Use Your Power to Empower & Link Up On the Edge #157
I have said this 100 times, maybe 1,000 times, maybe more. Experience is knowledge. Knowledge is power. And when we have those things, we have an obligation to share what we know in a helpful way. What good is having experience and knowledge and power and hoarding it away in secrecy? What good is hiding our talents and our expertise from the world and from those who could benefit from it? What good is living on this earth if we are not going help each other through the whole messy ride? What good is being a human if we aren’t being, well, human?
Humankind. That is an interesting term, isn’t it? When we are so often not very kind at all. Yet the word kind is part of the very word that has been used to label our species for, I don’t know, a really long time. Being the insanely obsessed wordsmith that I am, I had to go research the etymology of the word humankind and more precisely, the suffix -kind. The word kind as a noun (the very noun affixed to the end of the word human to describe our species) means simply class, sort, variety, nature, race, family, kin.
But if you look at the meaning of the word kind as an adjective, you will see these descriptors…friendly, deliberately doing good to others, well disposed. However, from the Old English word cynde, it means natural, native, innate. That right there. That’s the part that got me. The root of the word kind means natural, native, and innate. So why do so many of us find it so difficult to exhibit kindness when the word itself actually means natural and innate? I don’t have an answer. I just share the information and pose the thought-provoking question. That is my vocabulary lesson for the day. While I am truly fascinated by it, I very well may have bored you three-quarters of the way to your death. For that, I apologize. I imagine death by boredom is not a pleasant way to go. It’s rather anti-climactic, isn’t it?
Speaking of death. I am not ready to leave here. I have way too many things that I still want to do. And this is why I have made some serious changes to my lifestyle in the past year. I mentioned a bit last Friday about my Shaklee journey. And because I have had the most amazing experience, I am going to share the details of the last 7 Day Healthy Cleanse that Jeff and I did back in May.
Weight in pounds | Jeff | Shelbee |
Day 1 | 227.4 | 185.8 |
Day 2 | 227.0 | 185.0 |
Day 3 | 227.8 | 184.4 |
Day 4 | 227.4 | 183.0 |
Day 5 | 225.6 | 183.8 |
Day 6 | 226.2 | 183.0 |
Day 7 | 225.0 (-2.4) | 181.0 (-4.8) |
The first time I did this cleanse, I lost 6.6 pounds. I started at 194.4 and ended at 187.8. The average weight loss for the week on this cleanse is between 3 to 7 pounds. I didn’t expect to lose as much the second time around especially since I started 2 pounds less than where I ended the last cleanse. I actually found the change in my body to be more significant than the weight loss on the scale.
In Inches | Day 1 | Day 7 |
Waist | 38 | 37 |
Bust | 41.5 | 40.5 |
Hips | 41 | 40.5 |
Thighs | 23.5 | 22.5 |
Calves | 15.5 | 15.0 |
Biceps | 12.5 | 12.5 |
Jeff also lost an inch off of his waist. That was all he measured.
I am finding this cleanse to be a great way to jump start my weight loss whenever I hit a plateau. And here is the great news about it, you can get a free 7 Day Healthy Cleanse if you join The Prove It Challenge from now until the end of the year. Plus there is always a no questions asked money back guarantee if you are not completely satisfied with the results. Although, I don’t think will happen.
I am going to repeat my other results here because they are worth repeating. These products have literally changed my life. Since I began using them less than one year ago, I have experienced the following improvements…28 pounds lost, a drastic reduction in peri-menopause symptoms, a noticeable increase in energy, focus, and motivation, no more headaches or migraines, healthy blood pressure, reduction in allergy and acid re-flux symptoms, a much stronger immune system, no more chronic yeast infections, minimal mosquito bites, eczema relief, and a clean and chemical free home.
My quality of life is better than I have ever anticipated. We are only given a short time on this earth so we must make the best of it. Being healthy is the only way to enjoy this already messy journey to its fullest! And so I am using the power I have gained from this knowledge to empower you as well. If you want to learn more, you can find all sorts of information here, or just send me a message or a comment and I can help guide you through it all.
Do you want to live longer, healthier, and happier? I know I sure do! And I am committed to doing just that…using my power to empower! Seriously, what are you waiting for?!

