Welcome to The Bad Buy Book
Welcome to The Bad Buy Book!
Hi, we are Shelbee from Shelbee on the Edge and Nancy from Nancy’s Fashion Style and this is the start of a new collaboration called The Bad Buy Book! Together, we have initiated a monthly series where we share photos of our worst fashion purchases. And we invite you, the readers, to submit photos of your worst purchases. What! We hear you think. Yes, your worst purchases! Why would we do that?
We all do our best to look great in our outfits, choose the right accessories, the right makeup, the perfect shoes, and wait for the best light to shoot the most flattering outfit photos. And now we are asking you to show us the items you don’t feel your very best in. You know, those sitting boots, that dress that is actually not quite your color, the skirt that is a size too small but the saleswoman said it looked amazing. We all own those items! And while they may look fabulous, they don’t always feel fabulous! So we want you to show us your bad buys and tell us the story about them! What made you purchase the item? And why do you dislike it now? And why not share them with us? We buy these things for a reason then hide them in the back of the closet. Now it’s their turn to share the limelight.
Every month on the 15th, we will both publish a post sharing the photos you have sent to us along with their stories. Photo submissions will be due by the 1st of each month so we have time to edit and compile all of the entries. At the end of each post we will let you know the theme for the next month’s post. Photos and the story of your “Bad Buy” can be emailed to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or nancybaten@upcmail.nl. Please put “Bad Buy” in the subject line.
The theme for our first Bad Buy collection will be Sitting Shoes! You know those shoes that are absolutely adorable, complete stunners, to die for, those had-to-have-them shoes. The ones that were so perfect in the store but turned out to be the most uncomfortable, intolerable shoes ever. Those are the shoes that Nancy and I like to call “Sitting Shoes.” Please submit photos of your Sitting Shoes by March 1 to be featured in our next post.
To get the ball rolling, Nancy and I are sharing our Sitting Shoes below.
“I was so in love with these boots, I can be totally enchanted by a pair of shoes or boots. When they were delivered, I immediatly I put them on. I thought, what a fabulous color, what a beautiful length, and they fit perfectly. And then I walked…….it was horrible. I can’t walk normal on these. What a shame!” -Nancy
“These open toe booties really caught my eye in the store with their adorable lace up detail and soft shade of taupe. I walked a lap around the store and they fit perfectly. So I bought them. Only to discover that they are horrifically uncomfortable. After about 15 minutes in them, the back was rubbing my ankle raw, the front was cutting open my big toe, the heel is much to high, and there is no support in the foot bed at all. I could barely tolerate them long enough to take outfit photos and almost twisted my ankle about 5 different times walking on the soft grass. These shoes are most definitely sitting shoes! But they sure are cute!” -Shelbee
We look forward to seeing your Sitting Shoes and other Bad Buys!
Sitting in my shoes on the edge,
Shelbee (in collaboration with Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style)

Hi,
I have the most finitely feet in the world. But it took me about 55 years to stop buying uncomfortable shoes! I always bought for the “cuteness”. Now that I’m older I still look for cute but comfort is first.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
I hear you, Debra! I think you should get a 30 day trial with shoes and be able to return them worn! One lap around the shoe department is no indication of long term comfort. This is what happens to me all the time. They feel great walking through the store, but then after I wear them for about 30 minutes, a different side of the shoes emerges. The bitchy side! Ha. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Jodie, thank you so much! We thought it was pretty fun, too! I have a huge collection of bad buys since I can never seem to part with things even when they don’t work for me! Ha. So I am sure I will never run out of things for this series. Thanks for playing along!

Love this idea. I have a few! Why can’t cute and comfortable be a package deal?
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks, Diane! I hope you submit some of them to be featured next month! I am getting better at putting things back in the store if they are not perfect for me. I have too many “almost perfect” things in my closet!

I didn’t realize anybody else called those oh so cute, omg they kill my feet..”sitting shoes”! I purged several pair from my closets earlier this winter and gave them to a friend. That way I still get visitation rights. One pair of boots in particular truly felt like I was giving up a child!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Robin, it is such a great phrase for those shoes, isn’t it?! Well, I do hope you have some photos to submit for the Bad Buy Book! I have some cute clothes too that are just awful or they look so cute in the trick mirrors at the store…only to be transformed into something horrid in my mirror at home! Ha! Thanks so much for stopping by!

It seems that we had the similar idea. My last post was dedicated to my shopping fail. o) Because we all do mistakes, right? Sometimes learning is quite a painful thing… like these shoes mentioned in your post….o)

This is a brilliant idea and collaboration between you two. I will love visiting this monthly “Bad Buy Book” each month. I remember your cute booties from our wedding post together. Both yours and Nancy’s boots are two cute and in two stunning neutral colors – too bad they are so uncomfy!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Ada! Do you have any bad buys? You must share them with us so you can be featured in this series! It is a shame that I have quite a few pairs of shoes that are super cute and terribly uncomfortable! Ugh.

Thanks so much, Jennie! I think it is going to be fabulous! If you have sitting shoes of your own, be sure to send us a photo!

It really is such a shame those booties are so incomfy! They look super cute!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
I totally agree with you, Hannah! I am so bummed about them. I literally cannot even walk from the car to my destination. They are that bad! Thanks for stopping by and thank you for sympathizing with my bad buy plight!

I have so many pairs of sitting shoes and boots! Open toe shoes always rub and cut in. I often find that flats rub my heels too – they trick me into thinking they’re comfortable only to be in agony ten minutes later!

I have so many trickster shoes, too, Emma! They are comfortable in the store, but then in real life, they are awful! I hope you will submit a photograph of your sitting shoes for out first installment of The Bad Buy Book!

I love this! You could turn it into a book. I’m going to find some contributions to the cause when I organize my closet today 😂

Yes, Warrior Mama! You rock! I can’t wait to see what you pull out of that closet of yours!

I read a story by Michelle Montoro named “Our Open Marriage: How It Began and Why We Have No Rules.” It was quite short and at the end it says “You can read more of Michelle’s story and what she shares about her life on her blog Shelbee on the Edge.” I’m very interested in this topic and would like to hear what you said.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Kal. All that meant is that I share more about my life on my blog here. I don’t really share much about open marriage in this space, just more of my everyday living with my husband and my children. I will be writing more about my polyamorous lifestyle on Medium very soon. I had taken a bit of a writing break for the holidays. I appreciate your interest and ask that you stay tuned for more to come on Medium.

Thanks for replying Shelbee. You’re a nice looking woman and your husband is a very lucky guy. I’ll be looking forward to your future discussions on your polyamorous lifestyle and the other lucky men and women.
