Gypsy Vardos by Various Wagon Artists | Style Imitating Art
You all know how much fun I have with Style Imitating Art challenges so I am super excited to share my next pick to inspire anyone who wants to join us. I have been getting extra creative in my closet because of this series and it really is very rewarding to unleash my style muse and see what she creates!
About Style Imitating Art
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Terri of Meadow Tree Style, and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as presenter, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the presenter by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the presenter will share all of the submissions on her blog.
You don’t have to be a blogger to join either! In fact, you don’t even have to join but you can still use the art to inspire an outfit just for the sake of trying something different. If you want to share your inspired outfit, we invite you do so on Instagram or any other social media platform that you prefer. Just be sure to tag Salazar, Terri, and Shelbee or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!
This Week’s Presenter
That would be this girl. My choice this week was inspired by my recent living room makeover. I painted my fireplace and accent wall in a color called Gypsy Teal and it set me on a gypsy path looking for all sorts of bohemian home decor ideas inspired by Romani travelers. On my gypsy path, I learned about their vardos, the horse drawn wagons that traveling people used as their homes, and I found an abundance of creativity for both home decor and personal style in the intricate designs and creative details of these carriages…both exterior and interior. To put it simply, these wagons are stunning.

The Interiors
For this challenge, you are welcome to use any vardo design that appeals to you as inspiration. Or you can focus on the overall bohemian style of gypsy wagon art as a whole. I am going to focus mostly on the green wagon in the cover image as my own personal inspiration. I have the perfect thing for it! (Psst…it’s from Kantha Bae.) Also, you aren’t limited to the images I shared here. Feel free to do your own research for your perfect wagon inspiration! Here are a few articles to get you started…
- The Gypsy Vardo
- Vardo: The Opulent Caravans of The Gypsies
- Caravans of Color: The Intricate Vardo Wagons of Britain’s Romani People
- Gordon Boswell Romany Museum

Wow! I would love to vacation in one of those! They are gorgeous, but I have absolutely no idea what I’m going to do. I need to set the brain to percolating now!

Oh, can you imagine cruising down some back country roads in one of these wagons? So fun! I am thinking you probably can’t go wrong with some Kantha Bae for this one! I am looking forward to seeing what y’all create.
