Outfits of the Day #ootd
I love to put together outfits. I find something calming and exciting in the process. And if I think I look good, I tend to feel great! Hopefully, you can find some inspiration here for feeling amazing in your own body.

Funky Sunday (or Deployments Suck)
Deployment life is definitely not for the faint of heart. In fact, it pretty much downright sucks. Today marks 108 days since J left and we have been in a funk since day 85. And in case you’re wondering, we definitely count the days…Every. Single. One. Which is why I know the exact day when the funk set in. Some days move quicker than others. Some days are easy. Some days are long. Some are really, really long. And some days are completely awful and I think, “How the heck are we going to make it through the next ____ days?” Long holiday weekends, like this one, are difficult because…

Gladiator Gladness
I bought these black gladiator sandals about 8 or 9 years ago from UrbanOG for less than $20. I thought they were awesomely cool and unique and you didn’t see anyone wearing gladiator sandals at that time. I loved these babies so much that I styled them with a white sundress and an armband of flowers when I renewed my vows with J in May of 2010 (our actual wedding ceremony was in January of 2008. I wore black combat boots that day!). These days, you can’t shop summer sandals in any shoe store or online store without being bombarded with about a thousand different options in gladiator sandals. I…

Moms’ Night Out
This past Saturday was our monthly night out for my Moms’ Club. We pick a place (either a restaurant or someone’s house), ditch the children with their fathers (or a grandparent or babysitter if dad is deployed), and get together for some much needed girl talk unhindered by kids! This month we chose Good Fellos, a cozy little brick oven pizza place in Sackets Harbor, New York. The atmosphere was warm, the food was good, and the company was even better. We ate, we laughed, we even cried a little…and then we headed home in sleepy stupors at the oh so late hour of 9:30 p.m.! It’s definitely a mom’s…

Deployment Blues
Today marks 100 days of deployment! I think it also marks a turning point in our moods because yesterday during Friday Night Skype Time, emotions were running high for all of us. It was the first Skype date that ended in tears all around. The kids were crying that they miss Daddy so much and they want him “to come home forever.” This, of course, led to both my husband and I tearing up. We have all been doing really well with this separation, better than I expected, in fact. Last night truly was the first time that the real Deployment Blues set in… Appropriately, I donned a mostly blue…

Cheese Curd Day
Thursday is Cheese Curd Day where I live. At least it is at The Cheese Store on Route 3 in Watertown, New York. I had never heard of cheese curds until last week when a local resident insisted that I must try the fresh cheese curds on Thursday. So yesterday, we headed out to The Cheese Store to see what all the excitement was about. I admit that I did a Google search on cheese curds because I was very unsure what to expect. In fact, the name itself kind of grossed me out! For those of you who are also unfamiliar with this local delicacy, this is what I…

Androgynous Chic and White Jeans
I recently obtained my first pair of white jeans. And I went for the skinny ones! It took me until I was in my 40’s to have the confidence to even try white jeans and I do admit that I was a little nervous wearing them, especially dealing with two young boys all day! But my white jeans and I both made it through the day in tact (although the boys were in day care for 4 hours of the day, so maybe that’s cheating!). I found these NYDJ white skinny jeans on the clearance rack at Burlington Coat Factory. I was not familiar with this brand, but was curious…

Lunch and Errands
Today, after I dropped the kids at daycare, I had a few hours to run some errands and enjoy a leisurely lunch with my best friend E and my mother-in-law. The weather is starting to cool down a bit, so it was the perfect opportunity to try out my new “real” boyfriend jeans. I had been looking for a pair of darker wash boyfriend jeans, but since I didn’t really need a new pair of jeans, I didn’t want to pay the price of the oh-so-trendy style. And I had recently read on a fashion blog somewhere (and I cannot remember where, so I do apologize) that a cheaper option…

Meet the Teacher
I went to meet my older son’s pre-K teacher yesterday and I wanted to be “mom casual.” I’m not sure exactly what that means, but I didn’t feel comfortable wearing jeans or shorts, so I opted for tan ankle length pixie pants. I wasn’t sure that a tank top displaying my tattoos was completely appropriate, but it was muggy and hot out and I would rather show my true colors than my sweat! So after playing with layers of lightweight cardigans and chambray shirts, I chose this indigo tank with white stripes and layered a thin scarf around my neck for some extra detail on an otherwise boring outfit. I…

Church and Church Appropriate Attire
First, let me start by telling you that I am not a strict church-goer. In fact, after college where I completed a Minor in Religious Studies and analyzed the world’s major religious belief systems in an intensely academic way, I was completely turned off to all religion for a very long time. However, this past winter while my husband was away on a painfully extended training trip which lasted from the first week of January until the last week of February, I decided it was a good time to see what church could offer me at this point in my life. I was alone with my two young sons braving…
