer that we all should own. Whether you love them or hate them, we want to see them!

What is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book?

It is a monthly series that Nancy and I both publish on our blogs on the 15th of each month. Anyone who would like to participate and be featured can send us their photos with a short description explaining if the item was a Good Buy or one that you will be saying Good-Bye to. We will give you the theme for the next month in each post. Photos will be due to us by the 10th of the month. So please join us for September by sending us some photos of your favorite (or least favorite) Blazers with a brief description as to why you love or hate them!

You can choose yourself whether you want to show a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to). We will keep purchasing Bad Buys every now and then for a variety of reasons…it was so cheap, you were in a hurry and really wanted (needed) to buy something, it fit almost quite right. But, of course, we also have those purchases that can make us so very happy. A piece of clothing or accessory that you have had for years and that you also wear a lot. Or something you bought on a holiday and every time you wear it you get that nostalgic holiday feeling back. Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye.

I have a love-hate relationship with blazers. I love the way they look. I hate them from a comfortability standpoint. I have owned blazers at nearly every price point throughout my adult life and I have yet to find one (even a perfectly tailored one) that feels comfortable to me. But yet, I still have managed to accumulate a whole bunch of blazers. Let’s check out the ones that have made it to blog worthy status. Hopefully, they will inspire you enough to join us!

And now the featured favorites from last week.

That is quite a collection over the years and most of them look pretty good to me. But I know exactly what you mean about fit, a tailored blazer or jacket is rarely kind to curves of any description!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Pamela, thanks so much! Blazers are that one garment that are very difficult to find comfort in. When I was a kid, my grandfather had the best collection of blazers and sports coats. All sorts of crazy plaids and such. I loved them. And when he died during my high school years, my grandmother let me take what I wanted and I would create the craziest outfits from them! Just these big giant oversized men’s sports coats (my grandfather was a very large robust man standing at 6’4″). Those weren’t so bad from a comfort level except they had a tendency to stink like Grampy’s really bad body odor! Hahaha. Wow, that was a nearly forgotten memory that was just triggered! I hope you have a lovely day!

I don’t own a single blazer. I used to wear them frequently in high school and even college but I don’t know why I no longer have any. You have SO many cute and different styles using them!! Thanks for featuring my closet post.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Joanne! I definitely did not wear blazers for a few years after I had my kids and decided to stay at home with them. My wardrobe transitioned very quickly in those early years of parenting. I went from a closet full of suits (from my days on Wall Street) to a closet full of cozy things like leggings and sweatpants! I only started wearing blazers again since I started blogging, I think! They are fun to style every now and again, but so not comfortable for my lifestyle! It was my pleasure to feature your closet post. Once I get to tackling my closet clean out (now that the basement clean out is nearly complete), I want to try to take photos of the process to share. I hope your week is off to a great start!

Thanks, Kathrine! I do have quite a few blazers. Most of them were thrifted, too! It is the one article of clothing that has a higher price tag in general that I hate to pay! Probably because I don’t find blazers comfortable and don’t wear them all that often, so I don’t want to pay a lot for them. But I have found some pretty great ones over the years.

Thanks so much, Mireille! I didn’t wear blazers for a ling time either because they simply did not suit my stay at home mom lifestyle. I started wearing them more often when I began blogging. Most of mine are thrifted because I hate to spend the money on blazers that I don’t wear frequently. I hope you are having a great week!

Lots of great outfits! And the elephant quilt – so sweet! I loved the winter wonderland pic of you in the green dress against the green trees and white snow. I also liked the white stockings and maroon sandals combo. There were also more things to like, I just can’t mention them all!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Tina! I had to laugh at the end of your comment because I have found myself in that same situation…wanting to write an entire blog post in someone’s comments because there is so much to say! Haha. I hope your week is off to a fantastic start!

Great collection there. A lot more than what I have. I think I own one, a black one. I really don’t wear them at all and never been a fan. Just me and being unsophisticated there.

Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful Tuesday.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks, Patrick! I don’t think there is anything unsophisticated about not wearing blazers. I am pretty certain that Jeff does not even own one except his dress uniform jacket! He probably does need to get a basic black one though. It is a good thing to have on hand, I suppose. I hope your week is off to a great start!

Shelbee you certainly rock the blazers…and the hairstyles! I love how you get out there in the style world and try things. Your personality is adventurous and fun – I know it! As for blazers themselves, I have two. A mere two! What in the world?

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Aw, Chrissy, thanks so much! I recently had this revelation that I literally play dress up nearly every day. Whatever mood strikes me, I want to wear the costume that is suitable to my mood. For so long, I thought it was silly and childish, but I now just realized that it’s okay to have fun and be adventurous in lots of different things! Thank you for helping to validate that for me.

