Cleaning Up My Makeup Mess with Joligrace

*This is a sponsored post. I was gifted this makeup case in exchange for a review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

People often say to me in real life and in blog comments, “I don’t know how you do it all with two young kids at home, running a blog with daily posting, managing social media, nurturing both virtual and real life relationships and friendships, and keeping your house in order.” Well, let me make this clear, I don’t do it all. My husband does a ton to keep the house in order. Much more than I do, in fact. If it weren’t for his efforts at home, our house would be completely overrun and buried in kid stuff! He does not, and will not, however, maintain my own personal mess! Nor do I expect him to. Even in light of the fact that I fail at maintaining my own mess. For instance, my closet room is a total disaster and the major clean up required inside those four walls is such a daunting task to me that it merely looms heavy in the air while I do my best to ignore the problem!

Another example of my own personal mess that I have been deficient in its upkeep is my makeup case. Have a look at this disaster…

You can see that I still am using my Saranghae 5 Step Skin Care Routine.

The makeup bag is clearly too small to contain all my beauty needs. It is all just shoved haphazardly into this fabric case that I have had for ages. I don’t think the bag itself has ever seen the inside of a washing machine either, so you can imagine all the crud that has accumulated at the bottom. And what a sight it is when I am packing to travel…you should see me trying to get the dang thing zippered! So when Joligrace reached out to me to try one of their makeup cases, I jumped on the opportunity. This would be just the incentive I need to organize at least one small portion of my colossal mess!

You all know how in love I am with the concept of love. So naturally, I fell for the Brown Love Print Professional Makeup Train Case. When it arrived, I was very pleased with the size, the multitude of storage compartments for adequate organization, and of course, its super adorable appearance.

I suppose I should have cleaned that mirror while I was cleaning up the make up mess!

I quickly set to work emptying all the contents of my old makeup bag. Oh, it was kind of gross. Loose Q-tips caked in powdery makeup, hair ties covered in dust, barrettes that had gone missing years ago, eyeliner caps that have long since lost their corresponding pencils, pencil shavings that never quite made it into a trash can, and a few dozen strands of my hair entangled in it all. I laid everything out and threw out the old and broken up stuff, shook the gunk from the bottom, and threw the whole thing in the washing machine…twice.

Eyeshadows, blushes, foundations, and powders.
Eyeliners, mascaras, and travel sized Q-tips. (Hopefully, these Q-tips will remain inside the travel case!)
Lipliners, lipsticks, and lip glosses.

Then I set out to efficiently organize my makeup products based on category.

I was afraid the case may not close, so I was pleasantly surprised when it did! I managed to get everything inside my new Joligrace Makeup Train Case.

Now when I travel, I can just grab my cute case and go without trying to jam everything in or separate out the bare necessities into a smaller bag. In fact, I will be making a short trip to Pennsylvania next week and can’t wait to show off my new train case!

*Necklace: Queen Bitter Gold Large Link Chain and Gold LOVE Pendant Necklace.

Joligrace makeup train cases come in a variety of different and equally adorable prints and patterns or solid colors, too. I also love the Beige Love Print Professional Makeup Train Case. I opted for the brown thinking it may hide any makeup residue accumulation better than the paler color. The Purple Floral Print Train Case and the Brown Owl Print Train Case are really stinking cute, too! If my makeup collection grows any more, I may need a second case!

If you are need of a stylish way to organize your makeup mayhem, you can find Joligrace on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.

Tell me…am I the only one who has accumulated so many makeup products that I require multiple cases to store them? How do you organize your beauty products?

Cleaning it up on the edge,

Jodie, it really is a cool case! I am totally digging it. I try to purge my makeup, too, but I fail miserably. There are some lipsticks in there that might be a decade old! That’s kind of gross and I don’t even think I wear them because it’s gross. But I like the colors so I keep them for some reason. Who knows? I am a hoarder and I guess I need to just admit that to myself!

That is the cutest make up case! I LOVE it – pun intended, lol. Make up can get so messy, I use a clear tackle/sewing box from Wal-mart. It holds everything so well!

