Wednesday’s Quote of the Week: About Life & Change

This is not a sponsored post.

Oh, this crazy life. And the universe and all of its wild plans. So often, we can feel like we’ve lost control, like we have no say in our destiny, like the plans have already been made without our consent. And sometimes that may be true. But then on other occasions, we realize that we actually do have some control over our lives. We have the power to make changes whenever we feel that change is needed. I have a dear friend who always says that when we find something in our lives that we do not like, we have three choices. We can accept it, we can change it, or we can leave it.

Over the past six months, I have done all three of these things with regard to various situations in my life. I have accepted the things that I cannot change, even things that I may not necessarily like. And those things seem to be working out in my favor. It was almost as if the universe rewarded my acceptance by changing the situation for me. It really is quite amazing how that works. And the things that I couldn’t change and refused to accept, I have walked away from. Certain toxic relationships in my life had to come to an end. And once I was able to leave those situations, I was better able to thrive and move forward toward reaching my own goals.

And only just recently, I have realized that there are many things in my life that need changing. Change purely because I am craving self-improvement on various fronts. For example, you all know that I went back to work just a few months ago after 8 years of staying at home with my kids. I feel invigorated by this change. But I was tired all the time, so some other changes were necessary as well. I started a 7 day cleanse on Sunday and will give you the details on that once I have completed the process. And on the financial front, I am also making some major changes that include serious commitments on my part.

Because what I am realizing now more than ever is this…

“Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me.”

Thank you, Carol Burnett, for your simple yet brilliant words of wisdom. It is time to take control of the things that matter to me. Because in reality, there is nothing truer than Ms. Burnett’s words…no one will make the changes for me. Change comes from within and takes commitment and self-discipline. And there is no better time than right now to start improving our lives. Life is too damn short and every day brings us closer to the end. It is high time that I shut up and start getting shit done.

Step one is this 7 day cleanse which is promising more energy, better mental clarity, and all around improved health. Stay tuned for those results coming next week. In the meantime, I will just be plugging along, doing what I do, making necessary adjustments along the way, and sharing it when I feel inspired.

“Smile in the mirror. Do that every morning and you’ll start to see a big difference in your life.” -Yoko Ono

-Robert Frost

“Infuse your life with action. Don’t wait for it to happen. Make it happen. Make your own future. Make your own hope. Make your own love. And whatever your beliefs, honor your creator, not by passively waiting for grace to come down from upon high, but by doing what you can to make grace happen… yourself, right now, right down here on Earth.”

-Bradley Whitford

“A year from now you will wish you had started today.”

-Karen Lamb

“It doesn’t matter where you are, you are nowhere compared to where you can go.” -Bob Proctor

“By changing nothing, nothing changes.”

-Tony Robbins

“When in doubt, choose change.”

-Lily Leung

“All great changes are preceded by chaos.”

-Deepak Chopra

“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself.”

-Andy Warhol

What changes have you been making lately to improve yourself and your life?

Great outfit! I love the hat, jacket and necklace! And you are so right about sometimes just embracing the suck in some areas of our life and working hard to remove it in the other areas our life. Good for you. Thanks for sharing your journey.

First of all, 100% hear you on going back to work after being a SAHM and being tired ALL THE TIME. My end of day exhaustion is on par with when my kids were toddlers. But. I enjoy having a job again, so I’m trying to adapt! And now let’s talk about this outfit! What a great look! The leopard lining on that jacket is giving me heart eyes. And that buffalo plaid clutch is SO cute!

Gina, thanks so much! I love leopard and Buffalo plaid together so much even if it is just a tiny splash of them. And I have this jacket in 3 colors that how much I loved it. As far as this working mom gig, the struggle is real! Although, I do feel like I get way more accomplished when I have way more to accomplish! Hang in there, mama. We are boss ladies and we’ve got this handled!

At the end of it all, change is the one constant we can expect to occur in our lives with (almost) predictable regularity. Ah the sweet irony of things. Not that it makes us like change any more, nor does it make change any less easier to accept knowing that it will invariably happen. These days, however, I am of the mindset that what comes post change may very well be spectacular. Of course that isn’t always the case but I sincerely believe that positive affirmation is 60% of the game xoxo

p/s props to you, dearest friend, for re-entering the workforce whilst slaying at your blog and parenting, you are singularly one of the most inspirational souls I know.

    • shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com

Oh my word, Sheela, you do flatter me too much! Thank you so much for that. And I agree that change is a constant and should very often be welcomed into our lives. In fact, when things get too comfortable and mundane for me, I yearn for change. If it doesn’t come on its own, I do dumb shit to shake things up a bit! I guess I like to turn life on its head every now and then. It keeps things interesting. But on the flip side, and I suppose another irony of it all, is that I do crave and need constancy as well as structure in my days in order to function more efficiently. Life is a ride, that’s for sure, I guess we just need to embrace all of the ups and downs and enjoy it while we are here! And you, my friend, are one of my biggest inspirations!
