Winter Style with Ada & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #53
Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful and safe holiday season! I am ready to get this year started in the most energized and empowering way…and I have so many ideas flooding out of me for 2018. Now I just need to get myself organized and take it one step at a time. First on my agenda though is to get a planner!
But this post is not about my big, disorganized plans! That topic is for another day perhaps. Instead, let’s get to some styling business to kick off the new year. Of course, if you follow my blog, then you know Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood. She is one my very dearest blogging friends and I have collaborated with her many times this past year. In fact, I joined her as co-host for her last Thursday Moda Link Up of 2017…you can see our posts here and here. So I thought it would be perfectly fitting to start the new year with Ada as my co-host for the very first #SpreadTheKindness Link Up of 2018.
*This is a sponsored post. This scarf was provided to me for purposes of this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
*Scarf: Outdoor Checked Pattern Artificial Wool Fringed Shawl Scarf c/o Rosegal. (Shop all Rosegal blanket scarves.)
If you happen to not be familiar with Ada, then please acquaint yourself with this fabulous woman! She is one of the most dedicated, hard-working bloggers I know. She is always willing to organize some amazing collaboration with blogger friends and she creates some of the best themes I have seen in the blogosphere! She is attentive and kind and always so supportive. I don’t really know how she does it all, to be honest, working a full-time non-blogging job and raising her gorgeous little girl, Vivian, who is clearly a fashionista in the making, but she shines through as fabulous as ever in every single blog post!
And here is a bit more about Ada in her own words…
“Hello, I am Ada from Michigan and I blog at Elegance and Mommyhood – a blog I have had for almost 6 years. I have been a mom since January 2013 and since then I have shown a lot of Mommy+Mini looks on my blog. After all my little girl puts a smile on everyone’s face. My style is trendy mixed with classic, colorful but elegant, cozy+comfortable but always with a touch of fancy. I love prints and today on my post I am styling a beautiful, ruffled floral blouse. I’d love it if you stop by and follow me via Instagram, Bloglovin and P
interest. I also have my own style linkup on Thursdays, and for the last linkup of 2017 Shelbee was actually my co-host, so welcome by the blog and join me every Thursday. I want to thank my friend Shelbee – whom I have collaborated with a lot in 2017 – for letting me be her very first co-host of her first linkup of 2018! I want to wish everyone a Healthy and Happy New Year 2018!!”
After all the hectic chaos of the holidays, Ada and I decided not to feature a theme of any sort for this collaboration. I think we are both creatively exhausted at this point. So we each put together our own posts without any preconceived style ideas and are bringing to you some Winter Style inspiration, the Shelbee and Ada way!
Since I live in a very cold climate, oversized warm and cozy scarves are a necessity to get me through the long winter months. These past few weeks, the temperatures in northern New York have been plunging into the negative 20’s and I am cold. Like…really freaking cold…to put it mildly. So I wanted to feature the newest addition to my blanket scarf collection: this deep green and blue fringed scarf from Rosegal which I paired with a navy shift dress, wool hat, and these fabulous forest green over the knee boots from Shoe Dazzle.
*Boots: Jacie Heeled Boot in Forest Green from Shoe Dazzle (Available in 3 colors).
I am a huge fan of blanket scarves. In fact, I don’t think I have ever seen a blanket scarf that I haven’t loved. So I did a little stalking around Ada’s blog and found some of my favorites from her collection! Ada knows what she’s doing with a blanket scarf, that’s for sure. But then, she also hails from a very cold climate where blanket scarves are necessary for winter survival!
So keep on scrolling to get to the link up where you can add your own posts and find some other amazing inspiration from all of my blogger friends! Also be sure to hop on over to Elegance and Mommyhood and discover more about my friend Ada!
How do you stay warm all winter long while keeping yourself stylish? Leave a comment. I would love to hear from you!
And now your favorite posts from last week’s link up!
Suzanne of Crazy Blonde Life looks amazing in this plum cold shoulder top and metallic booties in her post Happy Holidays from Crazy Blonde Life! I am so grateful to have had the opportunity this past year to get acquainted with Suzanne. I adore her style and her positive energy is contagious!
And my dear friend, Rena of Fine Whatever shared her post Greatest Hits Of 2017: Reclaim-Recycle-Reuse . Always a numbers girl, she has broken down so many fun statistics for her year in review. I can hardly believe it has been over a year since I first met Rena in real life and what a wonderful friend she has become since that first meet up!
Sending a giant heartfelt thank you to my dear friend, Ada, for all of your support and encouragement throughout this past year. I look forward to many more fun collaborations with you and I am excited to see where the next year takes us both.
Spreading the kindness and keeping it on the edge,
Shelbee

Hi Shelbee! Happy New Year! Thank you so much for featuring my post and picture on the blog today! I was surprised when I scrolled down and saw it! I love your scarf and those boots are amazing! It’s so cold here in North Carolina (8 degrees as we speak). I know that might not seem so cold to you but we’re just not used to those temperatures here and I’ve been pulling out everything I own and layering to keep warm! I hope you have a great day and thanks so much for the linkup!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Suzanne, thanks so much for stopping by! It was my pleasure featuring you. I am always so inspired by your impeccable style! And even though it is frigidly cold where I live, 8 degrees is still really, really cold! My kids have a delay for school today because it is -20 something with the wind chill…and I am so ready for them to go back to school already! Stay warm, my friend! I know I will be trying to!

Those are some pretty fabulous boots my friend! And you’re a better woman than me…the last time I shot an outfit was Christmas Eve. Once we were invaded by polar vortex temperatures, I was like, um…no. You know it’s cold when you see a day in the forecast that says 25 degrees and you’re excited about it…lol!

