Hidden Facebook Gems & Link Up On the Edge #165
I think I recently mentioned that I had stumbled upon some old poetry and creative writing pieces buried deep in the archives of my Facebook page. There is this place where things get lost and hidden in Facebook land if you don’t know exactly where to look.
If you go to your “About” page and then scroll all the way to the bottom, past your friends and photos, videos, and check-ins. Next you will come to all of your favorite sports teams, music, movies, books, and television shows. You know way back in the beginning of Facebook when you tagged all these things so people could get to know you better.
Keep scrolling even past there, you will see apps and games that you tagged as favorites (I tagged one and I don’t even know what it is). Next it will show you all of the Facebook pages that you like or follow, then any events you are interested in attending, followed by reviews you’ve written and groups you’ ve joined.
Now is your hand sufficiently cramped up from all the scrolling? When keep going anyway…because it just past the cramping of your scroll hand where the Facebook gems are hidden. When you reach the very bottom of your Facebook “About” page, there you will find it…a section entitled simply “Notes.”
I don’t even know what this section is for or where these notes appear when you type them. I don’t have any idea how to edit them or delete them either. The first one I posted was in February of 2009 and the last one I posted was in May of 2011. So this was a short-lived thing on Facebook. But as we have always been forewarned…beware that anything you put on the internet will remain forever…coming back to haunt and torture you later. Or in my case, give me the giggles and a feeling of luck in my discovery of some silly hidden treasure from a million years ago.
So I found this little piece that I called “Ponderings” and I think I may have been stoned when I wrote it. You’ll see what I mean when you read it.
Ponderings
how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop?
July 2008
how the fuck should i know.
i don’t even like tootsie roll pops.
why do we say, “til death do us part”
when we know we will part long before that?
and if we really believe that bullshit…
death can be arranged, can’t it?
why do we say, “only the good die young”
when i am still alive
and i just keep getting older?
why do airplanes have flotation devices under all of the seats?
can’t they just make the whole damn airplane a flotation device?
wouldn’t that be more efficient?
luck be a lady?
i’m a lady.
i have no luck.
why do farts smell?
so the hearing impaired can enjoy them too.
what does it mean, you’re only as old as you feel?
then i must be 104.
why do we say someone is so fat they have their own zip code?
is anyone really that fat?
and if they were, would the post office really assign them a zip code?
how does a diaphragm work?
what the hell is a diaphragm anyway?
i don’t even know what a diaphragm looks like.
what does it do?
and a douche?
who ever came up with that?
but whatever,
it’s a really fucking funny thing to call someone.
“you’re a douche.”
“you’re a fucking douchebag.”
funny, right? and kinda gross.
why are farts funny?
because they just are.
they just are.
they really just are.
and shit is even funnier.
why don’t really stinky people smell their own odor?
i can smell my odor when i stink.
i can smell it when someone else really stinks too.
that’s fucking gross.
what would you do for a klondike bar?
i wouldn’t do very much.
it’s a freaking two dollar ice cream.
just pay the two dollars.
why would you do something crazy?
yoohoo.
yoohoo.
yoohoo.
I actually have no idea really if I was high when I wrote this, but I have written things after indulging myself in a bit of the good ole peace pipe. Those writings are usually much more illiterate than this. I usually end up getting only every third or fourth word from my brain onto the page and nothing makes any sense. So who knows? Anyway, I hope you have enjoyed my nonsensical ponderings.
And now your featured favorites from last week.
Katie of Hello Katie Girl really caught my eye in this gorgeous bright green jumpsuit in her post, Louis Vuitton X. Basically everything she wears catches my eye! Her clothing always reflects her very bright and cheerful personality. Anyway, go check out her post. It’s super cute with a really funny story and you can’t NOT smile!
Donna of Donna Does Dresses is a woman after my own vintage loving, secondhand promoting, colored tights obsessed heart with her teal dress and moto jacket outfit in her post, Feeling a Bit Blue…Recycle, Reuse, Reduce… Yeah, Donna is pretty awesome! Go check her out.
Ashley of Le Stylo Rouge is another blogger who continues to wow me with her outfits every week. Her Ruffled Midi Skirt + Blush Sweater with Kindred Shops is like the epitome of the best Fall street style ever. I wish I could pull off this look!
Rachael of Threads for Thomas has left me completely charmed with her Snake Print Skirt and moto jacket combination. I could never pull off these muted shades, but my word, Rachael looks simply amazing!
And Patrick of Adventures in Weseland shared his post, Chase Center Block Party. It is the giant Connect 4 board that really caught my attention as my 6 year old, Ralphie, is currently obsessed with this game. Of course, I showed Ralphie this image and he begged me to get a giant Connect 4 board for him! Where does one get such a thing?
Keeping it on the edge,
Shelbee

I also like the “Interview” gem that you posted on Medium. You are finding golden nuggets in your archives.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Ha, thanks! I really did find some golden nuggets buried in there! It is cracking me up. Usually I hate old stuff that I have written, but these are some real gems! So I am just using it up while I am waiting for my inspiration and my muse to return. Have the most wonderful weekend!

