The Stylish Monday Sweater Edit | October Link Up
I am back for the second time with the fabulous ladies of Stylish Monday. Stylish Monday is a monthly series published in collaboration with a group of international fashion and lifestyle bloggers. It is another opportunity to be creative with our personal style as we join together each month with a style prompt or theme.
The style prompt for October was Sweater Edit. Being a writer and taking things literally, I had to consider the word edit before proceeding. Edit means simply to correct or change. So how does that apply to sweaters in October? I guess this is where we get creative. Not only in our sartorial interpretations of personal style, but in our linguistic interpretations of the words presented to us.
I could have re-styled a sweater that I have previously shared here. That would have been a suitable edit. However, I chose instead to take an old favorite sweater that I have worn many times but have never before photographed it…correcting, if you will, my failure to share a dear beloved jumper of mine.
Foxes are my favorite animals. I don’t remember when that began. And I don’t remember ever really having another favorite animal except maybe cats. But cats are more a favorite pet while foxes fit the broader category of favorite animal. Of course, I also have a favorite aquatic animal (octopus), favorite fungi (mushies), and a favorite mythical creature (unicorn). My word, how I digress. This is supposed to be about my sweater…
My foxy sweater! I found this cute piece at JCPenney years ago and I wear it at least once or twice every year. Navy blue and yellow is not my favorite ever combination (those were my school colors all through grade school and you know how that can make you dislike something). But still I could not resist this cute foxy sweater.
I paired it with light washed cropped flare jeans which are also super old. I haven’t worn these jeans in a few years because they were not fitting properly. But I recently shed a few pounds and now they work again! A cute little knit beret is a new acquisition because I need all the hats for winter. I am just too darn cold all the time. The cognac booties are also new to me (recently thrifted) and they are so comfortable and warm (they are lined in sherpa).
I completed my sweater edit with a thrifted moto jacket in brown and by adding my favorite fox head necklace. It is teeny tiny and delicate in rose gold and I just love it. I found it years ago at Kohl’s and couldn’t resist. And that’s all I have for you today.
Now let’s check out how the other ladies have interpreted this month’s Sweater edit theme! Be sure to scroll to the end to join our Link Party!
Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood
“A colorblocked pink and fuchsia sweater is perfect for October particularly, because Pink raises awareness for Breast Cancer Month. This happy, bright piece is a new find from Target as are those new leopard pants (wish I had sized down in them, they have a hidden elastic band). Throw in a pumpkin, and I am ready for Fall with all of my sweaters!”
Ada
Andy of Pearls and Pantsuits
“Ponchos are such a fun and easy way to add a light layer to an outfit. This plaid one has been one of my wardrobe staples for years. I love the plaid pattern and autumnal colors. I can’t wait to pull it out each fall!”
Andy
Emma of Style Splash
“I won this tunic sweater from Bonmarche in a Christmas giveaway on Instagram a couple of years ago. The length gives me the option of wearing it as a dress with thick tights and long boots as I’ve done here, or over black skinny jeans and ankle boots when it’s colder.”
Emma
Julie of Fashion Trends and Friends
“Sweater season in Illinois lasts from potentially September through March and sometimes into April. (Last year, we got snow on Halloween!) If you did the math, that’s half a year at the least and possibly a full seven months. Therefore, this midwest girl loves her sweaters of all colors, styles and of course fun, unique and embellished sweaters are even better in my book! I first saw this sweater on IG and loved how it was styled plus the fact that it says Rock and Love. Hope you take a minute to read my blog and see all the ways it can be worn and styled both in warmer climates as well as when it gets colder.”
Julie
Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style
“I love sweaters, because I am always cold. The thicker the better! But I don’t like cowls, they don’t look good on me. Which is a pity because they are so much warmer then a v-neck. Ah well, the things you suffer for the sake of fashion!”
Nancy
Nicole of High Latitude Style
“I saw this red cashmere sweater in a consignment store. It was my size, color and the price was right. So I gave it a new home in my closet despite I already had two other red cashmere sweaters. However, they have a turtle and crew neck, respectively. Thus, a V-neck was different enough. And, for my excuse, one can never have too many neutrals, right?”
Nicole
Nina of Sharing a Journey
“Cozy sweaters and cardigans make styling fall outfits so much fun.”
Nina
Suzanne of Ask Suzanne Bell
“Out here in California, the weather has her own idea of what fall looks like. With cold mornings to very high afternoon temperatures; our Autumn weather tends to be a bit manic, making my go-to knit something I can throw on and off with ease in the form of a cardigan or sweater vest. Layered over anything from jeans and a t-shirt, to a transitional sundress, either of these California wardrobe staples allows me to enjoy the look of “fall”, despite our Indian Summer weather”.
Suzanne
And me!
“I found this cute fox sweater at JCPenney a few years ago and I have never shared it on my blog before. I love the fun geometric graphic of the fox. Foxes are my favorite animal so I added my little rose gold fox necklace, too. This sweater is perfect for the beginning of sweater weather because it is a lighter weight knit and has 3/4 sleeves. I can even comfortably pair this sweater with shorts for a cute transitional look.”

