The Jacket Maker Meets Festival Style

Have you heard of The Jacket Maker? Nearly a decade ago, the founders of the company saw a large gap in the market between luxury and fast fashion brands when it came to leather jackets. Wanting to fill that market void with high quality leather jackets and coats, the company was started to offer stylish options at a more consumer friendly price point. With prices ranging from $300 to $500 and women’s sizes ranging from XXS to 3XL (US sizes 00-24), there is something for almost everyone. If you find yourself between sizes, The Jacket Maker also offers custom sizing. Just send them your measurements and they will make sure that your leather coat fits like a glove.
The Jacket Maker reached out to me at the end of April to see if I was interested in reviewing one of their leather coats. Since springtime here in the North Country is still feeling a lot like winter or fall weather, I decided to browse The Jacket Maker’s selection of winter coats for women. Searching for a coat that would suit my bohemian style, my eye was caught by three different coats: the Alina Shearling Leather Coat (available in two colors), the Amie Double Breasted Shearling Coat (available in three colors), and the Erica Shearling Leather Coat (available in two colors).
I settled on the Erica in the beige color because I really liked the length and silhouette the best of my three choices. Although after styling my new coat, I really wouldn’t mind adding both the Alina in black and the Amie in dark brown (check out how Lizzie in Lace styled the Amie) to my winter coat wardrobe!
For the first styling of my furry leather coat, I went with full on festival vibes wearing my favorite brightly colored bell bottoms with a thrifted green baby doll top, my green and yellow upcycled scarf wrap, my new floral sun hat, platform sandals, and mushroom jewelry. I absolutely love the way this whole look came together with the coat really making a statement.

When it came to choosing the correct size for my new coat, I took my measurements and followed the size guide. I fell firmly within the range for the size XL, but I still provided The Jacket Maker with my measurements to ensure a proper fit. If you have nontraditional measurements that make traditional sizing difficult for you, you can choose the made to measure option for the perfect fit. All you need to provide is measurements of your chest, natural waist, lower waist, and hips plus a $50 fee for the customization.
According to their delivery policy, most Jacket Maker items will ship within 1-10 business days with custom sizes shipping in 3-4 weeks and bespoke products in 5-12 weeks. Since I selected a traditional size with no customization, my order that was placed on May 7 arrived at my door on May 19. When my coat arrived, the packaging was lovely and really made me smile.

Now I am not much of an expert on what makes leather high quality but the suede on this coat is heavy and soft and smells like real leather. However, the shearling lining is made from “fully faux fur” which did have a mild synthetic odor at first but that has since dissipated. It is also slightly itchy against my skin but I imagine that it will probably get softer and less scratchy after some wear.
The construction of the coat is solid. It features two hip pockets and two little breast pockets on the inside. I kind of wish the pockets were a bit larger though. If I had chosen to utilize the bespoke process when I ordered, I could have had my pockets customized as well. But I didn’t even think of it! Apparently, you can customize all sorts of details from the type of leather to the number and size of the pockets. You can also add embroidered details and other accessories that suit your lifestyle needs.
I already mentioned that the suede is very heavy and supple. In fact, the coat is so heavy that I felt compelled to weight it. It weighed in at 5.8 pounds (2.6 kg) so it is sure to keep me warm during the North Country winters!

Although we are only three weeks away from the summer solstice, it is still quite cold in the mornings and evenings with temperatures hovering around 45˚F (7.2˚C) so I was able to comfortably wear my new suede coat to capture some photos over the weekend.
However, I will likely put it away now for the warmer season but I am very excited to wear this fabulously bohemian suede coat when the cold weather returns.
