Inspired by Pumps and Push Ups: Coral Gingham Top & Link Up On the Edge #146
Happy Thursday everyone! The Memorial Day weekend is almost here and it is a big one for celebrating at our house. First of all, as a military family we do like to recognize the holiday that honors our fallen heroes. And secondly, both my husband’s and my birthdays fall right around the Memorial Day weekend. His birthday is on Sunday and mine is a week from today. Because we have so many May birthdays in our family, we have always had a huge celebration on this weekend every year since we met nearly 11 years ago.
But this post is not about the upcoming weekend. It is about the inspiration for my outfit. Today’s look was inspired by Brooke of Pumps and Push Ups. She shared a post back in early April, Gingham Fashion Finds for Spring 2019, featuring an adorable coral gingham top. It reminded me of a similar one I had buried somewhere deep in the dark corners of my closet room. And since I just cleaned out my closet room, I was able to locate said shirt and create my own version of Brooke’s outfit.
Here’s the fun thing about finding outfit inspiration from other bloggers. Brooke and I have completely different styles. And completely different body types! Brooke stands at 4’10” and focuses the fashion piece of her blog on petite styles, sharing lots of great tips for petite women on where to shop and how to style certain pieces and trends for petite frames. I stand at 5’8”, nearly a foot tall than dear Brooke, but could still see myself wearing a similar outfit to her coral gingham top, skinny jeans, and nude pumps. Just more proof that we all can wear whatever we please at any age and at any body type!
While Brooke and I have different body types and different styles, we also have a lot in common. We are both mommas of 2 young boys and wives of manly men who have embraced their role as Instagram husbands, taking our photos and supporting our little spaces in blogland. We also both have a deep love for gingham! If you don’t know Brooke, you can read more about her here. She shares so many great ideas not only about petite fashion, but about life in general…recipes, mom hacks, DIY projects, and all things lifestyle related. Plus she always shares the most genuine smile in all of her posts that brightens my day when I hop on over to read what’s going on at Pumps and Push Ups!
So whether you are petite or tall, a boy mom, a girl mom, or not even a mom, I highly recommend following Brooke’s life adventures for all sorts of inspiration! I guarantee you will find something that will inspire you.
And now my outfit…my coral gingham print is a bit smaller than Brooke’s, but the color is spot on. I couldn’t find my super dark wash skinny jeans when I created this outfit, so I went with the darkest ones I could find in the mess that was my closet! I didn’t own nude pumps at all until a few weeks ago when I visited my local Payless just 6 days before it would be closing its doors forever and I found these Christian Siriano pumps for $3 (they were 90% off). I also grabbed them in black which you can see here on Monday for this month’s Fab 40’s post (it’s a super fun theme, so be sure not to miss it)! And since northern New York is just still so cold in May, I added an old floral bomber jacket from Target. Not only was the extra layer necessary, but it also kept my look from being an exact copycat of Brooke’s outfit.
Speaking of copy cat looks, have you seen Jacqui’s new Copy Cat series at Mummabstylish? Jacqui does a series of posts called Style Steal which is similar to my Inspired By series, but she has added a little twist! She is now also featuring other bloggers who do copy cat outfits and she has featured my copy cat look of Jennie’s overalls from A Pocketful of Polka Dots in her very first post in the Copy Cat series! Check it out here and find details on how you can also be featured. Thanks so much, Jacqui, for the feature!
And big thanks to Brooke as well for inspiring today’s outfit and for being an all around awesome blogging pal! I appreciate all you do and admire your work at Pumps and Push Ups! Keep shining bright, my friend.
Who is inspiring you lately? Do let me know in the comments!
And now I am adding my link up to this post because I never got the chance to write a new post! Here are your featured favorites from last week.
Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood shared her post, Thursday Moda #167: Black Coffee with Milky Cream. I am loving this easy cool outfit in neutrals with a splash of red. Perfect for this time of year!
Jill of Doused in Pink shared her post, Easy Outfit Formula: Sundress with Sneakers. Another perfect Spring outfit! I am totally on board with dresses and sneakers this season. Cute and comfortable!

