Inspired by Style Nudge: Camouflage, Denim, and Red

My obsession with camouflage dates back to some time in the early 1980’s when one of my oldest sister’s friends crafted her own prom dress out of this military designed pattern. There was something fascinating to me about the paradox between a print that is associated with combat, war, and soldiers combined with something so feminine and romantic such as a prom gown. And for 30 years, I have been searching fruitlessly for a dress like hers. Despite never finding what I was looking for, my adoration for camo print partnered with things of a more feminine nature continues from my childhood well into midlife.

When I saw Cherie of Style Nudge showcase a tiered camouflage skirt this past summer in her post Au Courant On Camo, those old camo butterflies began fluttering around my heart again.

Cherie of Style Nudge

I realized that my wardrobe was lacking in camouflage pieces. I don’t know why this is, but I am working on a remedy (a.k.a. shopping for more camouflage pieces). When I saw this camo jacket from Zaful, I knew that I wanted to create a similar pairing as Cherie with faded denim and red but also with an element of romance and femininity.

Another style paradox that really catches my fancy is distressed boyfriend jeans paired with killer heels. It’s sassy, it’s sexy, it’s fun, and it’s unexpected. Cherie often wears a similar pairing as well.  She has one enviable shoe collection, for sure.  (Check out her Shoe and Tell Link Up every Monday).  And her denim is always spot on, too!  (Head over and visit this post.  And this one.  And this one.)  I just happened to have these red suede pumps calling from my closet to be worn with edgy patterned socks. Paired with my newest distressed boyfriend jeans, my red hat from DSW, and my little black tee (similar here), I sort of flipped Cherie’s outfit upside down!

Now back to my search for the most feminine and elegant of wardrobe pieces in camouflage! And a huge thank you to Cherie for inspiring me!

Have you ever searched for 30 years for something you remember fondly from childhood?  Or am I just total weirdo?! By the way, who has inspired you lately?  I would love to hear from you.

Keeping it on the edge,

Shelbee
