The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book: Sweaters/Jumpers
Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book!
Welcome! This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. A series co-hosted with Nancy where you can choose whether you want to share a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). We will keep purchasing Bad Buys every now and then for a variety of reasons…it was so cheap, you were in a hurry and really wanted (needed) to buy something, it fit almost quite right. But, of course, we also have those purchases that can make us so very happy. A piece of clothing that you have had for years and that you also wear a lot. Or something you bought on a holiday and every time you wear it, you get that nostalgic holiday feeling back. Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye.
And now without further delay, let me share with you the Sweaters and Jumpers that have been submitted this month. Also, remember to visit Nancy’s Fashion Style as well to see some more cozy sweater outfits! Hopefully, you will find some inspiration from the fabulous ladies who have shared their warm winter styles.
First up is my lovely co-host, Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style with a Bad Buy sweater.
“I don’t like torn, ripped, and whatever jeans! So why did I think I would love that in a sweater? Not! I liked the color combination with the skirt though.”
Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style
Next is the gorgeous Ruth of Vogue Faux Real with a sweater that she simply cannot decide on! Let her know your thoughts if it’s a keeper or not.
“I was strolling through Kohl’s one day and this sweater screamed at me when I walked by it. I bought it without trying it on (I just don’t like taking the time to try things on in the store). I tried it on at home and thought the neckline was too wide. I was looking for something more crewneck and this is almost scoop neck-not enough to wear as an off-shoulder, though. I let it hang in the closet and think about itself for a while. Then I tried it on again and still didn’t love the neckline so I put it into the giveaway pile (I’ve just been too lazy to post it for resale and I’d already torn the tags off of it). When my husband announced he was going to gather up the giveaway pile and take the bags to a local charity, I started thinking about that sweater again. The pattern is great and I love the soft wispiness of it, so I pulled the sweater back out of the pile. When this Good Buy/Good-Bye came up, I thought it was the perfect time to force it to work or find out it’s just going to go back into the giveaway pile. This is what I came up with and it’s not bad, but I don’t just love it. Maybe a mock turtleneck? I dunno…too many clothes for north Texas-it’s 45F outside and I’m comfortable without a coat in this sweater. I think it’s going to get sold on Poshmark or Etsy or somewhere.”
Ruth of Vogue Faux Real
The fabulous Ellie of Ellibelle’s Corner is sharing a super soft and cozy Good Buy sweater.
”This Calvin Klein sweater was an impulsive buy at TJMaxx. I really didn’t need any more sweaters but it was soooo soft and I thought I’d at least try it on. I almost put it back because of the weird lose turtleneck, but I couldn’t get over the softness and the price was right, too. And I Iove this light grayish blue that almost acts like a neutral because I can pair it with many other colors!”
Ellie of Ellibelle’s Corner
Beautiful Mireille of Chez Mireille has shared a Good Buy sweater made even better by its amazing thrift shop price!
“This is my cozy $1 thrifted sweater. I love the fun sleeves and that is such a neutral that I can change the look with different toppers.”
Mireille of Chez Mireille
The super stylish Sonja of Beautysome shared one of her favorite new Good Buy sweaters.
“Last year I bought 10 new sweaters! And I have chosen the most stylish ones for this theme! This one is from Zara and I love the bling! Not too much, just a subtle part on the shoulders.”
Sonja of Beautysome
The stunning Jaqcui of Mummabstylish shared Good Buy/Not So Good Buy jumper.
”I bought this jumper from Primark basically for the colour, a soft mink brown. It’s a good style, but unfortunately the thread pulls really easily! I still wear it, but won’t wear it for best!”
Jacqui of Mummabstylish
And finally is my very own Good Buy sweater which initially gave me some doubts.
“This mustard sweater is from Old Navy and is a few years old. I loved the oversized slouchy look of it and bought it in pink as well. I wasn’t sure of the mustard color with my skin tone, but I do wear it more often than I thought. I just add a scarf to keep the mustard away from my face! A doubtful buy that ended up being a good buy.”

