Empowered By Color: The Color Green

This post is for my dear blogging friend, Suzy Turner, the one person on earth whom I know loves the color green as much as I do. Perhaps it is because we both have green eyes that fuels our passion for this color. Perhaps it is because we both see the world as a place full of possibilities and astonishing beauty that draws us to this most common hue found in nature. But whatever the reason, Suzy shares my adoration of all things green. We have both agreed that if we see something in green, especially in the sartorial world, we must have it.

Suzy Turner in Various Shades of Green

Recently, as I was searching through old photos of mine for something green to share in the April Edition of The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, it dawned me just how much green I actually wear. I mean it has always been my favorite color, but it is hard to come by in the world of fashion. And if I spot something in any shade of green, I usually bring it home with me. To keep it short and to the point, I wear a lot of green, my friends. Like a whole lot.

My Favorite Green Kimono and Green Velvet Boots

“The Color Green:

Green is the color of balance,
harmony and growth.”

-This and all following quotes were taken from Empowered by Color

Vintage Inspired Green Dresses

“The color green relates to balance and harmony. From a color psychology perspective, it is the great balancer of the heart and the emotions, creating equilibrium between the head and the heart.”

“From a meaning of colors perspective, green is also the color of growth, the color of spring, of renewal and rebirth. It renews and restores depleted energy. It is the sanctuary away from the stresses of modern living, restoring us back to a sense of well being. This is why there is so much of this relaxing color on the earth, and why we need to keep it that way.”

More Green Dresses

“Green is an emotionally positive color, giving us the ability to love and nurture ourselves and others unconditionally. A natural peacemaker, it must avoid the tendency to become a martyr.”

“It loves to observe, and therefore relates to the counselor, the good listener, the social worker. It loves to contribute to society. It is the charity worker, the good parent and the helpful neighbor.”

And Suzy seems to wear green just as often I do!

I also love olive green and camouflage in shades of olive.

“Being a combination of yellow and blue, green encompasses the mental clarity and optimism of yellow with the emotional calm and insight of blue, inspiring hope and a generosity of spirit not available from other colors.”

“This is a color that has a strong sense of right or wrong, inviting good judgment. It sees both sides of the equation, weighs them up, and then usually takes the moral stand in making appropriate decisions. On the negative side, it can be judgmental and over-cautious.”

“Green promotes a love of nature, and a love of family, friends, pets and the home. It is the color of the garden lover, the home lover and the good host.”

Suzy also rocks out in shades of bright green and olive.

I also am drawn to green sweaters and green pants and any print that has green including plaid.

“It is generous and loves to share, but it also looks for recognition. It is friendly and can keep confidences. This color relates to stability and endurance, giving us persistence and the strength to cope with adversity.”

“Green is the color of prosperity and abundance, of finance and material wealth. It relates to the business world, to real estate and property. Prosperity gives a feeling of safety to green.”

Green isn’t a colour I wear often, and don’t have many garments in the wardrobe. I have just been sent a lovely pale green long cardigan (duster) which I can’t wait to style, I just need to buy something to go with it, lol. I love all your choices, and yes green suits you. I will have to see if it empowers me Hun. Hope you’ll join me on #chicandstylish #linkup today Jacqui Mummabstylish

I have to admit that green used to be my favorite color—until yellow took over a couple of years ago!! But especially that bright kelly green is so lovely and happy!!
Here in Colorado, most things “green” are pot related now…it’s a totally different connotation…LOL!!

Hahaha, Jodie! I just laughed out loud at this comment! And yellow is so fabulous on you, too. I, on the other hand, cannot really pull off yellows…anywhere near my face at least. Colorado has definitely gone all green! Thanks for stopping by and have a fantastic day!

Tell me about the tatoo on your upper right arm!
Green eyes are lovely and I’m glad that you share a passion for green with Suzy!
I love the shot of you in front of the pine tree wearing the green ” winter scene” skirt. SO cute!!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Thanks so much, Jude! That winter scene dress was my Christmas dress this past holiday season! It was so much fun to style and I did wear it a few times during the holidays. So my tattoo is called my library fairy. Have you ever seen the movie What Dreams May Come with Robin Williams? There is a scene where he is trying to find his kids and his wife in the after life. He finds his daughter and she is not his daughter but a beautiful young Asian woman. When she identifies herself to him, she explains that in your own personal heaven you get to be whatever you want to be, that you essentially create your own heaven. She goes on to explain that he had always expressed a fondness for and said how beautiful Asian women are…so in her heaven she wanted to be the ideal of her father’s. And that is what she became in the after life. So playing on that…if I could create my own personal heaven, I would be a wise and ancient old fairy living in stacks of dusty old books with all the stories ever told right at my fingertips. And that is my tattoo…a tattered old fairy with ripped wings floating around in a pile of old books!

Shelbee, this is absolutely wonderful! THANK YOU so much for featuring me in such a fabulous post – I really do think you look stunning in green, and you’re right, I think it must be because of our green eyes that started off this whole obsession lol. I’m super envious (!) of all your green outfits – those dresses are freaking gorgeous!!! As are the green booties! This has made me want to go shopping right now to look for more green to add to my closet. Because clearly, I don’t have enough lol.
THANK YOU so much, Shelbee. You really are the best!!
HUGE hugs, and have a wonderful weekend,

Suzy, this was so fun to put together and I had so much fun stalking through your blog photos looking for all your green stuff! That green velvet dress though from the Fab 40’s post is my absolute favorite ever! Actually, now that I think of it, I picked up a green velvet dress on clearance recently but have not had the opportunity to wear it yet. Maybe an Inspired By post will come out of that one! Thanks so much for being an awesome friend and sharing my weird obsession with all things green!

The story of your tatoo really touches my heart Shelbee.
You know those really GIANT, fluffy, fat snowflakes that sometimes fall?? In Minnesota they’re especially common in very early Spring. When I was around 4/ 5 yrs. old my mom would point out the window at those flakes and encourage me to look at them very closely. She’d say, “Do you see them?! Look! There’s one!!” She told me to look for the fairies riding on the largest flakes.
I still look for fairies every time those large flakes appear. Fairies have remained special in all ways for my entire life. Old tatered ones… Oh, I get that. LOVELY!!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Aw, Jude, I love your story about snowflakes and tattered fairies, too! That is so special and heart-warming. Isn’t it funny how those things stay with us for a lifetime? I have a special place in my heart for shooting stars because the night my father passed away while I stayed at the hospital with him, both of my sisters had headed home in opposite directions…one traveling west and one going east. He passed shortly after they had left. When I called them both to let them know, they each said the same thing to me, quoting the exact time of his death, that they knew he had gone because they saw a shooting star at that exact moment and knew it was him. Ever since then (over 23 years ago) whenever I see a shooting star, I believe it is my dad waving hello…and for some strange reason, I see a lot of shooting stars. Thank you so much for sharing your special snowflake story with me!
