Inspired by Thirty Minus One: Foolproof Summer Outfit
Who doesn’t love any kind of foolproof outfit combination? As much as I enjoy concocting crazy ensembles with lots of layers and quirky details, there are plenty of days when I simply don’t have the energy or the desire to have to think all that creatively while choosing my outfit for the day.
Fortunately, there are some combinations that always work, whether you want to add all the bells and whistles to the final result is up to you. But keeping it basic and minimalist will still have you looking stylish and completely put together in certain foolproof outfit combinations.
One of these combinations is black and denim. Seriously, put them together and see for yourself. Your favorite pair of jeans combined with a simple black top and a pair of fun shoes and you will step out of your house looking fabulously chic and classically styled.
Because I have a tendency to overdo all the stuff when creating an outfit, occasional reminders that sometimes less really is more are very welcomed here. When I saw Nailil of Thirty Minus One in her very smart combination of distressed light wash denim, simple black camisole, and strappy flat sandals, I was absolutely inspired to create a similar look for myself. The really great thing about Nailil’s Foolproof Summer Outfit is that most of us already have all of the pieces necessary to create a similar style.
I tried to tuck in my camisole like Nailil did, but it just was not flattering on me. So I opted for the flowy back cami over my distressed boyfriend jeans. And since there really are no rules when it comes to finding outfit inspiration from another person, I stuck with the basic pieces but styled them in a way that works best for my body and my personality.
Speaking of personality, I did eventually end up adding one of my trademark kimonos as an extra layer to this outfit. Kimonos are so great to keep the chill of the air conditioning at bay as well as to provide a nice light layer to keep my wicked pale skin from burning in the summer sun.
Let me shift gears now…
As much as I love fashion and style and creative expression through clothing, I adore people even more. I have always been fascinated and inspired by the stories of others as we can discover so much richness about a person when we take the time to get to know them and learn about the journey that brought them to the place where you are meeting them. I first encountered Nailil in 2016 when she initially launched her fashion and lifestyle blog and I have been a loyal reader ever since.
Nailil is a Latina fashion blogger who shares all of her her content in both English and Spanish, reaching a much broader audience and inspiring women from various cultures. She lives in Texas with her retired Army husband and two beautiful daughters who you can see in some of Nailil’s posts. Nailil shares topics ranging from fashion and food to traveling and parenting. Every August, I count on Nailil’s wonderful back to school posts where she shares some of the best places to shop for school clothing and other supplies.
I also really appreciate Nailil’s classic minimalist style. She reminds me often that I don’t always have to go over the top with my sartorial creations. And she creates her brilliantly stylish outfits on a real life budget that is totally relatable. Additionally, her passion and enthusiasm for blogging and sharing her own journey to inspire others is admirable to the utmost degree. She is kind and caring and genuinely authentic which are qualities that seem harder and harder to come by these days. I am so very grateful to have discovered Nailil’s blog and have made her acquaintance in this giant land of blogging.
If you do not already follow Nailil, you can find her on Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, and Bloglovin’. Nailil also hosts a weekly fashion link party, Trendy Thursday Link Up, so be sure to stop by Thirty Minus One every Thursday and join the party!
Do you have a foolproof summer outfit combination that you rely on for those days when you don’t feel like thinking? What styles are inspiring you this summer?
Keeping it on the edge,
