What to Wear on Game Day (with DressLily) When You Have No Fan Gear
Yesterday, I let you all know about the college football festivities in our house every Saturday and how we have started a new tradition of me styling a game day outfit for Instagram. If you don’t already follow me on Instagram, you should! Just click here and then follow. Easy business. Way easier than understanding the rules and strategies of football.
*This is a sponsored post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
*Shirt: Plus Size Back Lace Up Panel Striped Knit Top ($20.61) c/o DressLily.
My college football game day outfit posts began back in September when I randomly took this photo in my mudroom with no intention of sharing it. But my husband loved it so much that I decided to post it with some goofy football hashtags.
Before the game was over that night, this picture was getting a lot of positive response mostly on Facebook. So my husband came up with the idea of a weekly post featuring my game day outfit. Here are some other outfits…
But then I quickly realized that I really don’t have all that much Penn State fan gear to continue on a weekly basis. So I had to start creating some outfits that consist of the school’s colors. And when I was asked to choose something from DressLily to share on my blog, this blue and white striped top really caught my eye. It’s perfect for those weekends that I want to be showing school spirit without sporting full blown fan gear. Or when I have just run out of fan gear entirely.
*Lace Extender: Mesh Floral Mini Plus Size Lace Extender Skirt ($8.64) c/o Rosegal.
This shirt is made of a super soft heavy knit cotton blend and so comfortable. I added my white lace extender for some extra interest although with the cute lace up back, the shirt looked great by itself, too. I added my Victoria Beckham for Target bomber jacket to create a fun pattern mix.
And there you have it…a game day outfit that consists of school colors when you have no fan gear to wear!
Do you get dressed up for your favorite sporting events? Do you wear full on fan gear or are you more subtle in your approach and just don school colors to show your spirit?
Keeping it on the edge,
Shelbee

I wear my same Ohio State sweatshirt every Saturday! I think it’s 10 years old.

Way to sneak Ohio State right onto my Penn State blog post, Jaymie! Hahahahahaha! Great game played, by the way! I am all about appreciating the dedication and hard work of college student-athletes. And I love that you have been wearing the same sweatshirt for 10 years for game day! That is true fandom, my friend. But I’m confused, aren’t you from Michigan?

Nope! I’m from Ohio. I’ve live in Michigan for the last 20 years. 🙂

Oh! It makes sense now! And I’m from Pennsylvania but have lived a large portion of my life outside of that state, but still a Penn State fan!

Such a cute outfit! I totally dig the fan colors. We have to wear school colors every Friday with jeans, so I have learned to be creative!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Becky! I think it is super fun to create an outfit with some sort of inspiration so why not have that inspiration be school colors, right?!

This outfit is so super cute on you! I prefer wearing the school colors in unique ways over wearing a school shirt. It’s more me that way. I grew up with mom who NEVER owned a sweatshirt, NEVER wore tee shirts, NEVER wore jeans even so dressing super casually is not my nature. The back of this top is just stunning! Awesome look Shelbee!

Kellyann, thanks so much! I am definitely not into wearing sweatshirts or anything really athletic looking either. So for me, I like the challenge of putting together an outfit with some fan spirit in my own way, too. What a great way to inspire an outfit with school colors for game day but not look all fanatic-like! And my husband loves it!

Nice. The problem here is that Cal has played most of their games on what is called Pac12 after Dark. Basically, either ESPN, ESPN2 or the Pac 12 Network televises the game which is nice but the late starts (7:30 or or 8:00pm here in California) suck. The other two local teams are Stanford and San Jose St (The worst team in D-I and really has not been on TV or even worth watching) have the same fate. So, by the time the game rolls around, we are pretty much tired from the day.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
I hear you on the late night games, Patrick! I am never compelled to stay up late for sports of any sort, but my husband will if Penn State is playing. We also don’t live locally to Penn State so we have to pay extra for the Big 10 network so that my husband can get all the games. It is the life of a sports fan, I guess! Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing!

I’m embarassed to say I do not watch football. Sometimes I get invited to a super bowl game and I spend the day mostly chatting, drinking and eating! Anyway, I love the idea of a game day outfit. That striped top looks so cute with that lace up back. And I’m very intrigued by that extender. I’m going to have to look into getting some because not only does it look adorable peeking out, but it provides more coverage. I have trouble finding tops that I like that are long enough for my liking. So many fall right in the middle of my hip area. These solve that problem nicely!

Theresa, I don’t actually watch football either! So no reason to be embarrassed about that. I just get dressed in the spirit of the game for my husband’s sake. And if I decide to stay home on game day, I spend the day eating and chatting, too! And yes, these extenders are so great for extra coverage and that cute little lacy detail is an absolute win. I have this same one in black as well and I really love them! Thanks so much for stopping by Have a great week!

These colors are really awesome! I love that you wore the school colors, that’s perfect enough for me. If I don’t have anything, usually I do something similar.

Thanks for linking up to Top of the World Style. The lace sticking out of the casual sweater is so cool. Nice contrast between girly and tomboy.

Thanks so much, Nicole! I really do love my lace extenders for just that reason…to add a little girly vibe!

Wonderful game day fan outfit that can continue to be styled beyond game day. Your hat is the perfect accessory to shade the sun, or protect from the elements while at the game or anywhere else. Thank you for sharing with Hat Attack.

Thank you so much, Judith! You have me so hat inspired that I cannot get enough of all the different hat styles! I have so many more to come. I hope I don’t overdo it at your Hat Attack Link Up!
