At the Cornerstone Eatery & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #89
There is a new eatery in town and it is the most splendid addition to downtown Watertown with its menu of light, healthy, fresh lunch fare, its warm and welcoming ambience, and the ever so charming staff who greet every patron with a smile and an entire day’s worth of enthusiasm.
The aptly christened Cornerstone Eatery opened its doors this summer on the corner of Franklin Street and Public Square where the humdrum ole Subway was once located. I have driven through Public Square about a million times and never was I once tempted to go grab lunch from that Subway. In the wake of its recent closing, some brilliant foodies decided to take action and created this little nook of deliciousness in the very heart of downtown. And isn’t there an old saying that goes, “The kitchen is the heart of the home”? Well, I do believe that the Cornerstone Eatery is well on its way to becoming the heart of downtown Watertown.
It is quaint and filled with natural sunlight beaming through the window lined front wall that overlooks Public Square. When you step inside during the lunch rush, you are met with the buzzing of jubilant diners as they engage in friendly conversation over exquisite lunch creations. Every salad, soup, and sandwich is crafted from the freshest ingredients…you can almost feel your insides dancing with joy at the level of healthiness that you are consuming.
The daily soups are quite literally to die for…worth every penny paid for the heavenly experience that your palette will undergo…you will find yourself wanting to lick the bowl. I have eaten at the Cornerstone three times already and have tried multiple daily soups. Um…the Crab Bisque…it really might be better than sex.
The Falafel Salad is out of this world with its compelling combination of chickpea fritters over a bed of the freshest romain topped with tomatoes, cucumbers, roasted red peppers, and a generous mound of quinoa prepared to perfection. Served with a feta vinaigrette, this salad takes you on a culinary tour that merges Greek and Middle Eastern cuisine into one extraordinarily gratifying dish.
The Shrimp Po Boy is crafted on a grilled baguette, layered with fresh baby greens and tomato which is delicately coated in the most scrumptious remoulade I have ever tasted. Then it is topped with five perfectly grilled and seasoned blackened shrimp and the sweetest pickled red onion for an impeccable contrast that will leave your belly full but your mouth wanting more.
If the ethnic ingredients that appear so abundantly on the Cornerstone menu seem a bit intimidating to the tentative eater, the chicken salad wrap is an absolute must try. My husband is also a fan of the Pulled Pork Sandwich and the Beef Tenderloin Po Boy. While I was afraid I would lose a finger if I attempted to taste any of his sandwiches, I did manage to pilfer a few bites of the homemade coleslaw from him. I don’t even like coleslaw…and the Cornerstone coleslaw is good, y’all. Like really, really good.
If you are local to the Watertown, New York area or just passing through, I highly recommend you make a stop for lunch at the Cornerstone Eatery. You will leave this dining establishment not just with a completely satisfied appetite, but with an extra bounce in your step just from all the happiness that fills the walls of this little corner lunch stop.

I love Greek and Middle Eastern food so that salad’s calling my name. I’m a big fan of soup too… so happy to be heading back into soup and stew season.

You’ve reminded me that there’s a tiny deli here in bustling downtown Warren, Maine that I have yet to patronize. So great to give our dollars to local businesses!

Yay, Michele…I am glad to have dropped a little reminder. I do hope you go that little deli soon and spread some kindness while supporting a locally owned small business! Thanks so much for stopping by today and sharing!

Thank you, Jodie! I need to be more diligent about dining at locally owned eateries. I tend to go to the chains when I take my kids out and I’m not sure why. But now that I am aware of this weird little quirk of mine, I will fix it!

I would have to go to Cornerstone just to admire the building and the gorgeous public square! What a pretty downtown area! I like the look of the menu too. We have a “cornerstone” triangular building in my town too, and it’s also a lunch place. It used to be stellar, but it’s gone downhill, which is really too bad. It started to go downhill after the seniors stopped going, because the owner wouldn’t honor their coupons. His loss, and I can tell he is feeling it. Don’t anger the seniors, they have long memories!
You look awesome, Shelbee.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thank you, Susan! I can totally picture your quaint little downtown cornerstone building, too. And yes, we should keep the seniors happy. After all, they have paved the road for us to build our little local businesses. We were just talking today about how beautiful our downtown area is but there is still so much more to be done to really revitalize it and take it to the next level. I am hoping for big things in this little town.

Great review, Shelbee! I love a local diner. So often they have such cute ambiance and good food, that we do ourselves an injustice if we don’t stop in once in a while. My hubby and I found a tea shop about 30 minutes from where we live, that serves the best selection of teas, and typical British faire like Shepherds Pie, and meat pie as well as amazing, melt in your mouth scones. – Amy

shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Amy! That tea shop sounds amazing! I would totally drive the 30 minutes every once and again to visit it. The one thing we do not have in our downtown area is a coffee/tea shop that is open during the early morning hours. Although, I understand there is one amazing woman who specializes in teas who is cooking some ideas for that! Have a fantastic day!

We had lunch there yesterday, after parting with some precious items at the Solitary Consignment shop, and getting a very promising recommendation from the lady herself “Shelbee”.
And her promise held true! Absolutely delightful lunch, and company! Tracey and I bumped in to two fabulous friends, and they joined us for lunch. We all had something different, and we ALL we completely pleased!
I had the Holiday salad, Tracey had the Garden salad, Cherie had the Crab bisque, and Robin had a different soup, not sure of the name, but it had curry in it! Coffee was excellent. Atomosphere was supreme. Staff was enjoyable and happy. It was a win win for all of us!!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Lee Ann! Thank you so much for stopping by my little blog and commenting! That makes me so happy! I am so glad that you all enjoyed the Cornerstone! But I am currently cursing that beautiful handmade mohair coat that you brought in…as it hangs there on the rack taunting my very soul! I tried it on and I fell even more in love with it! I show it to every customer who walks through the door in the hopes that someone will purchase it so I am no longer compelled to! I do not need another coat. I do not need another coat! But I may end up with that beautiful coat. I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

In my humble opinion, you wouldn’t have been at Solitary Consignment unless this coat was meant for you!
