What Not to Wear for Airplane Travel
My last two posts have included photos from last Friday when we drove Jeff to the airport for a two week work-related trip to Georgia. I sure hope he is enjoying some warmth and sunshine down there because it has been nothing but rain and snow up here. I am already dreaming of spring, but winter hasn’t even officially arrived yet!
I decided that since we were going to the airport, we might as well take the opportunity for some blog photo shoots with different scenery. You can see Radical Ralphie’s photos in Monday’s post. I was hoping for outdoor photos along the way, but due to our time restraints from being too slow out of the gate that morning as well as some pretty terrible weather, we had to settle for photos inside the airport. So after sitting in the car for an hour and then walking from the furthest possible parking space into the airport terminal, I was kind of a hot mess by the time picture taking commenced.
Once we arrived at the airport and Jeff got himself all checked in, we had about 20 minutes to visit the Military Courtesy Room and then take some photos of my outfit. I took Ralphie’s outfit photos after we bid Jeff farewell and safe travels. What I thought was kind of adorable in the mirror that morning turned out to be not so great after all. Not only did my hair turn into a frizzy mess from the weather, but I forgot to put on lipstick and the rest of my makeup was essentially melting off anyway. To add insult to the mess that I appeared to be, these stripey tights were incredibly uncomfortable and I had to add shapewear shorts on top to keep them from falling down. As you all know, shapewear shorts are like binding your body in duct tape which might be even more uncomfortable than crotch drooping tights. And then using the bathroom presents all sorts of annoying issues to get everything properly back into place and minimally uncomfortable. To top off the whole disaster, the light inside the airport was definitely less than ideal for any sort of proper photography.
While the dress itself was rather cozy in its lightweight flowiness, I needed a little topper to keep my arms warm. This cropped plaid jacket seemed like a brilliant idea with its matching purple shades, but in the photographs it resulted in complete frumpiness which was amplified by my oversized scarf and tweed overcoat.
At first glance, the outfit may appear to be perfect for traveling in comfortable cuteness, but in reality, this whole thing was a giant fail. Thankfully, I only had to drive an hour each way rather than actually sitting on a plane for half the day. Had that been the case, I would have really been kicking myself with these combat boots for my poor outfit choice!
I promptly changed into my jammies upon returning home on Friday morning and stayed that way until Monday morning when life forced me back into clothing and out of the house.
Has that ever happened to you? You put on something that you thought would work and regretted it every minute thereafter? Have you ever spent the entire weekend in your pajamas, hiding from the world?
Also, if you have a few extra minutes, won’t you hop on over to The XO Factor and check out my interview there! What an honor to be featured!

Oh, that’s happened to me quite a bit Shelbee. When I find things that just don’t make it for the entire day, I’ve been better about trying to fix them or purge them. It’s just annoying to futz with my clothing.
I always take into account how easy my shoes are to get on and off.

I am glad I am not alone on this one! I did give it a best effort, for sure. And yes, easy on and off shoes for airplane travel are a necessity! Thank goodness I only had to drive to the airport and back!

Looking so very nice. It might have been not fun to wear for airport business but looking too cute. Love it.

Thanks, Patrick! It is a shame that it was so uncomfortable, but I guess that price of being cute sometimes!

Wow, just by looking at it, it looks like a great outfit and it looks like it would be super comfortable. But I do what you are saying: the other day, I put an outfit that looked cute but I kept having to pull up and pull down the underneath layers: the leggings kept riding down and my tank kept riding up. Not the most comfy!

Ha, I have been there, for sure! I love layers, but the more layers you add, the more fussy it all becomes! Then I start adding shape wear on top of things, not because I want the shaping effect but rather because I need something to hold all the clothes in place. Sometimes, it just isn’t worth it!

When traveling I always consider items that can be easily removed and put back on.

I absolutely agree, Lorena! I also usually only bring the jewelry that I am wearing. I hate to pack jewelry!
