Adventures in Thrifting Part 17: Plaid Waterfall Vest & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up On the Edge #726

I am falling back on my old reliable adventures in thrifting today because I have been so busy, y’all. Busy and lazy. If that’s possible. I guess in the little down time I have between all the busy, I really just want to be lazy, so I am.

I have had Carolina on my mind and in my heart recently and have been sending prayers daily to everyone who has been impacted by hurricane season this year. To honor my beloved Smoky Mountains, I am featuring this adorable plaid waterfall vest that I picked up in a thrift store in North Carolina when I went on my road trip in February. I found it in the same thrift shop where I scored this crazy geometric print trench coat. The plaid vest is made from lightweight flannel and is very soft. I love the deep burgundy and dark blue colors of the plaid for the fall season as well.

Coordinating this color palette was really fun. I layered my preloved vest over navy blue leggings and a white tunic beneath a long sleeved burgundy tee shirt. I topped it with a really old military style denim jacket and a burgundy and white paisley scarf.

This outfit features more treasures I acquired on that last road trip south including my new navy blue cowgirl hat which I found in a boutique in Knoxville, Tennessee, and my newest cowgirl boots purchased from a Boot Barn in West Virginia. I am also wearing my horn necklace which I bought in Asheville, North Carolina, in 2022, and a pair of burgundy feather earrings from that same trip.

Once it was all together, it made a doggone cute cowgirl outfit suitable for fall in the North Country. Which, by the way, is nearly over. It has gotten really cold really quickly here. Eek. I am not ready.

Please pardon my temporary absence from commenting and joining link parties. I am doing all I can just to get some posts published and keep this little bloggy thing of mine alive. Once things settle down, if they ever settle down, well, I don’t know what will happen then. Because we never really do know what will happen, do we?

By the way, did anyone get to see the Northern Lights last night? We were able to capture a breathtaking view from the park where these photos were taken. Actually, the sky right above my head in the photos below were lit up in gorgeous bursts of green, blue, and pink dancing all across the night sky. I could hear other skywatchers throughout the park cheering and making exclamations of delight and wonder. It was a really cool experience.

And that’s all I have time and energy for today. I need to get up and start doing all the things that need to be done. But first, check out the features below and join the party.

I love your outfit! I keep missing the Northern lights and I am so bummed about that. However, I was in bed by like 7:30 last night so I’m not surprised I missed them.

We are in the visual path of the Northern Lights fairly often but I always miss them as well due to my early bedtime. Every once in while I get inspired to stay up when they are visible and then it ends up being rainy or too cloudy to see them anyway. This was the first time I have ever seen them and I have had dozens of opportunities living where I live.

My heart just goes out to the people who have been impacted by these two hurricanes. My fear is it’s only going to get worse.

Your outfit is a wonderful testimony to the beauty of the region. I love the Smoky Mountains and always have. I had tried to talk Mike into going to Asheville last year. I am afraid it will be years before we make it there again. I hope your friend is OK.

I hope you continue to blog even if it’s only when you feel like it. I would miss you terribly. I did go outside to see the Northern Lights. But, we have so much light pollution from Indianapolis and the neighborhood behind us. I remembered, however, reading that you should take a photo with your phone. And, there they were! They weren’t as brilliant as others’ photos have been, but I can now say I’ve seen the Northern Lights. Still on my bucket list, though! Thanks for the feature and the link up!

Marsha, thank you so much, my friend! My fears about all sorts of things just keep getting worse the older I get. I am still planning to road trip to North Carolina in February but I am so sad that my beloved Asheville will never be the same. Yes, all of my friends from that region are safe and healthy without having suffered too much damage or loss. I appreciate you asking. The Northern Lights were definitely a sight to behold. We had some light pollution as well so the colors were as vibrant but it was still really fascinating to watch the lights dance across the night sky. I wonder what ancient peoples thought when they first saw the Northern Lights and how stunning they must have been when there was absolutely no light pollution in the entire world!
