Dress Like a Millionaire & Your Own Twist Link Up #32
It is time once again for Your Own Twist with Monica of Jersey Girl, Texan Heart, except Monica is still not quite up to posting yet. But worry not, I have been communicating with her via email and she is doing fine. She’ll be back to regularly scheduled posting fairly soon, I think. In the meantime, do continue sending her lots of positive energy! And now let’s get to this incredibly stupid theme that I have chosen for this month.
About Your Own Twist
Your Own Twist is a monthly link party hosted by Monica of Jersey Girl, Texan Heart and me on the third Thursday of every month with the goal of inspiring some of our friends to get creative with personal style.
The idea behind this collaboration is to take one common piece or theme and style it our own way with our own twist…Monica and I have both taken a lot of fashion inspiration from one another over the past few years even though we have totally different styles. It is always fun to see how we can interpret similar items in unique ways or what kind of twist we will each bring to the chosen theme.
We will let you know the themes well in advance in the event that you would like to use the theme for your own post and add it to the link party. However, any fashion posts are welcome regardless of whether you used the theme or not. Check out the graphic below which has some of our upcoming style prompts.
Okay, so now you might be wondering why I chose this theme and why I think it’s really stupid.
I chose it because today is Be a Millionaire Day. I like to check out the lists of silly holidays that are designated each month so I can keep these style prompts interesting and fun. Otherwise, we end up with the same old thing over and over again. And that’s not very fun. For me, at least. I am definitely a “variety is the spice of life” kind of woman.
According to a website called Holiday Insights, Be a Millionaire Day is always celebrated on May 20, but there is no evidence to be found indicating where, when, why, or how this silly holiday came to exist.
But what is it about anyway? Well, it is a day of the year when you can review your banking records, your investment portfolios, or simply revise your budgeting strategies in an effort to increase your personal financial wealth. And if you already have all that stuff in order, you can celebrate Be a Millionaire Day by purchasing a lottery ticket!
Maybe you are already a millionaire. Then today would the perfect day to think about ways to get to billionaire status! According to Credit Suisse’s global wealth report, there are approximately 46.8 million millionaires in the world today, but there are only 2,755 billionaires worldwide. So you 46.8 million millionaires have some work to do!
For the rest of us who are not near the millionaire mark, current projections state that 1,700 new millionaires are made every day in the United States alone. By the way, I am not one of any of these groups that I have mentioned!
But that’s okay. Because I do believe that I am one of the wealthiest human beings on earth. My life is abundant with love and joy. My modest home overflows with beautiful energy and wonderful family and amazing friends. I have my health, my sanity (most of the time), a roof over my head, and nutritious food on my table. I want for nothing. I need for nothing. And I am completely fulfilled to the point of overflow.
These are the reasons that I think this theme is rather dumb. When it came time to brainstorm an outfit, I realized that millionaires and billionaires and even trillionaires most likely all dress the same…meaning, they wear whatever the hell they want. Just like me!
“It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.”
Mahatma Gandhi
“True wealth is not of the pocket, but of the heart and of the mind.”
Kevin Gates
I chose this particular outfit for two reasons…I am dressed like me, myself, the richest woman in the world (and my entire outfit was definitely less than $100). And I am representing some of my favorite millionaires of all time…Mr. Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead.
Random financial fact about Jerry Garcia: At the time of his death on August 9, 1995, he had an estimated net worth of $15 million (which calculates to nearly $26 million when adjusted for inflation today). But guess what? None of that money much matters when you’re dead! And I would rather live…abundantly and joyfully and undefined by things like money and possessions.
I leave you with this quote to celebrate today…
“All I ask is for a chance to prove that money doesn’t buy happiness.”
Unknown
By the way, I had that chance many years ago and I absolutely proved that money cannot buy happiness. In fact, sometimes too much money has the power to bring a whole lot of unhappiness.

Such fun bright orange pants! I love the graphic tee with them, and the matching earrings! I agree money can’t buy happiness 🙂 I haven’t heard of millionaire day but my kids did celebrate world bee day today at school! Sadly none of the flowers we planted have bloomed yet for the bees but the ones at school have 🙂
Thanks for the link up 🙂
Hope you are having a good week 🙂

Thanks so much, Mica! Bee day sounds like it would be a really fun style prompt, too! I will have to keep that in mind for next May! What a bummer that the flowers have not bloomed yet, but they will and there will be bees galore. Speaking of bees, there was a giant queen bee of some variety stalking my front porch roof yesterday and it was making me a little nervous. I don’t want any hives on my porch! I hope you are having a wonderful week!

Such a fun challenge! I like why you consider yourself a millionaire. I consider myself a millionaire because I am part of the kingdom of God and someday I will live in a mansion in heaven!

Thanks so much, Amy! I love your perspective on being a millionaire as well!

Thank you, Ellie! This outfit was definitely one of my most cheerful ones recently. I am finding that I am drawn to super bright colors, especially orange, of late. It is not a color I wear often or well, but I recently bought these pants, an orange blazer, a orange polka dot dress, and an orange floral dress. I need to get those pieces on the blog soon. I am orange obsessed!

I think I would interpret it as still my usual funky style, but in really luxe fabrics and good jewelry. I’m sharing a lovely dress I nearly gave away, plus some yellow to cheer me up.
Thanks so much for the link parties, Shelbee!

Interesting facts! Well, I am glad I am not a millionaire! While having money does not always mean having problems, I think too much money can cause a lot of problems. I have noticed how the more money one has the more money one spends! And money doesn’t fix everything either. So I am grateful for where we are financially in life and yes to dressing like you a millionaire!

Yes, yes, yes, Mireille! That is exactly where I am with my attitude towards money. Plus, like I said in the post, I am already the richest woman in the world! Money doesn’t have anything on me! I hope you have a fantastic weekend, my friend.

First off, I love this outfit! Jerry Garcia was so talented. And I’m very partial to outfits sporting orange.
I’ve often thought that if you live for the accumulation of wealth, what an unsatisfactory that would be. Reasearch shows that most people do not gain any further happiness once their basic needs are comfortably met – somewhere around $75,000 / year for a family of four.
Most billionaires puzzle me. I feel like I understand Elon Musk. He uses his wealth to invent new stuff – electric cars, expanding the use of space, helping the people of Flint, Michigan with the water situation, etc. Then we have Jeff Bezos who just bought himself a 414 foot yacht. Why? Why doesn’t he improve the life the workers who made him so obscenely rich? To me, he is a leech on society.
Ah well…, this went off on a tangent.

Thanks so much, Michelle! And I don’t think it was really a tangent since I was discussing that money never did buy me any happiness and I have seen how awful too much money can make people. Living to accumulate financial wealth has always been a strange idea to me. But if I were to come into exorbitant amounts of money, I certainly hope that I would do good things with the cash flow. I definitely would not buy a 414 foot yacht! But I might consider buying a spaceship! Lol I hope you had a wonderful weekend!
