The Thrifty Six are Tickled Pink
Last month, the Thrifty Six brightened up January with some fabulously bold and brilliant styles in a beautiful array of rainbow hues. It was just what my soul needed in the middle of this long, gray winter and I quickly realized that I need to wear more bright colors this time of year for an instant mood boost.
I think my Thrifty Six sisters would agree since Grace chose “Tickle Me Pink” as the theme for February…one of the main colors that I wore to brighten up January. It seems that pink is my favorite color these days. And now I cannot get the lyrics to Aerosmith’s “Pink” out of my head!
“Pink” by Aerosmith
Pink, it’s my new obsession
Pink, it’s not even a question
Pink on the lips of your lover
‘Cause pink is the love you discover
Pink as the bing on your cherry
Pink, ’cause you are so very
Pink, it’s the color of passion
‘Cause today it just goes with the fashion
Pink, it was love at first sight
Yeah, pink, when I turn out the light
And pink gets me high as a kite
And I think everything is going to be alright
No matter what we do tonight
You could be my flamingo
‘Cause pink is the new kinda lingo
Pink, like a deco umbrella
It’s kink, but you don’t ever tell her
Pink, it was love at first sight
Pink, when I turn out the light
Pink gets me high as a kite
And I think everything is going to be alright
No matter what we do tonight
I want to be your lover
I want to wrap you in rubber
As pink as the sheets that we lay on
‘Cause pink is my favorite crayon, yeah
Pink, it was love at first sight
Pink, when I turn out the light
Pink, it’s like red but not quite
And I think everything is going to be alright
No matter what we do tonight
*Side note rant: I tried to embed the official music video here but it is age-restricted so just a big black screen appears. After watching it through a few times to see why it is age restricted, I am now a bit baffled. There are two quick flashes of the female breast with visible nipple. That’s it. That’s the only thing that could possibly cause an age-restriction. And y’all know how I feel about the topic of the female breast! By the way, Super Bowl half time shows are much more inappropriate than this video…so if the Super Bowl hasn’t offended you, then this video probably won’t either. I do realize that the lyrics have tons of sexual innuendo, but so do most songs and basically every kid-friendly, family-oriented sitcom or cartoon that is currently in production. By the way, you may see this song come up again as a Songful Style prompt at some point so I can rant even more!
Oh goodness, that is enough about the song, now let’s get to the pink stuff!
If you have not followed along with this thrifty group, each month we choose a theme for creating an outfit with at least one preloved component. Generally, the preloved or thrifted piece should be the one that satisfies the stated theme. I try to incorporate more than one preloved piece into each outfit which is not too challenging considering that at least one-third of my wardrobe is preloved.
Currently, my closet room is a complete disaster so I was struggling to find something pink and preloved. I almost restyled my bright pink dress from last month until I spotted this pretty vintage pussy bow blouse that features a Taj Mahal print in shades of pink. It was buried in a pile of clothing with just a bit of the bow peeking out as if to whisper, “Pick me, please. Please, pick me.”
I had forgotten about this lovely little vintage number so her plea to be chosen came at the perfect moment…
“Pink isn’t just a color; it’s an attitude, too!”
Miley Cyrus
I decided to style this blouse with a pair of my new high waisted flared denim from Charlotte Russe and a preloved white blazer to create a bright and airy pants suit look to whisk me out of winter hibernation straight into the spring bloom. I added lots of pink and pearly accessories along with my thrifted white faux fur coat. Then we headed indoors for the photoshoot because I completely disappeared into the snowy background wearing all white.
Now let’s check out how my thrifty friends were tickled pink!
The Thrifty Six is a group of international fashion influencers who meet once a month in our little space on the internet to share our thrifty outfits. On the third Monday of every month, we will all share an outfit based on a theme that features preloved wardrobe pieces. Shopping and reselling preloved clothing is so much better for the environment and you can find some of the best fashions in thrift or charity shops. The Thrifty Six are here to inspire you to shop second hand!