So many blazers, so little time! hehe. I love blazers too, and especially with the Fall approaching. You have so many great ones, i especailly am fond of the plaid blazers. I also love the look with the jean shorts, tights and boots. I want to get some textured or patterened tights and wear them like this. You have a wonderful collection and they look great!
    have a great day

Jess, thanks so much! I really love patterned blazers, too. But the classic solid colors are such great closet staples. Hopefully you can join us this month with a few of your favorite blazers! I can’t wait for tights weather to set in and stay for a while! definitely check out Sock Dreams for cute tights! And I have found some really great ones on Amazon as well.

You have some fab blazers Shelbee. My faves are the black and white check blazer (with Star Wars tee) and orange patterned one. Both very quirkily Shelbee style.

  • Ashley

Your blazer history is long and fabulous! I’m like you and have a ton in my wardrobe- I love ’em with everything from classic work outfits to thrown over a lightweight sweatshirt and jeans (or shorts in the early summer). So many ways to wear!

Thanks so much, Ashley! They are a fun way to add some extra interest to an outfit especially when a blazer is an unexpected style. Like with joggers and stuff. Hopefully, you can join us this month with some of your favorite blazers!

For someone who has a love/hate relationship with blazers, Shelbee, you sure know how to style them! There are so many fab looks here!! I especially love the quarterback one, the orange paisley one, and a couple of those plaids. They look amazing on you! I love blazers and have always had them in my closet. Mostly cause I wore them to work but I’ve also worn them a lot with jeans and a tee. It’s just kind of my go-to. You don’t see them much on the blog as I tried to break out of that rut but I’m gravitating that way again. So I will definitely participate this month!!

    xx Darlene
And Ralphie is definitely rocking his blazer! That cutie!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Darlene, thanks so much! I do love the look of a blazer. You can do so much with them. And jeans and a tee shirt with a blazer is seriously one of my favorite combinations. I just can never feel comfortable in blazers. But I have accumulated a lot over the years. Most of my blazers are thrift shop finds though so I didn’t spend a ton of money on any of them. I can’t wait to see what you send in this month!

Awwww…., thanks for the shout out about the elephant quilt. I’ve got the backing made, so progress is being made towards its finish.

And so many cute blazer filled outfits! I have precisely one blazer. It’s new. I ordered it in early spring and it came on a slow boat from China, arriving after it was warm here. I haven’t even had a chance to wear it yet!

    Michelle

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Ha, Michelle, I have one of those blazers as well…I ordered a really cute lace trimmed green corduroy one from China and it didn’t arrive until it was too warm! We should do a blog post together featuring our new blazers that took too long to arrive! That might be super fun! I suppose I have way more blazers than most people do. But I have way more of most things when it comes to clothing and accessories than most people do. I hope you are well, my friend!

I think tailoring is a great idea especially for blazers. And I have long arms so I would usually need the sleeves lengthened instead of shortened. Isn’t it funny how the clothing makes us realize these things about ourselves!? Thanks for stopping by, Cheryl! Have a fabulous day!

  • Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom

My blazers are my least worn pieces in my closet! Lol! But, I hold onto them… I don’t really have a lot of opportunities to wear them. Ohh, I love the blazer you have over your wedding dress, so, so clever and cute!

    Carrie
    curlycraftymom.com

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Carrie, thanks so much! I basically only wear my blazers for photoshoots these days. I will generally wear the outfit that I shoot for the whole day but the blazer gets discarded very quickly after photos are done! Most of my blazers are thrifted including that cute gray plaid one over my wedding dress. I paid about $4 for it!

Shelbee, I don’t know how you do it to take so many great pics!! I want your energy! And I too have this love hate relationship with blazers! When they’re good they’re really good , but when they’re bad…horrible!!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Aw, Lucy, thanks so much! I don’t really have much energy at all. Haha. I just push through the tired constantly! I feel like Finding Nemo…must keep swimming! Hopefully you have some blazer pictures you can share with us this month! They don’t have to be new photos…just what you already have.

Wow Shelbee what a lot of fabulous blazer outfits – when you’ve been blogging a few years it’s amazing how many OOTDs you can look back on, isn’t it…?!

Thank you for hosting, hopefully I’ll make linking up a more regular thing (I know I say that every time, lol 😉 )!!

Catherine, thanks so much! I am so excited that you are joining us this month! I love preparing these round up posts each month because it is fun to see what I have styled in the past. So many great looks here Shelbee. Love your blazers. I wore mine in London this weekend. Can’t believe I brought it for an interview and it had been sitting in my wardrobe for over 2 years!! Loved wearing it as well. Thanks for hosting.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Claire! I do love the bit of structure that a blazer can add especially to a more casual outfit. If you took photos of your blazer outfit in London, you should send us one to be featured this month! We would love for you to join us.
