It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #721
Yesterday, my children returned to school but they didn’t want any first day of school photos shared publicly. So I guess I’ll share my first day of school outfit instead. This is what I wore yesterday to take the kids to school and then Jeff and I had a back to school breakfast date at our favorite diner. I got lots of compliments on this vibrant kimono robe from a large table of lovely folks!
In honor of back to school, I wrote a silly little parody for Andy Williams’ 1963 Christmas hit, “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”. Because Back to School is way better than Christmas!
Original Lyrics
It's the most wonderful time of the year
With the kids jingle belling
And everyone telling you be of good cheer
It's the most wonderful time of the year
It's the hap-happiest season of all
With those holiday greetings and gay happy meetings
When friends come to call
It's the hap-happiest season of all
There'll be parties for hosting
Marshmallows for toasting
And caroling out in the snow
There'll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories of
Christmases long, long ago
It's the most wonderful time of the year
There'll be much mistletoeing
And hearts will be glowing
When loved ones are near
It's the most wonderful time of the year
There'll be parties for hosting
Marshmallows for toasting
And caroling out in the snow
There'll be scary ghost stories
And tales of the glories of
Christmases long, long ago
It's the most wonderful time of the year
There'll be much mistletoeing
And hearts will be glowing
When loved ones are near
It's the most wonderful time
Yes, the most wonderful time
Oh, the most wonderful time
Of the year
My Lyrics
It's the most wonderful time of the year
When the kids stop their yelling
And always rebelling with a scowl and a sneer
It's the most wonderful time of the year
It's the hap-happiest season of all
With those school board meetings and loud happy greetings
From friends in the hall
It's the hap-happiest season of all
There'll be homework for posting
Achievements for toasting
And yellow highlighters that glow
There'll be historical stories
And tales of the gories of
Conflicts from long, long ago
It's the most wonderful time of the year
There'll be things that need knowing
As young brains are growing
When teachers are near
It's the most wonderful time of the year
There'll be awards for boasting
Easy classes for coasting
And recesses out in the snow
There'll be interesting stories
And tales of the glories of
Sports teams from long, long ago
It's the most wonderful time of the year
There'll be much undergoing
As students unknowing
Become friends with their peers
It's the most wonderful time
Yes, the most wonderful time
Oh, the most wonderful time
Of the year

Oh Shelbee, I love your back to school parody. You are so clever-it gave me a good laugh! I hope your boys are happy to be back at school and enjoy the year ahead. Love your celebratory outfit, your print kimono is stunning and the colors of your whole outfit are so serene. Enjoy your weekend and thanks for the link up!

Di, thanks so much! I really liked these colors together as well. I wore this outfit 3 days in a row because I liked it so much! This is the first year that my kids were actually really excited to get back to school. Archie is playing football for the first time and loves it and Ralph was just accepted into the gifted and talented program so he is really excited, too!

I’m not surprised the kimono got compliments. Lovely color and design. I adore that cheerful hat. The song words are very funny. Parents deserve a medal in my view, for coping during those long summer vacations!

Thanks so much, Gail! I bought this kimono a few years ago and forgot about it until now. Now I want to wear it all the time! Parenting in the summer can be more challenging than other times, but teachers deserve the medals for dealing with rooms filled with unruly children and then actually accomplishing something with them!

Love you rewriting of “Wonderful Time”
Sadly for me, I’m at the other end, teaching two classes…
“Calgon, take me awayyyyyyyy”

Thank you and you’re welcome! Do they still make Calgon? I can’t even type it without my laptop autocorrecting it to something else. Ahhh, yes, Calgon is 94 years old and still going strong…ready to take you away whenever you are ready!

This post has me feeling ever so slightly nostalgic for the days when my kids were still that age. You did a wonderful job with the alternative lyrics for “It’s the most wonderful time of the year” and of course, you look fabulous!

Oh, I sang the title to your post in my head and absolutely loved your version!!! Andy would be proud. Love the striking colors of your kimono…I don’t doubt there were lots of jealous eyes upon you. I also really, really love that hat! I think it’s so good your kids don’t start until now. My grands have all been in school for over a month. They’ll be out around Memorial Day and have two week vacations in the fall, winter, and early spring. I’d give those extra weeks up for the later start, personally! Thanks for the link up, Shelbee!
Have a wonderfully fabulous weekend!

Thanks so much, Marsha! I have been singing that darn song in my head for days! I didn’t realize how striking the colors on the robe are until I was looking through the photos. It really does stand out in a crowd! I like the later start of our school year because we only get really nice weather during the summer months. But starting late also means ending late and I do not like that they stay in school until the last week of June. But it is what it is, I guess! I hope your weekend is beautiful, my friend.

Haha, so you are a song writer too! I can imagine it’s nice to have them at home but it’s nicer when they get back to their ritme. What a good idea to have a breakfast date on that first day!

Hahaha, I wish I had the ability to actually write a song! I can only copy and parody what has already been written. I do love having my kids around but back to school is so good, too! We had a wonderful date day. It was the first time Jeff and I were alone since school left out for the summer!