Ha, thanks, Kellyann! Great pun! And tackle boxes are wonderful for storage of all kinds! I used to use them for sewing and crafting things and we have used them for Legos as well (until we accumulated too many Legos and now they are stored in a giant plastic baby pool)!

Now that holds some makeup! I too have a bag that I keep jamming more stuff into and a haphazard set-up for the overflow in my closet! Right now, I’m doing a major makeup use up and plan to get back to the basics. Do you think I will? Probably not. Anyway, Your train case looks amazing!

Nina, thanks so much! I have those same big makeup goals (among other clean out goals) which I will probably not ever get to either! At least I am not alone in goal planning and recognizing where I will most likely fail! Have a great weekend, my friend.

Jewelry! Hah! I have a lovely jewelry armoire, where you can hang earrings, necklaces, and it even has a spot for rings. Guess where my jewelry is? All over the bathroom counter and on my bureau, that’s where.

Your vivid description of your makeup bag made me laugh, as I recognized my grody old makeup bag (s). I don’t even want to see what’s in the bottom of mine. I do have one of those makeup boxes, which I used to take on trips. Not nearly as cute as yours, as mine is made of purple plastic. Now, it’s covered in cobwebs upstairs in my bedroom, since my makeup lives in front of the bathroom mirror (in a variety of disgusting makeup bags) where the light is better.

I adore your makeup box. And your outfit too.

Susan, I am glad you liked my description! I was cracking up when I wrote it. It is was totally grody! I have a huge jewelry armoire…like the kind that classifies as furniture…not just the little ones that sit on the dresser top. And it is still a disaster! Plus I have two of the spinning jewelry racks that sit on top of the dresser and the jewelry armoire…because you know, I have a hoarding problem of sorts! But I am glad I am not the only one with gross makeup bags!

    Hi Shelbee!
    How are you?😘
Due to a problem in my computer I have been off internet for about 2 weeks and I am trying to keep up with the news, but that´s enough! Now it´s time for some fun blogging, hehe

¨Have a look at this disaster¨: although I see NO disaster, I looove the organizer case! I actually thought it was a unique purse when I saw the first photo! Such a great idea, I don´t know how I hadn´t thought about it before myself! There was a time, when younger, when I even had three of these bag cases. Then, when burglars entered in our house 3 years ago and stole absolutely EVERYTHING we owned, I lost my cosmetic bags as well..so now I only have like a lipstick and a blush so no need for an organizer! But, it would have been useful for many many years to have one 👌

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Oh my goodness, Helen! Two weeks without internet! While that would frustrate me completely, it was probably nice to be totally unplugged for a while!

I probably do have enough makeup to fill 3 large cases as well….I didn’t show it all! I have another old one about this size that is stuffed full plus various random items shoved in drawers and baskets and in my purse, too. I cannot believe that burglars took even your makeup cases and all of your cosmetics! Who wants used cosmetics anyway? That is kind of gross! But now you are a makeup minimalist and that may not be such a bad thing either. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your makeup story! It was really great to hear from you, my friend!

This is such a great storage idea and I love that you can just close it up and take it on the go! The print is so cute too! I have so many sample sizes that need to be organized! Right now they are thrown in a drawer.

Jill, thanks so much! I really do love this case and it so easy to just close and go…for car trips. Traveling by plane I would probably still just use a tiny little bag with necessities. And I still have all kinds of stuff in drawers, too. Ugh. It never ends! Too much stuff. I hope you are having a wonderful summer, my friend!

What a lovely makeup box Shelbbe, it looks lovely. Great for keeping everything together nice and tidy away 🙂 Thanks for sharing at Welcome To The #Weekendbloghop

You had to remind me of what a makeup slob I am. No matter how organized I try to be, it doesn’t stay that way for long. I’m ashamed! Truly ashamed.
But your hair looks so fabulous longer–you need to do a hair post because you just look so adorable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Cathe, you are too funny! I am a total slob all around and my makeup will definitely not stay this organized for very long, I suspect! Thanks for the compliment on my hair. I am really loving it longer these days. Low pigtails are my jam! What kind of hair post should I do?

Its a fabulous way to get organised Michelle!
Believe it or not I only have one drawer for make up. I know the more space I assign to it, the worst it will get!