“When I found this pink coat in a charity shop a few years ago I was over the moon as I’d been looking for one exactly like it. My bag and boots are also preloved – from eBay. I’ve gone all out pink with a floral print thrown in…I’m ready for spring!”

“I wasn’t sure about this funky light pink sweater when I first saw it hanging in the charity shop, but I’m really glad I decided to get it! The tulle detail on the sleeve is so unique and fun. This would’ve made the perfect look for Valentine’s Day.”

“Go hard or go home!…That’s my approach to February’s Thrifty Six post…The theme is ‘Tickle Me Pink’ so I’m bringing you panic-attack neon mixed with blush, candy, lipstick, baby, shocking, fuchsia, cerise and magenta…Less of a ‘tickle’, more of an unexpected physical assault! (in the nicest possible way). I styled this riot of colour to see how much pink I could smash together…it’s not for shrinking violets but for me it’s pink perfection!”

“I don’t know how I got so lucky as to find this amazing little number all in silk in a print of vibrant colours all on pink. The one thing I know is that this dress is all about ‘more is more, and less is a bore’- so you just know I had to add these incredible necklaces! I found them in a little no-name shop in Fort Lauderdale-where the lady gets all these amazing accessories from left-over, brand new retail merchandise. And she sells them for peanuts! I mean…how could I resist?”

“There is pink in this fabulous dress with pockets! The cardigan isn’t preloved but it’s perfect with the dress. I haven’t worn the dress much because it is actually too short for my liking, but I adore the colors and the print. And the pockets! Did I mention it has pockets??”
Nancy
And me!
“I realized that I had styled a preloved bright pink dress for our Brighten Up January theme. And I had considered restyling that same pink dress again until I remembered this vintage pussy bow blouse that has a pink Taj Mahal print. I paired it with all white, including a preloved blazer, and lots of pink accessories. This outfit consists of both preloved and new items, including a preloved faux fur coat.”

Are you a fan of pink? Do you have a favorite shade…pastel or bright or all of the pinks?

You look like a rockstar my friend! I love this outfit. I yearn to wear these subtle pinks, but honestly, they look like shit on me, so I’ll have to live vicariously through you.
And jeez! Seriously? A nipple? Yes, it should definitely by a Songful Style choice. Despite no soft pinks, I have some neon pink pieces.

Aw, thanks so much, Michelle! I was really happy with how this outfit came together. I felt super sassy! I never liked pink before I started blogging. I think I saw a picture of myself in pink on one rare occasion that I wore it and realized I love the color on me. I haven’t really found a pink since then that I don’t like until it starts fading into the peachy shades. Peachy pink is no good on me. But I suspect that peachier pinks look amazing on you.

Only you can talk about a song that long! Lol. I had, I want candy, in my head by Bow wow wow. Don’t know if you know that song. I’m not a huge pink wearer but I love this candyfloss theme!

Hahahaha, thanks so much, Nancy! You know I can talk forever on nearly any subject at all! LOL And yes I know your song, too. Now it’s stuck in my head. Sheesh. I didn’t used to like pink very much. But now I kind of love it!

Oh, I love that blouse! I always love a good print of a village, building, landscape! But, let’s talk about those boots! Velvet and a sparkly heel! Gorgeous! I find I’m drawn more and more to pink, but I have to be careful because some pinks just make me look like I have no neck (and I have a school picture to prove it…as a teacher, not a student)! Such fun looks from everyone!

Thanks, Marsha! You always manage to get me to giggle with your comments! I really like landscape and cityscape type prints on clothing, too. They are so unique and eye-catching. I guess that’s why I couldn’t resist this blouse! And my pink velvet boots with the sparkly heels are oldies but goodies! I bought them at Charlotte Russe probably 5 years ago for less than $20 and I wear them way more frequently than you would think. I never liked pink very much until I stared blogging. Now I have lots of pink and wear it often!
