Discovering Blue with DressLily & Link Up On the Edge #45

Green is my self-professed forever favorite color of all time. My eyes are a very pale shade of green and my mother always dressed me in green tones because they accentuated the color of my eyes. As a result, I have always loved green. I am always drawn to all shades of green in art, in clothing, in accessories, in nature. But for some reason, my closet is overwhelmed with the color blue, not green. So I was curious as to why this “contradiction” exists.

One reason for sure is the limited availability of green apparel and accessories in the market. Even though Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2017 is Greenery, there still is not an abundance of the color in stores. Next time you are out shopping or even shopping online, pay close attention to the colors that dominant the scene. I think you will see blue, and lots of it in a variety of shades and hues, all around you. But why?

I discovered some fun facts about the color blue. These are from Color Matters which is a website dedicated entirely to discussions about the vitally important role that colors play in our world from how they can sway our thinking, change our actions, and cause reactions. Blue is the universally declared favorite color of most people. Of all the national flags in the world, 53% of them contain the color blue. Blue is also the most commonly used color in corporate logos. Even I chose shades of blue for my own website and logo without even thinking…despite the fact that green is my favorite color.

Blue clearly holds quite a bit of power as its darker shades signify trust, dignity, intelligence, and authority. Brighter shades of blue convey cleanliness, strength, and dependability. Lighter blues symbolize peace, serenity, and spirituality. Blue is such a prominent color in nature that it demands our attention and draws us to it naturally. One of the reasons I was drawn immediately to the color of this printed maxi dress from DressLily.

I scoured DressLily for a new red dress (I have been wanting a red dress for quite some time). I also kept my eyes on alert for a pretty green one. But I was drawn over and over again to this deep cobalt blue and the lovely leaf print that cascades over the rich background. I finally succumbed to the natural urge to go for the blue dress. I love the way it pops against the other colors in nature all around me…the green of the grass, the brights in the flowers, even the haze in the air. So although green is my favorite color of all time, it seems that blue draws me in just as much. What’s your favorite color?
