New York State of Mind & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #693
I am writing this post on Tuesday morning, sitting on Becca’s couch in beautiful Tuckasegee, North Carolina, while her adorable pup Emmylou snores beside me. It is too dark to capture a photo right now so I went and swiped one from Becca’s Facebook page.
Just look at that face! Emmylou and I are kindred spirits. She is most definitely my favorite canine on the planet.
My trip has been wonderful so far. I drove most of Saturday and Sunday and I was so grateful for clear weather and light traffic the whole way. Becca invited her friends Gordon and Billy over for dinner on Sunday night which was really great. I had met them on our trip in October so it was wonderful to catch up with new friends. And it also felt a bit like a welcoming party which was super cool!
On Monday, Becca and I drove to Knoxville, Tennessee, to spend the day as tourists. We did some shopping and had a delicious lunch (fried green tomatoes and fish tacos, yum) and then headed back home. It was about 2 1/2 hours of driving each way so much of the day was spent in the car again.
But driving with a friend for 5 hours is way more entertaining than driving alone for 5 hours, which is exactly what I will be doing on Wednesday and Thursday…driving 5 hours each way to visit friends in Fayetteville, North Carolina, clear across the state. But it will totally be worth it! They relocated from northern New York to North Carolina at the end of last year so I am really excited to visit them in their new place of residence. And I miss my friends! Between old friends moving here and meeting new friends on each visit, I am slowly building a wonderful network of North Carolina pals for when we relocate here in about 7 years.
Friday is girls’ day in Asheville and then Saturday will be some more local hanging out before I start the trek back north on Sunday morning.
On Monday night, however, I got a phone call from my mother-in-law telling me that Ralph had a fever of 102.5, was coughing a lot, sleeping all day, and had no appetite. That was enough to take me from Carolina in My Mind to a New York State of Mind. Oh, I do so hate it when my babies are unwell. I was tempted to jump in the car and head home right then…except it was way too late at night at that point. I cannot and will not drive in the dark. These old eyes have made nighttime driving unsafe for me and anyone else on the road.
Thankfully, Ralph’s temperature was down to 100.3 the next morning and he had an appetite which helped to ease my mom panic so I can get back to relaxing and enjoying my kid-free holiday.
Before I get back to my vacation, however, let me tell you a little about this outfit. This fun green cardigan was a souvenir from our trip to Asheville in October. I wear it all the time but I have not shared it here yet. It is super soft and cozy and I love the avocado green color, which is my very favorite shade of green.
I have this super soft tunic tee from Torrid in about a dozen different colors and probably 5 of those colors work well with this cardigan. I went with the salmony pink one this time, black leggings, my favorite floral scarf, and my thrifted moccasins. This orange hat along with all of my big brimmed felt hats have been in regular rotation during the cooler months. Speaking of hats, wait until you see the two amazing hats I bought in Knoxville. I always get so excited over a new hat so two new hats really did double my joy! I will try to share them soon.
And this where I will leave off. I hope you all have a joyful weekend! Remember to join the link party below and click around for inspiration!

What a lovely but obviously tiring vacation, you’ll need a rest when you get home! You girls certainly needed to and know how to layer, it looks chilly. I love it when folks are upfront enough to offer a compliment!

Great colorful, creative and comfortable outfit for a road trip, Shelbee! It sounds like you’re having a wonderful time-out from your regular routine, and a great holiday. It does sound like you’ll need a vacation from your vacation when you get home, though. Thanks for linking and sharing!

Thank you so much for the feature! It sounds like you are having a wonderful trip. I’m so glad Ralphie improved overnight; tis so hard when our kids are sick especially when we’re not there to look over them. But I know he was in great hands!

Thanks, Joanne! Oh my goodness, I definitely was able to relax and enjoy my vacation more once I knew Ralph was feeling better. I knew he was in good hands with Gramma but I know Gramma gets just as upset as I do when my babies are sick so that added to my stress!

I envy you the girls only trip as well as the anticipation of moving to North Carolina…truly one of the most beautiful places ever! While I envy you the girls trip, I don’t envy you the driving. I’m terrible at navigating when it comes to big cities. I’m OK otherwise. I can’t wait to see your new hats! You wear them so wonderfully! How did Becca like her raggery project? I’m sure she loved it as it was gorgeous!
Have a wonderful rest of your vacation and a safe journey home! Thanks, too, for the link up!

Marsha, thank you so much! It really is so beautiful here and the people just have a different vibe from northerners. A vibe that is much more suitable to my personality. I don’t like big cities or navigating through them either. Fortunately, this road trip doesn’t take me through any cities that are bigger than the town I grew up in so I don’t get too nervous driving through them. Becca absolutely loves her rag curtain and I donated Unicorn Tears to her school! Her students freaked out! She works in a project based school so she is going to video chat me into her classroom some time and we are going to teach her kids how to make small raggery wall hangings!

Gail, thank you so much! Planning is definitely in the works. Until I can move here permanently, I am going to enjoy every moment of my time spent in the Smoky Mountains!

Your cardigan is beautiful! It looks fabulous with the hat, scarf and fringed boots. Glad to hear Ralph is feeling better, it’s so worrying when kids get sick and we can’t be with them.
