How to Style a Spring Dress in the Bitter Cold & Link Up On the Edge #87
This is my final post for my collaboration with EvaTrends and I have been waiting to share this dress because it has just been too darn cold to photograph a lightweight Spring dress. But it had to be done. So I put it on, layered it up, snapped some photos, and nearly froze to death.
*This is a sponsored post. This dress was provided to me for purposes of this blog post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
*Dress: Swan Print A-Line Dress c/o EvaTrends.
The dress is super cute and flowy and will be perfect for a warm day due to its loose fit and lightweight fabric. It came with a belt in the matching fabric which I tied around my neck instead and added a coral beaded necklace. A cozy cardigan was necessary because it was about 20 degrees outside when we photographed this outfit.
*Cardigan: Old Navy (Similar here).
I kept the look mostly monochromatic in navy blues with touches of white and coral in the print and my accessories.
A giant blanket scarf was also a definite requirement due to the biting chill in the air. I know I have completely covered up the dress that I am supposed to be showcasing, but what is a blogger to do when you choose a Spring dress in the Spring but the Spring weather refuses to show up?
*Booties: Mix No. 6 from DSW. (Similar here, here, and here).
I tried to add layers under the dress to better show off the whimsical swan print, but that was just turning out bad. Really bad. So layers on top was how I had to go about it. It is a really comfortable dress and I am looking forward to wearing it again in warmer weather with bare arms and legs and some cute sandals. But until the warmer weather decides to arrive, I will keep sharing lots of layered looks with you.
In a nutshell, how I style a Spring dress in the bitter cold is with lots and lots of layers! I just wish I had put my gloves on for the photoshoot because now I have chapped knuckles. What are some of your tricks for wearing your Spring pieces before the sunshine decides to arrive?
You can see how I styled my other EvaTrends pieces here and here.
And now the featured favorites from last week.
Maria of Passionfruit, Paws and Peonies shared a really great post, Lifestyle and Fashion Bloggers for Women Over 50. This is a wonderfully comprehensive roundup of empowering and stylish women who inspire us all through their blogs. I see lots of my good blogging friends on this list! Thanks so much for putting this together, Maria! You are quite the inspiration yourself.
Chrissy of Granola and Grace shared her post, In Case You Missed It: Style and Sweets Wrap Up, where she shows us cute outfits, delicious cupcakes, and talks about her passions. It is always so nice to get these little peaks into the lives of our blogger friends. Head on over and give it a read, but be prepared to smile, laugh, and cry. Thank you, Chrissy, for sharing a part of your life with all of us. Oh, what love, indeed!
And Rachael of Threads for Thomas shared her post, My Skincare Routine. It seems we all like to read about new skincare products that are working for others. I know as I am heading full speed ahead into midlife, I always appreciate an introduction to skincare products than can keep my skin hydrated and looking younger. So thank you, Rachael, for sharing what works for you!

Kellyann, thank you so much for thinking I am a hero for braving the cold! It was so, so cold and the wind was going right through this thin little dress! But I managed. Just another day in the life of a blogger! Have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

Shelbee, you’re my blogging hero. For one, to get out there and freeze in the name of the blog, two, it takes a whole lot of creativity to layer well and you do just that – guess you’re getting plenty of practice and lastly you’re always encouraging other women. I think you could make rock feel good about itself. 😉 Thank you for the sweet feature. It made my morning for sure. By the way, I love this dress! It’s so whimsical and I had to do a double take to see how you tied the belt into a scarf. Even with all the layers, I can still see the cute dress…oh and now I am reminded that I need more color options for my tights…black, grey and brown aren’t cutting it anymore! This is exactly how I live through the chilly parts of spring…layers.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Chrissy, you are so sweet! And I think I could make rock feel good about itself! Ha. Coming soon…my next outfit photos are with some beautiful rocks! You are such a doll and I am so glad to have had the opportunity to become your friend! And I agree…time to up your tights game! There are so many fun ones out there! Have the most wonderful weekend.

Michele, thanks so much! I am beat! Plus I have a terrible head cold setting in that is really knocking me down. I think when my husband gets home, I may just go sleep for a day! Ha. Have a wonderful weekend.

As a fellow cold weather climate girl, I so appreciate the dedication to your craft that this shoot required! Love the swan print. Hang in there, Spring must be on it’s way soon!

Thanks so much, Elizabeth! It does take a certain amount of dedication, for sure, to transition into Spring clothing long before Spring arrives…in the name of blogging! Today, I am cozied up in velvet and boots. Have a fabulous weekend, my friend.

It’s such a cute dress that shouldn’t always be covered up!! I was just talking with a friend, that she could layer a turtleneck or even just a long underwear shirt under her summery dresses to make them work for the colder weather!!!
Have a wonderful weekend, Shelbee!!

Jodie, thanks so much! I started with layers underneath and it just wasn’t working for me! Although I have some cute Spring and Summer dresses where that totally works. So that is a great suggestion for transitioning our wardrobes! Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Thank you, Lorena! Some days I don’t want to get dressed and leave the house…but it’s the only way to get the kids to school so I can have some peace! Ha. Have a great weekend, my friend.

Respectfully saying, I know that you are waiting to wear it with “bare legs and some cute sandals” but I think it looks great with on you with the sweater, tights and the mini-boots. Anyway, thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful weekend.

Such a pretty dress, Shelbee! I like how you tied the belt around your neck. I always ditch the fabric belt that comes with a dress and replace it with a different one with more structure, haha. I can’t wait to see how you style it for spring (if it ever arrives)!

Roxanne, thanks so much! I tried belting it with a more structured belt, too, and it just wasn’t working for me. Maybe when I can ditch all the layers, it might! Have a great weekend.

I admire your tenacity and follow through on commitments Shelbee. You carried off every one of these photos as if it was about 50 degrees minimum! The dress is really fun and I think you accessorized and layered beautifully. I sincerely hope you won’t have to bear the chill too much longer!!

Jude, thanks so much! I just checked the weather forecast which is indicating temperatures in the 40’s and maybe hitting 50 next week, but back to 30’s and snow by the weekend. Again. More snow. Will it never end?! I suppose if I didn’t get dressed and take photos in the cold and snow, my blog would shut down for about 9 months out of the year! I hope you have a great weekend, my friend.

I agree, a blanket scarf will keep you warm in the thinnest material and coldest temps. Good call!

Thanks so much, Rania! While I am quite tired of Winter and cold weather, I have to admit that I am going to be a little bit sad to retire my blanket scarves for the Spring and Summer!
