Assorted Wood Carvings by Giles Newman | Style Imitating Art

I am so ready for this next challenge featuring a selection of intricate and beautiful wood carvings selected by Salazar.

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, and Marsha of Marsha in the Middle. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as presenter, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the presenter by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the presenter will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join either! In fact, you don’t even have to join but you can still use the art to inspire an outfit just for the sake of trying something different. If you want to share your inspired outfit, we invite you do so on Instagram or any other social media platform that you prefer. Just be sure to tag SalazarShelbee, or Marsha or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

This Week’s Presenter

Salazar chose the wood sculptures/carvings of Giles Newman, a British artist who specializes in hand-carved pieces using naturally fallen wood. His works are amazing in their intricacies and delicateness, and Salazar says she would buy every single one of them if she could afford it. After scrolling through his body of work, I agree with Salazar. I would buy it all, too, if I could!

For this challenge, Salazar has decided not to choose a specific piece but rather to use his entire collection of work as the inspiration. All of Newman’s artwork is made from wood and most of it is inspired by nature which creates many different avenues for interpretation into style.

You can find more works for inspiration on Pinterest or on Newman’s website.

I am definitely going to build my outfit from the ground up, starting with my new cowgirl boots that I just bought last week in West Virginia. Aren’t they perfect for this challenge?

If you are feeling inspired to create your own outfit inspired by Giles Newman’s wood carvings and you want to be featured in Salazar’s review post on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, please be sure to submit your photos to 14shadesofgreyblog@gmail.com by 10:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday, March 12, 2024.

Happy styling!