You look so pretty! That coral top is so cute— gingham is so feminine to me! Loving the style inspo — copy cat looks are so fun. More variations on what you like!
I have a pair of patent leather nude pumps, but I hardly ever get a chance to actually wear them. So sexy and they elongate your legs.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thank you, Becky! I do love gingham so much. I have been wanting something in red gingham for a while now…I need to make that happen this summer, I think. Red gingham with cowgirl boots would be perfect! Have a wonderful weekend, my friend. And get those nude pumps on!

You look stunning in this outfit. Great job on adding the nude pumps. You look so tall in this outfit. Thanks for joining the Top of the World Style linkup party.

Thank you so much, Nicole! These heels are probably about 4 inches which would make me 6 feet tall wearing them! Ha. Have a great weekend.

Lise
You look fabulous in these jeans! Any history to the old house in the last pics? Looks so interesting.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Lise! So the background is a church on Main Street in Adams Center, NY. The church is off to the right of me. Behind me in most of the pictures is the shed/barn behind the church that looks like it is used for storage. And the house appears to be the rectory for the church but it has tons of fire damage and it seems to have been abandoned for quite some time. We drive past this location on our way to our favorite diner and my husband thought it would make a cool background for photos. And I agree! I love the way these pictures came out! I hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Your inspired by is such a great series! Gingham is one of my favorite spring prints and I love how you took Brooke’s sweet look and made it your own! So cute styled with the floral bomber! Those pumps are really pretty and such a steal! Have a wonderful long weekend!

Thank you so much, Jill! I love doing this series. It is so much to take the inspiration from someone else and create my own look from it. But it is even more fun to surprise my blogger friends with a unexpected feature! I think that is the very best part of it all. And I am so loving these $3 pumps! Have a great weekend!

Jean | Delightful Repast
Shelbee, you look adorable! Coral gingham goes beautifully with denim. (I’m 5-8, too!) I haven’t bought any new clothes in the several months (maybe longer, time really flies for me) I’ve been following your blog, but I do believe I’m having more fun with my clothes now! I’m #19 in the links today with my post, which is a “something different” cake AND a very generous Rishi giveaway.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Jean, thanks so much! You know, I always hated being this tall until a few years ago. Now I embrace my height and wear heels all the time! I am trying to curb my clothing spending some…but I generally fail when I try that. We will see! This “something different” cake sounds interesting! I can’t wait to go check it out. Thanks for linking up and have a fabulous weekend!

What I want to know about is that interesting location you chose! An old estate? Farm?
Have a great weekend!
xxox
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Anne! It is actually an old rectory and the shed/barn behind a church in Adams Center, NY. The rectory has lots of fire damage but the shed looks like it is still used for church storage. It is right near our favorite diner and we drive past it whenever we go to eat there. It was my husband’s idea to take photos there. It is very cool. There is also a water tower right there but I didn’t get a great picture with it in the background. Have a great weekend, my friend.

You are the bestest!
BTW, we’ll be in Oneida County 6/17-19. Old Forge one of those, not sure which yet.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
My husband will be gone so I won’t have anyone to keep my kids! And I have to work the 18th and the 19th. But maybe on the 17th, I will keep the kids out of school and take a road trip with them! Let me know where you will be that day!
Anne M Bray
Will try for that as our Old Forge day. Will find out if the museum is open for the “educational” factor. 😉

Sounds great! Thank you!

What a great floral bomber jacket Shelbee! And I love that you styled it with jeans and nude pumps. Very classy my friend!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thank you so much, Chrissy! I do love the contrast of jeans with killer heels! I just never have anywhere to wear killer heels where I can stay in them all day long. So they go on for photos then I usually change into more practical shoes. I guess that’s blogging life!
