Thank you to all the wonderful folks who join us each month! We appreciate you!
The Good Buy/Good-Bye Bookis a monthly series hosted by Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style and myself. Every month, we invite you to share a photo or two of your Good (or Bad) Buy items that fit the stated theme. We ask that you also provide a short description explaining if the item you are sharing was a Good Buy or one that you will be saying Good-Bye to (formerly known as Bad Buys). Nancy and I will both publish a round up post featuring all of the submissions on the 15th of each month.
Anyone who would like to participate and be featured can send us their photos with a short description via email. You do not have to be a blogger to join. Anyone is welcome! We will give you the theme for the next month at the conclusion of each post. Photos will be due to us by the 10th of the month.
If you sent me a photo, but do not see it in my post, be sure to check Nancy’s post. If you don’t see your photo in either post, please let us know right away and we will add it. Sometimes the submissions can get lost in the shuffle.
“I tried out the Snag Tights Chub Rub Shorties (shorts but technically an undergarment). They weren’t as breathable as they claimed. I got 3 pairs (I think for economy, and high hopes) and I’m planning to return 2 pairs that I didn’t open. We’ll see, I have to pay the postage to the UK. If that’s too high, to Poshmark they go! Bad buy.” -Anne
“I enjoy wearing shorts. I’m petite (5’3) and like them to be knee length or just above. Older women are wary about shorts but they’re no different than wearing a skirt to my mind.” -Gail
“Each year my mother takes me shopping for my birthday and since my birthday is after the 4th of July we always hit upon some major after summer sales. I bought these shorts a couple of years ago and they have been such a good buy! They were fairly cheap and since they are so neutral they go with just about everything.” -Joanne
“I’ve been wearing shorts so much more since you [Shelbee] taught me how great they are in the winter with tights. That’s why I was happy to find these faux leather green shorts at Goodwill. Considering they were thrifted, the price is right. I may not wear them in the summer because they are too warm, but they are perfect for every other season.” -Jodie
Ralph has developed a great love for floral shirts and brightly colored shorts that coordinate with them and I am here for it! He loves these pink ones because they are bright and super soft and lightweight. Good Buy, for sure.
I had to share another one of his floral shirt and bright shorts combinations. He doesn’t like the heavier fabric of these cotton twill shorts as much but he loves the color. Trying to get him to just stand still and let me take a photo was clearly impossible though. This kid is a truly remarkable specimen of weird. I am here for that, too. Rock on, weirdo!
I thought I liked these red Bermuda shorts when I bought them. But it turns out that I don’t really like Bermuda shorts on me at all. They were sent to the consignment shop after my last closet clean out. Good-Bye!
In recent years, I have found that I don’t really wear shorts very often. I just don’t find them to be all that comfortable. But these distressed denim short shorts have been in my closet for a long time. They are super soft and comfy from age and they seem to always fit no matter what size my body is. So I keep them around because they have never failed me and I do wear them on the rare occasion that I feel like wearing shorts. Good Buy!
You are invited to join us in August to share your favorite (or least favorite) wardrobe pieces in Shades of Blue. From powder blue to midnight blue, you can pick whatever hue suits you and send us some photos! Blue is the most popular color in the world so I am sure that everyone can play along for this round! Just put on your Blues, take a photo, and send it to us to be featured in our Good Buy/Good-Bye Book.
You are welcome to send two photos if you’d like to be featured on both blogs. Remember to include a brief description about your submissions. Please submit your photos and descriptions by the 10th of August to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to info@nancysfashionstyle.com so we can put you in the spotlight.

I am a midlife woman, wife, and stay-at-home mother of 2 boys and 2 cats. I have a passion for helping other women feel fabulous in the midst of this crazy, beautiful life.
I live in my “athletic” cotton/spandex “shorts” during the summer. For most of mine, I shortened the legs of ankle length leggings (I hacked them off with scissors and didn’t bother hemming them). They’re starting to get old and my attempt to upgrade failed. Oh well. Back to the kind that I find comfortable!
Sports shorts are great for keeping sweaty thighs from sticking together! I used to wear them all the time under my skirts and dresses especially when my kids were little. I guess they were more “modesty shorts” than “chub rub” shorts back then! Haha. But now I find them too tight and restrictive and only wear them on rare occasions.
I know what you mean with the comfort of shorts because in the summer you sweat on the car seats and they can be hot which is why skirts are such a better option.
But a pair of distressed jeans shorts can also add such great dichotomy to fancier tops in the summer so I do have a pair like that that I love!
Thank you for teaching me to wear shorts in the winter!

Jodie, you are awesome! I turned you on to wearing shorts in winter and then I basically stopped wearing shorts! LOL You are right, you get stuck to stuff in the summer time with bare legs. So I either wear long dresses or loose trousers to keep cool.
I love the photos of Ralph! Both of my boys went through a period of wearing either wildly patterned shorts or shirts…never together. Today, my youngest still goes for the wildly patterned shirts, and he’s 40!
Thanks, Marsha! Ralph has definitely been more into clothing than Archie ever has been. I do enjoy having one child who loves fashion as much as I do. And I really appreciate that both of my children admire my crazy style. Ha. I do hope they both continue to express themselves however they like and keep wearing wild prints into their 40s and beyond…like you and I do! We have taught them well, my friend.
Everyone looks great in their shorts but those photos of Ralph crack me up! My youngest likes printed shirts with colored short but his shorts are in darker blue, green, and gray tones.
Thanks, Joanne! Ralph goes back and forth between his floral shirts and bright shorts and then dark basketball shorts and worn out old tee shirts! I do love watching their personal styles evolve though. Fun stuff!

Some women look so good in shorts! I’m not one of them though. But I love the variety of styles worn this month!

I agree! I don’t really like shorts very much either. I just find them to be not very comfortable.