Thanks so much! So funny, I was just commenting on your post and popped over and saw your comment here! I actually shot these photos the week before Christmas and I have no more outfit photos in store! We woke up to -20’s this morning with no end in sight to this freezing cold hell! So I am not sure what I am going to do for pictures…maybe trying an indoor location tomorrow! Stay warm, my friend!

Thanks so much, Kellyann! I love teaming up with Ada, too. It is always so much and often pushes me to go places stylistically that I wouldn’t normally. As cold as I am right now, I despise the heat…so I am going to tell you to go right ahead and enjoy your colder weather and rock out that blanket scarf!

Layers are my life, Jodie! Although I was just getting really aggravated by my coat the other day. Why do I live in a place where I need 6 layers to keep warm? Then I can’t move…like that kid in A Christmas Story! Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a wonderful day!

Chrissy
Two faces I love to see! Shelbee, you look adorable in that hat and scarf. Of course the boots are fabulous and I love the way you color coordinated everything. It’s cold for Georgia – 12 degrees – so I find myself reaching for beanies, oh yes blanket scarves, corduroy or warm leggings. More layering. lol I just like to be cozy!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Chrissy, thanks so much! The color of these boots really caught my attention so I had to have them! I was really happy with how well they paired with this scarf. And don’t get me wrong here, 12 degrees is really freaking cold…but it has been like a frozen tundra here for weeks to the point that 12 degrees is starting to feel warm! Literally, if the temperatures break 0 and then actually climb to double digits, I am all like, “Hey, I am not freezing from the inside out right now!” Bust out those blanket scarves and beanies and stay warm, my friend!

Ada
First, I send you a giant, heartfelt thank you right back. I am home today with a cold, quite sick actually, so reading ALL of these sweet, amazing words… my spirits are lifted and truly my heart is happy! They were also needed after an awful text message I just received from a co-worker. But no need to start a new year with a negative Nancy. Thank you so very much for the sweet words and I know you meant every one. Also, the collage of some of my blanket scarves was a nice little surprise.
I love your outfit so much and it is something I would WEAR. You paid attention to every detail down to those amazing deep hunter green OTK boots and oh my – negative 20s is super super cold. I feel like I am living in Alaska these days. I love how your dark green and navy outfit showcases both colors wonderfully. You are a master of layering when it comes for dressing outside in the cold. Thank you again for having me today. I need to edit my post a little and add some more photos but for the most part is all finished and I hope you like it.
I have loved ALL of our collabs in 2017 and that we have grown so much together. Cannot wait to see where 2018 takes us, both style-wise and elsewhere!
Hugs and Happiest of Happy New Year Shel! <3 Ada.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Ada, I am so sorry that you have been stricken ill and then received negative text messages. People can be so…arggh. But I like your attitude…don’t let the negative people get you down. Just shine right through it all! I love your post, by the way, especially the way you had beautiful Vivian showcased! She really is one heck of a little fashionista, isn’t she? And I had so much fun going through your blog looking for blanket scarves! I could have made a collage of 20 blanket scarf outfits that I loved, but I was running short on time and space! And many of your ones from Target, I have the same exact ones! Great minds, my friend. I hope you feel better soon and I hope the temperatures warm up soon, too, or no one will be healthy! Looking forward to all the fun and amazing things that are going to happen in the blogosphere this year.
Hugs to you!

Jes, thanks so much! I am ready to get down to work now that the holiday crazy has passed! I realized how much I love routine and I don’t like how much it was disrupted with all the holiday stuff. Happy New Year Shelbee!! I read your blog a couple of times a week, but I have not commented yet (that is my New Year’s resolution). Your beautiful snowy pictures make me wish that it wasn’t so hot here in SoCal, but then when we were watching Ryan Seacrest on NYE, I was very happy that our house didn’t get below 66 degrees that night. I am looking forward to seeing all the excitement that you have planned for the coming year !
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Hi Rosie! Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting! I do love the snowy background for photographs, but honestly it is just too cold these past few weeks to stand out there long enough to take pictures. SoCal sounds marvelous to me right now! And I hear you about trying to comment more. I always feel so bad that I can’t get around to commenting on all of the posts that join my link ups. That is one of my goals this year as well! And I am already failing on day 2 of the year. Wishing you a very happy and healthy new year!

Beautiful outfit! You look great! I love your scarf and OTK boots. 😍 Honestly I have never experienced a below 20 temperature and it’s hard enough to dress for this kind of weather but anything below that and I am thinking I won’t be leaving my house!!! 😱 Looking forward to all of your 2018 posts!

Thanks so much, Maureen! I pretty much wear a scarf every day in the winter where I live! Today, we woke up to 15 degrees and we are excited that it isn’t below zero! This is going to be a long, harsh winter for us, I think! I will do my best to keep sharing cold weather outfit ideas…but by the end of winter, I may just look like an eskimo!

This post is making me long to wear my blanket scarves. I too have many, not out of necessity like Ada, but because I love pretty things! Living in Los Angeles, I have yet had the need to wear a blanket scarf this fall/winter. But I will still bust them out and enjoy their aesthetic even if I don’t need them for the warmth! Thanks for providing a happy and supportive space!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Elsie, thank you so much for stopping by and for such a lovely comment! I think I would wear blanket scarves, too, even if they were not a necessity. They are so pretty and soft and provide a little extra interest to any outfit. Enjoy the sunshine and send some rays my way! Have a fabulous weekend.
