Look Alike Day & Your Own Twist Link Up #43
You might be wondering about Look Alike Day. You also might be thinking that Monica and I look nothing alike in that cover image. Although Monica and I have inadvertently dressed alike for previous Your Own Twist themes (my favorite time was when we both wore giant unicorn heads), this time we were not meant to look like each other.
National Look Alike Day happens every year on April 20. I do not think it is a coincidence that it falls on 4/20 because it is the silliest of silly holidays but it is also one of the best holidays. This holiday celebrates those individuals who look like another person. As I have always understood it, don’t we all have a doppelganger somewhere in the world? If that’s true, then Look Alike Day celebrates every single one of us! What’s better than that?! Well, we each get to celebrate two people…ourselves and the person we look alike.
Although we may all have a look alike somewhere in the world, there is only a 1 in 135 chance that a single pair of exact doppelgangers exists. Often our dopplegangers resemble us because we have similar features that are arranged in similar proportions. You can tell the difference but the likeness is too uncanny to go unrecognized. This article is a really fascinating study of doppelgangers…You are surprisingly likely to have a living doppelganger.
As far as doppelgangers go, I don’t think I have met mine yet. While Monica and I may share a few similar physical descriptors (we are both tall with dark hair), we are certainly not doppelgangers and have never been mistaken for the other.
So what’s a girl to do for Look Alike Day when she doesn’t know her look alike?
She dresses like someone else! I suppose that would be more aptly called Dress Alike Day but I don’t make the holidays, I just change the rules! And then I dressed like Miranda Lambert (I am wearing her boots!) and headed out for date night in Syracuse with Jeff.
I am not wearing her actual boots that were on her feet nor am I wearing similar boots to the ones she has on in that photo up there. I am wearing my new Idyllwind by Miranda Lambert cowgirl boots that I told you have been on constant repeat. I didn’t try to look like Miranda Lambert either because I don’t look anything like her. Rather I drew my inspiration from the woman who designed my footwear. Because for style challenges on my blog, there are no rules!
This outfit actually started with the tights as I was planning on wearing a short dress with black over the knee boots. I couldn’t find the tights I was looking for but these sassy lace ones caught my attention and the outfit creation began. As most in things in my closet are, this dress is too big, but the Western inspired belt seemed to fix that problem in the best possible way. This is the first time I have worn my pearl embellished denim jacket. It totally screamed country music star to me.
It was raining outside so we took photographs in the hotel and the lighting was just awful not to mention the disaster of frizz on my head! But I work with what I’ve got. We went out to eat where there was live music and it was just too darn loud for us. We then met some friends for drinks at another bar and were back safely in our hotel around 11:00 for a quiet kid-free night while the in-laws stayed at home with the boys. I always appreciate a date night with my husband and we had a wonderful time!
I don’t know if you can tell now who Monica’s look alike is…you’ll have to hop over and see!
About Your Own Twist
Your Own Twist is a monthly link party hosted by Monica of Jersey Girl, Texan Heart and me on the third Thursday of every month with the goal of inspiring some of our friends to get creative with personal style.
The idea behind this collaboration is to take one common piece or theme and style it our own way with our own twist…Monica and I have both taken a lot of fashion inspiration from one another over the past few years even though we have totally different styles. It is always fun to see how we can interpret similar items in unique ways or what kind of twist we will each bring to the chosen theme.
We will let you know the themes well in advance in the event that you would like to use the theme for your own post and add it to the link party. However, any fashion posts are welcome regardless of whether you used the theme or not. Check out the graphic below which has some of our upcoming style prompts.

How fun! I had never heard of look alike day… I know I have not met my doppleganger! I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone that looks even remotely like me; I mean not enough for anyone that knows me to confuse us but I swear I have seen dopplegangers of people I know out and about.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Joanne! It’s funny because I found a friend’s doppelganger on Look Alike Day and it was such an uncanny resemblance I thought it was the same person! But I didn’t realize it was Look Alike Day until the following day (yesterday) when I was writing this post!

I haven’t heard of this day before! I do/did have a doppelganger in grade and high school. We were frequently mistaken for each other. At the time, I was not amused. Now, I’d love to see her and see if we still resemble each other!
I love this look, Shelbee! Those tights are amazing! And, that pearl-embellished denim jacket – chef’s kiss!!!
Thanks for the link party!

Your True Self
Hi, Shelbee – It doesn’t matter at all if your hair is frizzy because we don’t notice it when you have that big, beautiful smile! Thanks for showing this wonderful outfit – Angie, http://www.yourtrueselfblog.com

Apparently, my dad saw my doppelganger in London once! And I stalked a guy around the supermarket because he was the spitting image of my brother, and it was just to freaky LOL! I was always told I looked like Sporty Spice when I was a younger, and Liza Minnelli when I had my pixie cut! But you inspired me to create a reel about it, which I posted yesterday.
I LOVE your outfit, and I’m totally getting country vibes, Shelbee. Love those tights!!
Huge hugs

Oh my gosh, Suzy, I love this comment so much! I can picture you stalking your brother’s doppelganger in the grocery store and I am cracking up! Many years ago someone sent me a photo from an adult magazine with a woman engaged in certain acts that zoomed in on her face and she was absolutely my doppelganger. We laughed so freaking hard! Of course my doppelganger would be in a sex magazine! Haha.

So, I’m sitting here with a hot water bottle on my tummy, having horrible period pains feeling sorry for myself and I read your comment about your doppelgänger and you totally made me laugh out loud!! You instantly made me feel better!!! LOL of course your doppelgänger would be in a sex magazine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Freaking hilarious!!!!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Hahahaha, thanks so much, Suzy! It’s so freaking funny, isn’t it?! By the way, it was my brother-in-law of all people who showed it to me! He was like, “Hey, when did you start your new career?” LOL
I am so sorry you are suffering from period pains! I am just finishing with that nonsense. Today should be the last day. And I have been loving my new period panties! Thanks for the suggestion. I am going to write a post about them in a few weeks!
I hope you feel better soon!
