The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-September 2018-Summer Dresses
Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book!
Welcome! This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. Over a year ago, Nancy and I started The Bad Buy Book, a monthly series about our worst purchases. It was a lot of fun to do and we both learned something from it, too! Nancy learned that off-white against her face is not the most flattering color. And I learned that I have a serious problem resisting a good thrift shop find when it comes to pieces that fit “good enough” but “not quite right.” However, after running that series for a year, we decided to change it a bit.
For this series, you can choose whether you want to share a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). We will keep purchasing Bad Buys every now and then for a variety of reasons…it was so cheap, you were in a hurry and really wanted (needed) to buy something, it fit almost quite right. But, of course, we also have those purchases that can make us so very happy. A piece of clothing that you have had for years and that you also wear a lot. Or something you bought on a holiday and every time you wear it you get that nostalgic holiday feeling back. Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye.
Let’s start with my beautiful co-host, Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style, showing us the first of this month’s theme, Summer Dresses!
“This is not my most favorite dress, that one is on my blog, but it’s the most worn one. it is such a easy dress! Thrifted!”
Next is the lovely Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style sharing a Good Buy.
“This photo is my favorite dress from Target recently. It’s the perfect summer dress that I even wore to the farmer’s market. It’s lightweight, non confining, and bright—all details that I love in a dress!!”
The gorgeous Regan of Nifty 50 and Fabulous shared her Good Buy Chico’s Floral Maxi Dress.
“This floral maxi dress from Chico’s has served its purpose this Spring/Summer. The perfect dress for outdoor parties, bridal showers, and lunch out with the girls. Now it is time to go back into my closet to wait for next’s years fun.”
Regan also shared her favorite parade dress.
“I Love A Parade! This simple jersey knit cold shoulder dress is the perfect dress for throwing on and running errands. Cute, cool, comfortable. I am not ready to put this dress back in the closet just yet. With no real fall in the south, I still have months of wear left. Add different accessories, throw on a denim jacket or vest and this dress will take you up till the cold air hit. Matter a fact, I love this dress so much I have it in 3 different colors.”
Super stylish Kim of Fierce Fashion shared a Good Buy dress that she has to say Good-Bye to now.
“This dress used to make me feel so comfortable and put together. It has a little more style than a regular t-shirt dress. Over this past year, I’ve lost a substantial amount of weight and it doesn’t fit well anymore. You can see in the photo that it is too big on my shoulders and full going down. Because of the unusual seaming, I’m not able to take it in. I was keeping it in my closet, because I couldn’t bare to part with it. Your Good Buy/Good-Bye series made me try it on and realize I need to pass it along. Sniffle!”
Beautiful Lisa of Coast to Coast shared a Good Buy summer dress.
“This dress was my score of the summer. Not only do I love it and get tons of compliments, I got a great deal on it. So often a dress will ride so low under the arms your bra will show. This one has a little fabric inset sewn in to keep that from happening. I wish more dresses had attention to details like this. Definitely a ‘Good Buy.’”
The stunning Julie of This Main Line Life shared a Good Buy dress as well.
“This is my best buy. I almost didn’t purchase it because it’s a little dressier than my usual style. I spend all day shuttling the kids back and forth to activities and running errands so when do I get dressed up?… or so I thought. I actually, wore this sooo many times this summer. I guess I have more occasion to dress a little than I thought and I always reached for this one.”
And now my summer dress which is actually one I should say Good-Bye to, but I may have changed my mind!
“I bought this dress at Target last summer because I loved the blue and white stripes and the maxi style. However, I absolutely hate the halter style top. I have to wear a tee shirt under it and I cannot seem to find the right one to fit it. Plus the dress is really full through the waist and hips and adds too much unwanted volume in that area. It actually photographs way better than it looks in person. I have worn it a few times and every time I wear it, I feel bleh. But it photographed really well, so I may be changing my mind about it!”
Thank you all so very much for participating with us! You are all so lovely, stylish and elegant. We loved to see your Summer Dresses. Be sure to check Nancy’s post for other summer dresses to round out the season! And also be sure to hop on over to the other bloggers and see what they are all up to today!
The theme for October will be all things Plaid! Send us your favorite (or least favorite) things that feature a plaid print. Any plaid will do whether it is on your jackets, pants, skirts, scarves, shoes, bags, or anything else in your wardrobe. Fall is the season for plaid and basically anything goes!
Send your photos with a few sentences describing your Good Buy or Good-Bye and we will put you in the spotlight! Please submit your photos with a brief description before the 10th of October to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to nancy@nancysfashionstyle.com.

So many cute summer dresses. Somehow the summer won’t stop here in Switzerland, so I am able to wear mine again today. Love, Lieske

I love this series and I love the top of the post where you talk about the things that almost fit or were such a good buy we couldn’t pass them up. I always think I am the only one that does this sort of thing. Thanks for letting me know I am not alone.

Victoria, thanks so much! And you are definitely not alone in buying things that “almost” right. I do it all the time and continue to do it! Have a fantastic weekend!

Lots of Good Buy’s this month! Thanks for including me!❤️ Gotta’ tell you Shelbee that I think that dress is cute on you. Tying the jacket/shirt at your waist might have been just the right answer. I think the tee almost looks like part of the dress and gives it a bit of a baseball tee (I’m at a loss for the right name) Happy Saturday!!! XO

Thanks for joining us, Lisa! This was a super fun roundup of summer dresses. And I don’t think I am quite ready to get of this dress. I will give it another chance, for sure. I hope you can join us next month with some plaid! Have a great weekend!

Thanks for including me. I love that dress of yours (I like the preppy stuff, as you know, ha), but I totally know what you mean about how sometimes a oufit photographs better than it actually looks in person. If it’s not making you feel awesome when you wear it, toss it. That’s my philosophy. I guess you’ve tried a belt??
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Julie, thank you for joining us with your beautiful summer dress! I did also style this dress with a belt, you can see it here, and I actually liked it that way. I also liked the casual feel with the denim shirt around the waist. I think it just needed something cinching it. I am going to keep this dress around for a bit longer because now that I have tried different styling tricks, I am not disliking it as much! I can’t wait to see all the fun plaids for October’s theme. I do hope you can join us again!

Jodie, thanks so much for joining us every month! It is so much fun seeing everyone’s good and bad buys, isn’t it? I haven’t worn many dresses at all this summer. I have kind of settled into my denim shorts and distressed jeans mode lately. But as all things do, I am sure my preferences will change a million times over! I look forward to seeing all the plaid in October. One of my all time favorite patterns!

There were so many good buys, I think I’ll have to put a little more effort into finding a dress! The parade one is so fun!
