Pink Plaid Poncho & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #644
I have been wanting to share my pink plaid poncho that my mother-in-law gave to me for Christmas since, well, Christmas. In fact, I was so eager to share it that I styled and photographed it on New Year’s Day and then life got crazy and I never got around to posting it. But that’s okay because the outfit and not-so-snowy background of these photos are much more appropriate now that the spring equinox has occurred. Ironically, there is much more snow on the ground today than there was on January 1. And we have more to come according to the 10 day forecast. So if you were looking for spring style inspiration, you won’t be finding here yet. But I can give you spring colors with my fabulous pale pink poncho!
If the poncho looks familiar to you, it’s because my mother-in-law gave me a similar one in gray for Christmas 2021. I also wore the gray one with all black but I gave it a 70s twist with flared jeans and platform boots. I changed the silhouette this time with skinny jeans and flat riding boots instead. But I stuck with my regular accessory combination of a hat, gloves, necklace, and earrings.
I am not sure which I like better, the gray or the pink. I really do enjoy wearing both colors, so I guess I am pretty blessed to have been gifted two ponchos! Thanks, Gramma!
I have also been really blessed in the mother-in-law department! Not only does she know my style so perfectly well, but she is also one of the biggest supporters of my blog, reading nearly every post (I hope she hasn’t read some of the more, um, risqué posts) and sharing comments and compliments on Facebook. I don’t say thank you enough (because I really don’t engage much on social media these days) so I am saying it now! Thank you, Gramma, for all the fabulous gifts you have given to me over the years, including my husband. He is my favorite one!
Seriously though, she hasn’t gifted me anything that I didn’t love! Check out some of these gorgeous things…
There are definitely more things, but I can’t seem to find them in the 1,743 posts I have published on this blog. One thousand seven hundred forty-three posts written. That’s a lot of words.
Lately, however, I have been short on words and heavy on photographs. It’s sort of the easy way out for me until I get my writing motivation back. For now, my painting motivation has taken over! I will share my living room makeover with you all once it is complete (which will hopefully be next weekend).
And that is all I have for you this week…a pink plaid poncho, a painting project, and a most exceptional mother-in-law!

Thanks so much, Jill! Honestly, the toggle closure is my favorite part about this poncho! I am really excited to share my living room makeover. It is turning out even better than I had imagined!

You are blessed to have such a wonderful mother-in-law! Can I have her as mine? :). That is the cutest poncho and I love your entire photo shoot.

Aw, Amy, thanks so much! I really am blessed! I will share her! Hahaha. Actually, I think you and she would get along swimmingly!

That’s a very pretty one! I even don’t know which one I love more, they are both fabulous. Good luck with the painting job! From this weekend on until the end of April, we have every weekend dates with friends! I’m ready to embrace life again!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Nancy! I have one more wall to paint then I will share some photos! It is all coming together more beautifully than I even imagined. I am also ready to start living life a bit! But my focus is not on friends right now. I am tackling home projects every weekend instead!

First off, thanks for the shout out. It was a very welcome surprise.
I love this outfit! And when you said you didn’t know which you like better the pink or gray, I thought “the gray can’t be better than the pink.” But after looking, I think it’s a tie. Your MIL has amazing taste, and knows yours as well. The zippered jeans are so cute!
I fight with myself all of the time in regard to energy and focus allocation, but the truth is we have a finite amount and if you focus on one thing, it takes away from another. I find it really difficult when I want to make and do all of the things. I can’t wait to see your new pain pics!

Aw, you are very welcome, my friend. And thank you for your kind words! I also didn’t think that boring old gray could compete with this lovely shade of pale dusty rose, but I do love the gray on me especially now that I have quit dying my hair! I have one more wall to paint in my living room. I also want to paint the ceiling beams which is a huge task, but I will share photos before that because I need to work up some motivation for all that teeny tiny ceiling work. It looks so amazing so far!

I love the pink plaid poncho, Shelbee! I’d love to have something like that in my closet. Great choice by your mother-in-law!

Niky, thanks so much! I fall in love with nearly every poncho I see so I have amassed quite the collection. But they really do come in handy and they are so fun to style!

What a beautifully colored shawl, great with black but the pink softens it. I particularly like the toggle fastening to keep it in place without having to clutch at it!

Pamela, thanks so much! I have always loved the contrast between pale pink with black. And the toggle closure is my very part about this poncho!

Love the pink poncho!! This outfit looks so good on you too. Maybe I need a poncho and some black pants.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, April! I have a bit of an obsession with topper pieces like ponchos, kimonos, and ruanas! I think they add the perfect amount of drama to any outfit in one easy step! I think maybe you do need one. Ha.

Pretty in pink! Lovely poncho!
Mother-in-laws – when they get it right, they get it right!
My x-MIL gave me some great things too, these all from the ’80s:
A stew pot that I use a lot.
The best food processor, a Robocoupe, which I finally had to replace this year because the plastic food holder thing (there must be a term!) split and leaked. We looked on eBay for a replacement part to no avail.
A Pentax SLR that I used on many many road trips until everything went digital.
The sewing machine that got me through my Fashion Design BFA.
Thanks Pollie!
Have a great weekend!

Thanks, Anne! OMG I love this comment so much! Pollie sounds like she had a real knack for choosing perfect gifts as well! The guy I dated right before I met Jeff had a super awesome mother as well. I still have a few things that she had gifted me including this fun yellow jacket. She was an avid thrifter and antiquer and if I said I liked something in her house, she would insist that I take it! Our living room coffee table is a giant wooden chest that she insisted I have because I thought it was super awesome. It is now on my list of things that need a makeover! I am going to attmept some furniture refinishing this summer. Eek. I hope your weekend is fabulous, my friend.

PS Thanks for the shout out on the post I added to last week’s link-up 😁

Rena, thanks so much! I definitely am blessed in the MIL department, for sure! Although I have always joked with my husband that he got the best in-laws ever…dead ones! Ha. (Both of my parents died years before I even met my husband). I have one more wall to paint then I will share some photos of my living room!

Your mother-in-law has great taste! I love that poncho! I have been wearing more of that style myself over Winter – easy to throw on top of an outfit for nipping out or going out and they are so warm! 🙂 Can your mother-in-law adopt me?! 🙂
Thank you for hosting! Sim x

You look stunning in this pink poncho! I love those zippered jeans…they make your legs look sooooo long! You definitely won the MIL lottery! She has definitely showered you with thoughtful and loving gifts. I can’t wait to see your new living room reveal! I want to do something really dramatic in one of the rooms in the house, but I’m not sure what or which one! Thanks for the linkup!

Aw, Marsha, thank you so very much! I really did get lucky in the MIL department! My living room has definitely undergone a dramatic transformation. I really want to get the ceiling beams painted before I share the big reveal though. But it is a job that intimidates me!
