Inspired by Living on Cloud Nine: Plaid Blazer and Pink Furry Coat
Today’s outfit is not a recreation of another outfit, but rather it is a truly inspired concoction built from statement pieces styled by the fabulous Andrea of Living on Cloud Nine. I have been completely awed by Andrea’s sense of style since the very beginning of my blogging days. She is one of the over 40 bloggers whom I discovered in 2015 when my husband was deployed and I was looking for an online community of stylish women my age. I would be up late into the night after the children went to bed, so very lonely, and I would scour the internet for women just like Andrea. Many of these women I still follow today and some have even become very dear blogging friends. Others have stopped blogging or have switched avenues in the influencer world thereby falling off my radar. But the really special ones, I still keep near and dear to my heart as they inspire me every single day with their style, their creativity, their kindness, and their contagious joy.
Andrea’s enthusiasm for all things in life is truly inspiring. She finds beauty in the daily things that many of us may find mundane. She shares some of the most scrumptious recipes (I am certain I have pinned enough to fill a cookbook). She is a mom of boys, like me, and it gives me hope to see that she has survived the childhood years and has successfully sent them off to college no worse for the wear. And she always looks absolutely fantastic! It is no wonder that she was voted “Best Dressed, Class of ’89”!
So let me get on to how Andrea has inspired my outfit. Being a blogger and a shopaholic, it is so easy to fall victim to buying all the pretty things that we see our blogging friends wear. It takes a great amount of self restraint to not click on the shopping links provided in every outfit post I read. I think in my four plus years of blogging, I have only done this twice…purchased the exact same thing that I saw another blogger wearing. The first time was nearly two years ago when Rachel of Pink Sole showcased the most beautiful green silky kimono I have ever seen. I literally did not hesitate. I clicked on the Forever 21 link, hit “add to cart”, and made that gorgeous piece of clothing mine.
And the second time it happened was just a few short weeks ago. Andrea styled this super fun menswear inspired blazer in her post, Not For Men Blazer. She had recently purchased it from Kohl’s and I did resist the temptation at first. But then a few days after seeing Andrea’s post, I received an email notification of Kohl’s Friends and Family 20% off everything sale. Well, okay then. That was like the universe trying to tell me something. And I could resist no longer. Shamefully, I succumbed to the temptation and headed off to Kohl’s on a whim to see if they had my size in store.
At first, I couldn’t find it anywhere. After making about four separate trips into the fitting room with various piles of other goodies, I was about to give up. And then hanging there on a random rack where it did not belong was this blazer. I had walked past this same rack at least three times and it wasn’t there previously. Now suddenly it appeared just at the moment I was going to call it a day. And there was just one blazer hanging there. It was as if fate, disguised in pretty pink plaid, was tempting me. I held my breath and very pessimistically checked the size. What do you know, it was my size! Now if that’s not a sign that this blazer was supposed to belong to me, then I don’t understand signs very well.
Initially I had planned to style the blazer in a similar way to Andrea’s combination of skinny jeans and over the knee boots. But I didn’t want to be an exact replica of her look. I wanted to show a different way to style a menswear inspired blazer. So I opted for a black dress, tan fishnet tights, and strappy block heeled Mary Janes. Living in the frigid North Country, I needed a coat and my pink furry one was the perfect match. Plus it reminded me of Andrea’s new Pink Peach furry coat and the combination of blazer and coat made for the perfect “inspired by Andrea” outfit.
I added my pink beret as an afterthought. And then, as I was making my blogging rounds this week, I saw that Andrea shared another amazing outfit where she is rocking a red beret. So while I had already taken photos of this outfit, the beret seemed to unknowingly cap off the whole thing in true Andrea-fashion…plaid blazer, pink furry coat, and a beret.
Do you give in the shopping temptations when you see perfectly styled outfits on bloggers? What pieces have you been unable to resist?
Keeping it on the edge,
Shelbee

I love it!! I haven’t had great self control about not clicking on links and purchasing items but usually though I try to see what I have to recreate an outfit because it is much better on my wallet. My shopping goal for 2020 is to try to limit most of my shopping to dresses and skirts especially for the cooler months.

Thank you, Mireille! If I do get the urge to shop, I have been trying to stick to second hand shopping as well. It’s way cheaper and better for the environment. But we all have our weaknesses, don’t we? Mine is clearly shopping! I wish you much luck with you shopping goals in 2020.

Shelbee you look great! I LOVE Pink. This is such a fun outfit with the pink and plaid. I noticed that pastel colors get more repins on Pinterest than warm colors. It’s good to see you. I’ve been out of the blogosphere loop working for Stitch Fix, but I’m BACK! Do you still do a link-up party on Thursday’s? xx-Shannon

Shannon, thanks so much! Wow, it is good to see you back at it! What a cool job to work for Stitch Fix. That is right up your alley! It’s weird because I am very drawn to pastels and winter whites right now myself and I do usually like the richer, deeper colors. I do still host two link ups every week…on Tuesdays and Fridays. And also I co-host a monthly link up on the third Thursday of every month. I would love for you to join us! Welcome back!

Great outfit!! I love that blazer on you— I’m a big fan of blazers in general tho!!! Your legs look killer, too!!! I bought the exact same necklace from Free People I saw another blogger wear once— about 7 years ago now, and I have zero regrets!!! I absolutely love it to this day!

Thanks so much, Becky! I know that kimono I bought is my absolute favorite ever! It is fun to have those stories behind the purchases, too.

Love love your coat! I have a pink boden coat I love wearing, I do love the teddy coats though. I love your beret too! I have a pink one, my only one. Great inspiration too! I love plaid and that jacket is fab on you! I have a plaid jacket I will style after Christmas. It was fate that you received a coupon to shop, the blazer was meant to be. Pink is just such a great color on you.
Happy Sunday!