And now hop on over to Nancy’s post to see some more Sweaters and Jumpers worn by some very stylish ladies!
The theme for February will be Copy Cats. To celebrate our 3 year anniversary of this series, we have chosen a theme that is a little different from our normal themes. Send us your favorite “style steals” or outfits inspired by someone else, another blogger or even a friend. If you can create a side by side collage of the outfit that inspired you with your recreation of it and a brief description of who inspired you and why, we will feature it on February 15. If you do not know how to create a collage, just send us both photos and we will create one for you.
Nancy and I will be creating copy cat outfits of each other to celebrate our anniversary!
Send your photos with a few sentences describing your copy cat look and we will put you in the spotlight! Please submit your photos with a brief description by the 13th of February to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to nancy@nancysfashionstyle.com.
*By joining The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, you agree to receive a monthly reminder email for this series.
Keeping it on the edge,

It was fun doing this, Shelbee – thanks so much for letting us participate! I love seeing what everybody else did, too! LOL with Nancy and the ripped-look sweater! But I actually think it’d be pretty cute with jeans. And, like Ellie, I’m a sucker for soft sweaters (thus the one in the post above). I’m glad the one she picked up was a score for her. And the shoulder detail on Sonja’s – beautiful! I love that sweater on you but my favorite photo is the one with the black scarf around your neck – you look fabulous in black! I can see how the mustards would be a problem with some complexions and that’s a great way to wear it anyway. I’m already thinking about what my side-by-side will be for next month (and I’ll keep the explanation way shorter than it was this time).

Ruth, I am so glad that you joined us this month! And I love your fuzzy leopard sweater. Honestly, I think it looks so great and would be a keeper in my book! But then again, we should only wear the things that make us feel great! And if it isn’t quite cutting it for you, then no need to take up valuable space in your closet. I can’t wait to see your copy cat look! I have mine all done already and I am super excited to share it.

You’ve saved its life, Nancy – I’m going to give it another try. Maybe with different pants and a scarf. I dunno. It really is a pretty sweater but so boxy and with the weird neckline…. otherwise, I love it! The color of your sweater is beautiful but I’m with you on the ripped stuff. I don’t mind a little rip here and there in my jeans but I kind of end it with that. Yours has kind of a neat cold-shoulder look to it, though.

I am glad the sweater has been saved! I think it is adorable. Some of the boxy cropped sweaters are hard to style. I recently wore one over a sun dress and it was kind of cute that way. Or I do the front tuck with high rise jeans. Or over a high waisted maxi skirt is cute, too! So many things to try before you give up on it.

I still remember being confused the first time I read someone refer to sweaters as jumpers. Your mustard one looks so great on you and the addition of the scarf next to your face is genius. I did add quite a few sweaters to my closet this fall which is why I am feeling good about not buying anything right now.

Mireille, I had never heard the term jumper either until I start blogging and all my British friends call sweaters that! And since we have lots of British friends who join this series, I needed to pay homage to their terminology. I am so glad that you joined us this month! I haven’t been shopping much this season, but I did end up adding a few cozy sweaters to my wardrobe as well.

Oh I definitely agree that the mustard sweater was a good buy for you! It’s really striking with your dark hair! But great idea to add a scarf if you don’t like it next to your face!
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Gina! There are certain colors that just don’t work with my complexion. But scarves always save the day!

Lise
What a great tip Shelbee – mustard with a black scarf. Mustard also does not look great near my face but it looks fabulous with the black – who would have thought. And to Ruth, that leo sweater is stunning – imho the neck is really flattering compared to a tighter one, it is really cool Maybe without a collar peeking out and/or wrapping a scarf around the neck to hide the low scoop that you don’t like… The coloring and pattern is just fabulous – I love it. Lise

Lise, thanks so much for stopping by and for the lovely comment! I agree with you about Ruth’s sweater. I think it is absolutely gorgeous and perhaps she may like it more styled a little differently! I rely on scarves for so many things like making a color work on me that may not otherwise not work, keeping me warm, and just adding an extra element of interest to an outfit.

OK. You’ve talked me into giving it another try, Lise. I’ll rescue it from the giveaway pile when I get home this afternoon. Thanks for weighing in! <3

It’s okay, Jodie! I went back to check my emails to see if maybe I missed it, but the last one I see is your faux fur jacket from last month. I didn’t think you weren’t participating though, silly! I saw your adorable fair isle sweater on Nancy’s blog and figured you only had one to send this time. We love you anyway!

Thanks so much, Anna! I definitely need to wear a scarf with this sweater though because the mustard too close to my face just isn’t a good look!

Great outfits, I love wearing jeans 🙂 Thanks for sharing at Welcome To The Weekend Blog Hop, love stopping by and reading your blog. I am still catching up from Christmas so a little behind.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Claire! Jeans are my daily go-to, but I so rarely photograph jeans outfits for the blog these days. I feel like I am always trying to catch up just from the day before…it’s like that every day!
