4 Tips to Stay Calm During a Home Project
Navigating through any major renovation can be challenging and stressful considering all of the unknowns that can be a source of great frustration. From dealing with contractors and selecting materials to staying within your budget and adding new systems, everything must come together until successful completion. There are some tried-and-true tactics for finding stress relief and peace of mind in this process. Read on to discover 4 tips for staying calm during home projects.
1. Prioritize and Create a Comprehensive To-Do List
Renovation projects can be both rewarding and stressful. To stay sane during a major home project, prioritize tasks according to importance by creating a detailed checklist with everything that needs to get done. Procrastination will only add stress to the process so break everything down into manageable tasks, assign deadlines, and attack each one systematically. By being prepared, you will feel more at ease to manage whatever challenges may arise, thereby helping you to remain calm until the project is completed. Remember, it is not the end of the world if things don’t go perfectly according to plan. Just remain focused and move forward and the end product will surely justify your effort!
2. Set Realistic Goals
Most people find themselves overwhelmed by an intimidating home project leaving them unsure of where to begin. One way to stay calm and successfully tackle a project is by setting realistic goals and then breaking each one down into manageable chunks. Whether you are repainting one room or redecorating an entire home, taking small steps toward your end goal can make an incredible difference.
Start by creating a list of what needs to be done, prioritizing each task according to importance, and sticking with that plan until completion. Set realistic deadlines for each step and celebrate as each small task is completed. By segmenting your project into smaller jobs, you will feel more in control of the whole process which will allow you to enjoy it more. So take a deep breath, set your intentions, grab your toolbox, and let your creativity flow, one calm step at a time!
3. Take Breaks When Necessary
When you get involved in home projects, it is easy to become immersed in your tasks and forget that breaks are necessary. A substantial amount of creative and physical energy is required for major home projects so taking breaks is equally essential to getting the job done. If you are painting rooms or renovating kitchens, breaks will allow you to step away, stretch your muscles, and clear your head. Working breaks into your scheduled plan and prioritizing them can lead to increased focus, clearer thinking, and feeling ready to tackle any surprises along the way!
Sometimes you need to step away from the project completely and do something wholly unrelated in order to refresh your brain. One enjoyable way to spend your break time during home improvement projects could be playing online casino games like those found at Spincasino.com/nz/ which provides strong encryption security and hundreds of online pokies to choose from. Games like these are great for short breaks as they don’t take hours to complete, which also provides the opportunity to play a different game on each break. They are fun, graphically appealing, and keep you engaged and alert while also allowing you respite from the project at hand. If these games are new to you, skilled customer service representatives are always available to assist with any questions.
4. Have Fun With Your Project
Attempting any home project can be daunting, but it certainly does not need to be dull. If you have been contemplating a home renovation project, use this opportunity to add something new and vibrant to your surroundings. Experiment with different colors and textures to add an unexpected element to your space. Not only will this make the task more enjoyable, but it will also serve as a pleasant diversion from any stress or anxiety related to it. So have some fun exploring your creative side and create a living space that you will love for years to come.
5. Know When to Hire a Pro
Sometimes, there might be home projects that you just don’t have the skills to complete. Even if you do have the skills, it can still cause a lot of stress and hassle trying to do it yourself. For your own peace of mind, it might be better to bring in a professional for certain projects. For example, hiring a professional roofer for any roof-related issues will help you avoid a lot of stress, especially if you have no personal experience with roof repairs.
Do you have any home projects in the works? Will you bring outside help or can you complete the project yourself?

Our recent guest room remodel was not a good experience. I wish I had had this information before we started.

Oh no, Barb! I am so sorry to hear that. I have been slowly renovating each room in my house and each new project definitely brings about some unexpected challenges. But I have learned from each bad experience to alter my ways for subsequent projects. I hope you have a happy and blessed new year!

Probably next year we will have some projects. But on the outside, that’s a bit easier. But I’m looking forward to it. Its the result that counts!

I have so many projects still to do both inside and outside! I feel like it is always a work in progress though. The end result is work! LOL

I love a good DIY!!! We have done almost all of ours. The biggest mistake I ever made was when we were creating a powder room, walk in closet, full bathroom, and tiled shower out of some space in our house before the last one. I had laid everything out on graph paper, but I completely messed up with the powder room! I had figured on the room being six feet wide when it was 60 inches wide! Mike, in the end, was glad of the mistake because it gave him an excuse to call in the plumber to rework where toilets were going. He can do just about everything, but he hates plumbing!
We don’t currently have a home project going, but I’ve got some ideas gurgling around in the back of my head. I really, really want a black room. Our house, however, is really dark with only 7 windows. I’m thinking the wall behind the washer and dryer may get the paint, though!
Have a fabulous rest of the week, Shelbee!

Oh my goodness, Marsha, you were an entire foot off in your powder room measurement! That will definitely mess you up along the way. Haha I have done most of my big home projects but there are still so many little ones on my list! In our house in Pennsylvania, we had two rooms, the family room and Archie’s nursery, that had black chalkboard walls. The whole rooms were not black but the one black accent wall was pretty cool! I think a black room would be pretty fantastic, too. Jeff used the family room chalkboard wall to list the college football schedules on Saturdays so he didn’t have to keep referring to the channel guide on the television! It was a fun aesthetic, for sure. I hope you are enjoying this week of holidays, my friend!

I am definintely one of those people that will forget about taking breaks and just plow through the project to try and get it done quicker; and it never, ever works!

My bad habit is forgetting to take a break to eat! Then I get all lightheaded and nauseous. It’s so silly! I don’t even think I mentioned food breaks in this post but those are super important, too!

These are such great tips! Home projects can certainly become stressful!

Thanks, Laura! Home projects really can be stressful. That’s why I like to take a spiritual approach to them. I mediate and do Reiki and pray when I am working on projects. It keeps me solidly in the moment and enjoying the process! Wishing you a very merry new year, my friend!