I do think this as well. I wrote today about ways to deal with health challenges, as I think I have learned quite a bit over this last 10 yrs. Congrats on your journey to getting healthier, you look radiant, and the benefits sound wonderful. I love the kimono, red is one of your best colors and the skirt, lipstick, kimono all look amazing. I thought it was interesting about human-kind, but I can be an English geek, as I had so many English classes in college.
enjoy your weekend!

Jess, thanks so much! I am heading over to read your post in a moment. I feel radiant which is probably the best benefit of all, isn’t it? And every time I wear red and see photos of myself in it, I really, really love the color! Yet I don’t wear it all that often. I guess I should choose red more frequently. I love that you are an English geek, too! Yay! Nerds unite! Have the most wonderful weekend, my friend.

You didn’t bore me with the dissection of the word humankind. I often find myself wondering about the lack of kindness of so many humans and have to remind myself of the many who are kind and be thankful for that rather than letting those who aren’t get me down. I love your look – from the T-shirt with the wonderful sentiment and the way you’ve knotted it to the beautiful flowy kimono…the red maxi and those wonderful floral sneakers. And you’ve done an amazing job with the weight loss – you look happy, gorgeous and healthy.

Ruth, thank you so very much for this lovely comment! I agree with you…I would much rather focus on the kindness that is exhibited than complain about the unkindness. Kindness is my jam! I need a tee shirt that says that…exactly that. Kindness is my jam. I hope you have the most wonderful weekend!

The kindness in the humankind is something that has always been on my mind. I will admit I am disappointed by our species but I still believe in the kindness, AND being practicing it always myself!
Yet this is not my ¨I´ll say something kind¨, it´s just the truth, your body looks amazing! I had noticed it before, of course, but the side by side photo makes it very obvious!
I will also like to add something that most people don´t normally realize: nutrition supplements and protein shakes can actually save lives. I say it from experience as my husband has been really sick and malnourished for about 6 years because a surgeon accidentally cut a nerve during a routine hernia hiatal operation and he got stomach semiparalysis(gastroparesis). He survived these years thanks to supplements. Now, after various more operations, he can eat again(not like a healthy person but there´s definitely an improvement, at least he doesn´t look like he just came out of the Auschwitz concentration camp!) and we have been very thankful that supplements and proteins shakes were there to help during this ordeal!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Helen, my friend, thank you so much for the kind words…there are still very many humans who exhibit kindness! Probably more than those who don’t…we just have a tendency to highlight and hold on to the negative rather than focus on the positive. But there is still lots of kindness out there, so I guess we shouldn’t lose faith in humankind yet!
And oh my goodness…that information about your husband. How awful. But I am so glad that supplements have helped him to survive. I agree with you that supplements and such are great for everyone’s health, those trying to lose weight or gain weight. I am glad that he is coming through the ordeal!
I hope you are enjoying your weekend!

You are looking amazing! I am in the depth of something, perimenopausal I suspect, I am so looking forward to getting it sorted x #openslather
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Alicia! This perimenopausal stage is no joke! I am finding that the soy protein is helping so much! There are studies showing that “prolonged daily soy consumption has been shown to reduce important menopause-related inflammatory proteins”. (Article: Is Soy a Remedy for Menopausal Symptoms?) Something to consider! I wish you much luck getting through these awful symptoms! I am right there with you.

It always irks me when people have knowledge and gifts but don’t want to share it. No point in knowing something that is useful and not sharing it!

What a fun tee and I really like the kimono, it’s so nice with the red skirt! Glad this cleanse worked for you!
Hope that you had a great weekend! I had a fun night out with some Insta friends in Brisbane which was awesome 🙂
Thank you so much for joining the #weekdayWearLinkUp 🙂 I just posted this week’s linkup, I’d love you to join again! 🙂
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Mica, thanks so much! I was hesitant about the kimono paired with the long skirt…I thought it might be too frumpy! But there was a stain on the back of my shirt that I needed to cover up. Haha. And it ended up working out! I had a wonderful weekend with friends at a music festival but I came down with a pretty bad cold and now I am struggling to get moving today!
