Inspired by Nancy’s Fashion Style: What to Wear to Winter Parties
This post was inspired by my very dear friend, Dutch fashion blogger Nancy Baten of Nancy’s Fashion Style. If you are regular reader here, then surely you are familiar with Nancy as well. Nancy and I both began our blogs around the same time in 2015 and we became fast friends from across the world. Three years ago, we decided to join together and created a series, The Bad Buy Book, where readers were invited to join us in sharing bad buy items in their wardrobes. After one year of that series, we expanded it to also include good buys and that is when The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book was born. We just celebrated three years of our collaborative efforts in February with copy cat looks of each other. My outfit today was shared on Nancy’s blog for our anniversary celebration, but I loved it so much that I wanted to give it an entire dedicated post.
But before I get to all the outfit stuff, I want to share a bit about Nancy. And with Saturday being International Women’s Day, a day to recognize inspiring women in our lives, this is the perfect time to talk about Nancy. I am so inspired by her with every post she writes, not just because she has an incredible sense of a style and a passion for all things fashion that rivals my own, but she is seriously one of the strongest women I have ever known. Nancy was born with a hereditary lung disease that has been slowly progressing throughout her 50 plus years of life. But you would never know it if she wasn’t so open about it. Because she literally does not let this slow her down. She doesn’t allow it to negate her enjoyment of all the things she loves whether it be creating fabulously stylish outfits, dining out with her sweetheart Gerben, or attending music concerts and festivals. She embraces every moment of life and lives it without hesitation or regret. I so admire that in her.
Nancy is also one of the most vibrant and energetic women in all of blogland, always ready and willing to collaborate with other bloggers. She is also so kind in offering her support and assistance in any way she can. She is dedicated and diligent in her craft of blogging, keeping communication open and honest and raw and real. Oh, and she has an incredible sense of humor, always on the ready with a bit of sarcasm to throw into the mix. I don’t know if her witty sarcasm comes through so much in her blog posts, but I communicate with Nancy frequently via email and I have to tell you, this woman completely cracks me up. All the damn time. She is funny, y’all! Really, really funny.
When I meet person who not only inspires me on multiple levels, but can make me laugh along the way, I want that person to be in my circle. And I am so honored to count Nancy as one of my tribe. She just amazes me. I cannot say much more than that, other than she definitely deserves super hero status as an empowering, inspiring woman. So for this International Women’s Day, I really just wanted to recognize this incredible woman and let her know just how grateful and blessed I am to be able to call her my friend.
Now onto the outfit…as much as I freaking adore Nancy’s style, we definitely do not share very many wardrobe items in common. I find this kind of funny actually because we both are avid fans of The Cure, we both went through that punk phase in the 80’s and 90’s, and we both have a strong affinity for all black outfits. Yet, when I tried to copy one of Nancy’s outfits, I really had to search to find something that I could recreate from things that I already owned.
And then I found this all black outfit (naturally) that she shared back in a November post, December Parties, What to Wear-Match Made in Seven. I love the mix of textures and prints to create a super interesting monochromatic black look, so I went digging in my closet to see what I could find that would be an adequate representation of Nancy’s pieces.
I was super excited when I found the fluffy burgundy brooch buried in my jewelry box. It totally reminded me of the one Nancy has on her waistband plus my skirt is a tad too big so it was functional for pinning the waistband so my skirt didn’t fall off. And this is how my copy cat look of Nancy was created. How did I do?
If you don’t already follow Nancy’s journey, you can find her on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Bloglovin’, and YouTube.
Which women will you be celebrating this month?
Keeping it on the edge,
Shelbee

Oh my god oh my god, I am crying now, but I can’t because the domestic help is on my doorstep in 10 minutes! How in the hell do I explain that I am crying in front of the laptop! No one, I say no one ever in my entire life said so many fantastic things about me! Wow, I am overblown.
The fun thing is, and this is not the first time something like this happen to us, I have a post scheduled with that kimono outfit! Because I actually liked it when we were taking photos for our anniversary! But now I am going to adjust it a bit……haha
Thanks love, I so appreciate this, I can’t tell you. I wished I could hug you! Love you!

Aw, Nancy, I am sorry that I made you cry but you totally deserve all the good and wonderful words and I meant every single one of them from the bottom of my heart! I suppose you explain that your tears are good tears, right? And now I am super excited to see your post with pictures of your amazing kimono outfit. I was so flattered that you wore your hair pigtails and you looked so damn adorable, too! Love you, my friend!

Thanks so much, Michelle! I was just realizing last night that I may be honest to a fault. Is there such a thing as too honest? Maybe that’s a blog post of its own! I hope you are having a great week, my friend.
