The Outfit Under the Coat & Spread The Kindness Link Up On the Edge #758

Happy Friday, y’all! Today is my birthday. 51 years young and feeling great. My life is filled with more blessings than I deserve and I am overflowing with gratitude for all the goodness around me.

There are so many things to be thankful for on the anniversary of my birth. I am healthy, I am strong, I am wise, and I woke up alive this morning, so I am winning! My husband, who is also healthy, strong, and wise, loves me without condition. My children, they are also healthy and strong, for sure. But they are youthful and smart, so the wisdom will come later. They are amazing kids and I am so proud of the young men they are becoming.

I didn’t deserve any of it, but I hoped and prayed for the life I have and eventually I got it. It took a lot of hard work, a lot of pain, and a lot of growth to get to this blessed place. So I guess maybe I do deserve it after all. Either way, I am grateful for every blessing in my life no matter how small it may be. Cheers to 51 years of living!

So yesterday, I shared this outfit but it was hidden beneath my new suede coat from The Jacket Maker. It is such a joyful outfit that I wanted to show it without the heavy winter coat. Since my birthday should be celebrated in joyful clothing, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to do just that!

When I bought these pants in North Carolina last year, I really didn’t think they would be as versatile as they are turning out to be. I previously wore them for an outfit that was inspired by the year I was born, making it even more appropriate to share this outfit on my birthday. I have also styled these bell bottoms with a neon orange poncho that has bright yellow tassels, a yellow tee tied at the waist, a lime green tank top, and a white eyelet baby doll top. But I didn’t photograph any of those outfits. I was merely wearing them for the day because these pants are crazy and comfortable and that combination is totally my jam.

So this is what was under the coat…a green gauzy baby doll top that I found in a thrift store in North Carolina last year for the purpose of wearing with these pants, my upcycled wrap made from two thrift store scarves, my tan platform sandals, mushroom earrings and necklace, and my fabulous new floral hat (worn the right way this time).

The older I get, the crazier and more exuberant I want my clothes to be. I am way too old to be all dull and boring. It is the years of life experience that make us interesting, after all.

For my birthday, my only wish is that all good folks get to live their very best lives filled with many blessings but even more gratitude. If you feel compelled to celebrate me today, all I ask is that you offer words of kindness to a stranger. You never know how that will uplift their day.
