Another Plaid Dress with Another Halftee

The Halftee featured in this post was provided to me for purposes of this review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

Do you remember the gray plaid dress I wore to the pumpkin patch about a week and a half ago with a black Halftee? Well, just in case you don’t remember, let me quickly refresh you about this wonderful layering option in women’s fashion. Halftee is a product that was created by Wyoming native, Amanda Barker, in an effort to reduce the bulk of layered clothing while maintaining a put together look with all the essential layering qualities like cute necklines peeking out from beneath dresses and tops. Halftees fit with the perfect amount of snugness to keep things smooth and in place underneath your clothes.  No bunching, no scrunching, no tugging or pulling to straighten things out. Perfectly in place, perfectly comfortable.

I had the opportunity to try two different Halftees of my choosing and I have to say that I am a very happy girl. I love the lightweight fabric combined with only half coverage to keep me cool during those ever so frequent heat flashes that perimenopause likes to send my way. I also am a big fan of a sleeve to help with absorption from the very distressing sweats that come along with said heat flashes. And these heat flashes all too often arrive in very close proximity to shivering cold flashes. So the bit of extra coverage provided by a layering piece is super helpful in both instances. If that makes sense…but not much makes sense when it comes to menopausal symptoms, in my opinion. Not much at all. But regardless of the paradoxical affects of erratic hormone fluctuations, these Halftees really are a fabulous addition to any woman’s wardrobe.

One of the really cool things about Halftees is that every style in the collection (there are over two dozen different styles each in a variety of colors) is reversible, giving you two different neckline choices with each Halftee. You can choose from sleeveless, short sleeve, half sleeve, 3/4 sleeve, and long sleeve. There are also solids, stripes, and florals as well as lacy ones and turtlenecks. Halftee even offers a selection of full length layering pieces in the event that you do want that extra coverage, you know, for the bitter cold flashes.

Now can I talk about my new plaid dress?  You all know I have thing for plaid. I have been featuring it frequently on the blog and have a few more plaid outfits coming soon. There is just something about plaid that screams fall and winter to me. Whether it is a dress, a skirt, pants, a coat, boots, or a scarf, I find that I have been wearing something plaid almost every single day lately. But it wasn’t just the plaid on this dress that caught my eye, it was the shades of blue and burgundy that really drew me in. Perfect for fall set against the autumnal hues of northern New York’s beautifully colored foliage, this combination just made me happy, to put it simply.

And always being one who likes to play around with different print combinations, I am starting to find plaid to be quite a fantastic neutral for pattern mixing. Plaid with leopard, plaid with camouflage, plaid with stripes, plaid with polka dots…it all works. But for this outfit, a strange mix sort of jumped out of my coat closet at me, completely unplanned…I went for a pink and white paisley bomber jacket. It sort of brushed up against my sleeve when I went seeking a coat and I was like, “Ooh, that kind of works. I’m going for it.”  Combined with the double plaid of my dress and blanket scarf, I sort of feel like those print mixing geniuses in blogland that often make me gasp with delight.

Jacket: Victoria Beckham for Target.  You can find this exact one on Poshmark and Tradesy.

Have you discovered any new print mixes that you never would have expected would work so well? Also, do let me know what layering options you choose this time of year?

Keeping it on the edge,