Such a cute top! Foxes are fascinating – they look more like dogs, but they move like cats. Fun theme! You know, I don’t even own sweater. LOL! The weather here just never requires it. Anyway wonderful outfit! Love your hat. I need to makes some….

Thanks so much, Michelle! Foxes are such cool animals. I love when I spot them in the wild. I get so excited! And I actually am a little surprised that you don’t any sweaters. Doesn’t it get cold in air conditioned buildings all the time? That would be my problem. I am always freezing! I hope your week is off to a great start!

I love your old favourite fox jumper, Shelbee. I think you styled it perfectly with flare jeans and brown boots. You look adorable in a beret.

Love how you got super creative and smart with the theme and “edited” your sweater look perfectly. Makes me think I have to find my own fox sweater and wear it soon! Plus it has the perfect Fall colors. Speaking of colors, navy and yellow were my college colors (University of Michigan – one of the best colleges in the nation) check it out! So, I would totally wear this look.
Last I noticed how you put our names as contributors in alphabetical order. You did well my friend. Love how we all interpreted this theme!!
P.S. Is your Good Buy or Good Bye theme this week Camo and what date is the post?!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Ada! This was a fun theme! I have so many sweaters, it was difficult to choose one and keep it interesting! I almost wore a similar one to Julie’s but mine says “Salty But Sweet”. Everyone looks so wonderful and perfectly cozy for fall! Yes, the camouflage post will go up on this Friday. If you can get me something by tomorrow, we will definitely be able to include them!

Shelbee,
I love your fun fox sweater and the connection between the colors of the sweater and your school! Similarly, fashion tends to evoke emotion for myself, which is probably why we like it so much! It brings us back to happy memories as well as creates new memories! I can almost always remember what I wore to an event.
It’s been another fun collaboration! I’m sure happy that you’ve joined the group! I look forward to next month’s theme!

shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Julie, thanks so much! I definitely attach emotions to all of my outfits and clothing! I think that is why I have such trouble parting with things that should really be parted with! Haha. I also remember what I wore to specific events and I keep a mental inventory of everything that is piled in my closet mess. Finding the things in the pile is my challenge these days. I need to get back to my closet clean out soon! Your sweater post was so fabulous and I nearly wore a similar sweater except mine says “Salty but Sweet”. I changed my mind at the last minute! But I am glad that I did because this foxy sweater needed a spot on my blog! I am so glad to have joined all of your wonderful women as well. Such a honor and so much fun to collaborate with you!

Hi Shelbee! I love this sweater so much! I have always been a fan of animal and inertia sweaters. They add some whimsy during the dark days of winter. I love to pair mine with a puffer vest – my go-to winter uniform. I really like your accessories and boots! That hat is darling and pulls the whole look together! Such a fun collaboration, I love all the looks!

Suzanne, thank you so much! I love sweaters with graphics on them…animals or fun slogans. It was hard to choose which sweater to feature and then I saw many of you wonderful ladies sharing multiple sweater looks. Darn, I wish I had thought of that! Oh well, foxy in the spotlight it is! This was such a fun theme for October. And I really love how everyone’s sweater styles were so different. Lots of inspiration for readers! Have a fabulous day, my friend.
