Monochromatic in Maize & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #714
As my pantry/mudroom remodel continues, I spent most of the last week in my scruffy paint-splattered remodeling clothes sanding the stinky old wood floor and stairs. So I am sharing another outfit that I wore and photographed.
When the weather gets hot and sticky, my favorite combination of clothing is a long sundress and a lightweight topper. I picked up this maize colored dress for under $10 last year and I liked it so much that I also bought it in lavender. I have a variety of different kimonos, robes, and other toppers that would coordinate well with the pattern and color of this dress. I must have been feeling kind of monochromatic that day when I chose this mustardy yellow robe to top the dress.
I wore my handy old straw hat with a brown embossed belt and really old brown suede tassel sandals. There is a tiny bit of robin’s egg blue in the dress so I incorporated that color into my jewelry and hair ties.
If it gets too hot and humid out, I generally cannot tolerate wearing a belt. But the belt definitely gives the dress some much needed shape when I layer the robe on top. Without the robe, however, the dress is fine beltless. It all depends on the weather and my mood!
For more outfit inspiration, you can check out my other monochromatic looks in red, black, marsala, brown, winter white, green, gray, ivory, pink, blue, dark blue, light blue, purple, eggplant, lilac, yellow, and orange.
That is all I have for today. It is time for me to start painting the pantry/mudroom floor this weekend. I have never painted a floor before so I really don’t know what to expect from this process!

Love this outfit. What a yummy color! I, too, am slowly converting my wardrobe to rayon or cotton summer dresses. I admit to having trouble finding longer ones, but it’s a process. I’ve sent 5 or 6 bags to ThredUp. I don’t make a lot of money with it, but it’s the easiest way to get clothing out of my closet since the post office picks up the bags, and I’m all about convenience.

Thanks, Michelle! I have been bagging up my unwanted clothes and stuck them all in the basement for future raggery projects! My plan is to use it all! But I hear you about convenience. Some things aren’t great for scrap fabrics so those I bag up and either donate or sell to my friend’s consignment shop. I sell it to her very very cheap so I don’t have to be bothered with all the consignment hassle either. She buys it from me for almost nothing and makes back what she paid me if she sells just 2 garments of mine. I like that convenience, too! And I like that it helps my friend’s business!

Convenience is important! I do have a pile a clothing in the sewing room awaiting upcycling too. 😀

Oh Shelbee, I love your outfit-it comes together is so beautifully in all the golden tones, and you look cool and comfortable for summer. You are putting a lot of sweat equity into your home, I know it will pay off for you, now and later when you move. Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing and the link up!

Di, thanks so much! I am excited to get back to wearing my dresses once this mudroom makeover is complete! I am sweating through this home improvement process for sure, but I love it! I actually really do enjoy nearly every step of the process. My husband keeps me thanking me and saying that he would live in a very dull and boring neutral colored house because he wouldn’t know how to do any of the stuff I am doing! Hahaha. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

That dress and topper look like they were made to go together!

I thought so, too! They were both purchased from Kohl’s in the same season but they are two completely different brands. It must have been a popular color that year!

I love the way you seem to just throw things together and they turned out looking perfect! I lack that skill (then again, I also haven’t put forth any effort to build up my wardrobe to have things to choose from!, so it’s my own fault). 🙂 I haven’t painted a floor either, so I hope it’s going well!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Lisa, thank you so much! I always thought it was kind of a frivolous skill, but I have grown to appreciate it more the older I have gotten. I like clothing and finding creative ways to pair things together and it makes me happy! I started painting the floor yesterday and so far it is not as terrible as I had anticipated. I am actually quite enjoying the process. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

Oh, I love this monochromatic look, Shelbee! It all just flows and works together so well. I really like turquoise and that particular shade of yellow together. Love the way you can tie up your hair, too! I cannot wait to see the unveiling of the mudroom…it’s gonna be fabuous!

Thank you so much, Marsha! I have been trying to come up with some more creative ways to style my hair. It is so long now that it there is very little I can do with it! I just started painting the mudroom floor yesterday and I am loving it so far! I am taking a break this week though to visit my sister in Pennsylvania!
