Best Hair Extensions and Styles for Travel

Let’s face it—we don’t hop on a plane or embark on a long car drive and expect our hair to be looking its best when we arrive at our final destination. Hair and travel just never seem to mix well. Between rubbing against the seat as you try and get comfortable to the dry air that comes from planes, it can often feel like you’re fighting a losing battle.

Fortunately hair extensions can help you look your best even after a long day of travel. Below are some of the best hair extension recommendations as well as hair styles for travel so you can arrive at your final destination looking more polished than ever before.

Preparing For Travel

The ZALA hair extensions were made with travelers in mind. In just a few steps, you can pop them into your hair before you begin your travels with the assurance that you will arrive at your destination with your hair looking as luscious as ever.

Whether you opt for clip hair extensions or tape extensions, you would affix them to your hair as you normally would on any non-travel day. You want to make sure they are fitted comfortably from the start of the day so you know that they are good for a full day of travel. Keep reading for a list of the top four hairstyles to help you feel gorgeous and put together as you make your way to your destination in style.

1. French Braid

The versatile French braid is always a winner for travel days. You can get every piece of your hair up and out of the way in one go including your newly added hair extensions. French braids are comfortable for travel because you can rest your head against the back of your seat without the discomfort of hair ties and clips jabbing you in the back of the head.

A helpful hair hint for this up-do while traveling: Keep the braid as tight as possible when you first style your hair in the morning. Normally it helps to loosen the braid for a more natural, flowing look. But your hair will continue to loosen all on its own during the day, leaving you looking perfectly relaxed with beautiful locks when you arrive at your final destination.

2. Top Knot

When you are short on time which seems to happen often on travel days, the top knot is one of the easiest hair styles to manage. Once you have attached your hair extensions, you can just toss your hair into a bun on the top of your head and you’re ready to go. One great thing about a top knot is that it keeps your hair out of your face and out of your way all day long. No getting your hair caught under the straps of your carry on bag and no big hair bulges on the back of your head making it uncomfortable to rest against your seat.

A top knot also lends itself to that easy casual vibe that many of us want on travel days. Pull your hair up tight into the bun and allow it to loosen naturally throughout the day so that you have the perfect messy bun look when you arrive at your travel destination.

3. Low Pigtails or Double Plaits

Is there anything sweeter than pigtails or plaits hanging from the side of your head? Of course not. It’s a very trendy look that is suitable for any woman as she embarks on her travels. Low pigtails or braids are super easy to style as well. Just keep your hair low and part it in the middle at the back of your head. You can either secure each pigtail with a hair tie or braid the pigtails first and then secure the ends with a hair tie. This style also leaves the back of your head free from any bulges that would make rest during travel uncomfortable. Low pigtails also look really great under a baseball cap or any other style of hat that you may prefer for traveling.

A helpful hair hint for low plaited pigtails while traveling: When you arrive at your destination, you can undo the braids and lightly run a brush through your hair to create the perfect beachy waves.

4. Double Buns

If low braids or pigtails are not your thing, you may consider double buns. Similar to a top knot, double buns are meant to sit high on your head which also keeps your hair out of the way and comfortable for traveling. Begin styling double buns in the same way as low pigtails or braids by parting your hair in the middle from the top of your head down the back. Then secure two separate buns at the top of your head. Allow them to loosen naturally during travel and you will arrive sporting a sophisticated but easy style.

Sit Back and Enjoy Your Travels!

With these hair style tips enhanced with a set of quality hair extensions, you will be able to travel comfortably without sacrificing style and good hair. So the next time you have a travel day on your agenda, why not try one of these fun hairstyles.

As I head off to a bluegrass festival next weekend, I am definitely going to sport one of these styles for comfortable travel and maximum enjoyment.

Ooh thanks for sharing, Nancy! I usually wear low pigtails or braids when I travel. But I am starting to wear a top knot more frequently lately. It is very comfortable! I hope you get to travel again soon, my friend.

Thanks, Shauna! I usually end up with low pigtails or braids because I can hide underneath a hat with my hair that way. But I tend to switch it up throughout the day changing from a low side ponytail to a high top knot and back again.

This is the post from the link up that caught my attention!
The partner is bringing me to NC next month and hopefully to Mexico in January … I need to be thinking about such things 😉 =D

My hair is medium lengthed right now so I’ve been often sporting low double pigtales, but when my hair is long I LOVE double buns <3

Oh yay, Renee! I am glad that this post caught your eye! I love the look of double buns but have never really tried it. Although I do high pigtails sometimes so it should be easy enough to pull off. Maybe I will try it this weekend for our festival travels! Regardless of how you style your hair for traveling though, I totally look forward to hearing about your upcoming trips, my friend! How exciting is that!