Very sophisticated look! How do you keep white boots clean though?
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thank you, Alice! Oh they aren’t that clean! But they are fake leather so I just wipe them down with a wet cloth if they get dirty. Easy peasy! Have a great weekend.

Your musings made me giggle, Shelbee. I’ve never put any of my crazy thoughts online. You are a wonderful and brave lady! And love, love, love the black and white print dress paired with the pale pink duster. The boots and hat complete the look beautifully.
Cheers!

Theresa, thanks so much! I am so glad that I gave you a good laugh. I was a little hesitant putting this level of my craziness out there. But then I figured I keep preaching about being authentically yourself, and this is as about as authentically weird as I get, so why not just share it! I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Love that dress with the white boots. I’ve been wondering whether to get some. They do look lovely with a pretty dress.

shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Alison! I have 4 different pairs of white booties and they are quite versatile. This pair and a shorter pair with brown wooden heels are probably the ones I wear the most. I also have a pair of white patent ones and a shorter pair with a kitten heel. Those I don’t wear as often, but they all serve a purpose in my closet!

Ha, thanks, Cheryl! I am glad I could give you a chuckle! Seriously, who would do something crazy for an ice cream bar?! They are super messy, too, if you don’t eat them quick enough. And if you try to eat them too fast, you get brain freeze. It’s a losing situation…these Klondike bars!

Shelbee, I’m guessing you can get that game at Amazon cause they have everything!! It blows my mind that every time I think, I wonder if Amazon has it, they do!!! Lol! Anyway, your poem sounds pretty clear as to your feelings that day! I love the way your mind works, my friend! Your outfit really works with the white tights and boots and the hat as accessories! Cutist!
Happy weekend,
xx Darlene

Darlene, thanks so much! You know, I had thought of Amazon but didn’t check. Now I have checked and there are a whole bunch of different giant Connect 4 yard boards! This may be what the child gets for Christmas this year!
And thanks for the lovely compliments on my silly writing and my outfit. Much appreciated, my friend! Have a fabulous weekend!

Ah yes…I’m inspired to write a poem entitled, “Ode to a “modern Victorian” styled lady, standing on a giant boulder” .
I think sometimes we NEED to go to our most “human equalizers” and that can result in musings about farts, body odor and diaphragms. Stoned or not we go there to remind ourselves of our shared gross commonalities…
Gotta take time to catch up on your Medium works!!!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Ah, Jude, you always give me a great belly laugh as I check in on my blog comments over my morning coffee! Thank you so much for that! I have encountered way too many people in life who cannot/will not discuss bodily functions and all the other gross commonalities that we do all share. And frankly, in my opinion, farts are always funny! And the more inappropriate the situation where a fart may slip out, the funnier it is. I do love to discuss all the topics that make people uncomfortable. I am not sure what my driving force is, but I am compelled to do so.
I have been starting to sort of cross share on Medium as well. So there are some things on there that are also on my blog in one format or another. I figure it is the best way to broaden my reach at this point. By the way, I am really enjoying Medium as my writing forum. I have tripled my income from month 1 to month 2 (not that it is a large income, but if it continues growing in that direction, it could be quite lucrative). So THANK YOU for pushing me to get writing on Medium!
I hope you have the most wonderful weekend! And if you do write an ode of any sort, I would love to read it!

shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Kathrine! I struggled a little with what to layer on top of this dress. It was a bit too chilly to be sleeveless. But I do love how the pink coordinated with the navy and white. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I genuinely enjoyed your ponderings! I ought to read them again when I indulge in my nightly edible. I’d like to say the edible is for fun, but actually it is the best pain relief for my fibromyalgia. Nonetheless, I’m okay with any giggles that may result from being stoned.
Cute outfit too!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Michelle, thanks so much! You are too funny! My nightly indulgence is for anxiety so I can turn off all of these insane ponderings and get some decent sleep. And these days, even with my herbal sleep remedy, sleep is still difficult to attain in the midst of this menopausal nightmare! But giggles are always welcomed around here as well! Have a wonderful and blissful weekend!

Brooke of Passport Couture
Reading old posts on Facebook is hilarious! It makes me think about why I thought what I wrote mattered. In one post, I wrote about toilet paper not flushing down the toilet. What compelled me to do so? It made me laugh when I read it.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Brooke, thanks so much for reading and commenting! I am always hesitant to read old stuff that I wrote for fear I will be completely embarrassed at myself. I was hesitant about sharing this one because it is so ridiculous. But then I figured we all need a good laugh every now and then…might as well be at my expense! I hope you are enjoying your weekend!

I’m always embarrassed too, but it’s like you said, we all need to have a good laugh now and then. I also think it’s good not to take ourselves so seriously! 😉

I absolutely agree, Brooke! Laughter is a daily necessity. And we definitely should not always take ourselves too seriously.
