Inspired by Fine Whatever: Would You, Could You? Double Denim & Ruana
Why yes, I can, Rena, my friend! I would, I could, and I absolutely should…wear double denim with a ruana. Except I call it a kimono. But who really knows what the proper term is for these lovely toppers we wear anyway? In fact, I was so bewildered by all the different topper styles that I dedicated an entire blog post to The Great Topper Confusion. Kimonos, ruanas, ponchos, and shawls. I love them all the same no matter what they are called.
Now that I have made my love for topper pieces quite clear, shall we discuss double denim. Oh, hold on, I dedicated an entire post to The Canadian Tuxedo as well. When it’s done properly, a denim on denim outfit is quite fashion forward.
But combine the two trends…double denim and a boho topper…into one outfit, like my friend Rena of Fine Whatever did in her post, Would You, Could You?: Double Denim & Ruana, and you have the coolest combination of badass boho babe. And that is a style genre that I can most certainly embody. Badass Boho Babe.
Speaking of Rena…do y’all know her? If you don’t, let me introduce her and give a little background. Rena was one of the very first bloggers I ever met in real life. Way back in December of 2016…wow that feels like a really long time ago…I ventured to Los Angeles to see Anne M. Bray’s Fashion Rainbow art exhibit. Rena was kind enough to escort me all around the L.A. area while I was there. We went shopping, we ate great food, we did all sorts of amazing things. And we have been great friends ever since then.
Rena has been a great source of inspiration to me as she has overcome many challenges with grace and elegance. She has the attitude of a survivor and stays true to herself through whatever life throws her way. Always positive, always ready to encourage and support others, always stepping out in style. These are the things that make me so grateful to include Rena in my list of amazing blogger friends.
Rena is also part of my quarterly collaboration, The Magnificent 8, where 8 fashion bloggers spanning from ages 20-80 share our unique interpretations on a chosen style theme. As Rena is quickly approaching her retirement years, I am so excited to see which direction she heads with her blog, Fine Whatever. I am certain she will continue inspiring women of all ages.
You can find Rena on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Bloglovin’.
Who has been inspiring you lately?

The kimona is very flattering on you. Sadly, because I am so short they look, well, a bit tragic on me. Ok what’s inspiring me at the moment? Our New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Adern. A true leader and humanitarian. We are so proud of her. Everyone in the country is being looked after thanks to her.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thank you, Ratnamurti! Have you tried a short kimono that hits right at the waist? I wonder if that would work on a petite frame. And I love that you have such a wonderful and caring Prime Minister! Stay safe and healthy!

I want to live where you live! It looks so very pretty. Also, the Canadian tuxedo is brilliant and you do it so very well! Denim is what I live in, that is of course when I am not rocking the whole yoga look like I have been this last month with a lot of nowhere going on these days. Definitely unprecedented times!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Jen! I live in a very rural area in Northern New York and there are definitely a lot of beautiful outdoor spots perfect for outdoor photos. But then it also a very run down and kind of depressing place, too. I guess it is all in the perspective though. So I search for the beauty! Time for me to rediscover the beauty in my leggings outfits, too! Haha. I have been in leggings, sweatpants, or jammies nearly every day!
