The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book-Power Outfits
Welcome to The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book!
This is The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book. A series that I co-host with Nancy where you can choose whether you want to share a Good Buy (which is an item you are really exited about) or a Good-Bye (which is an item you are going to say good-bye to, previously known as a Bad Buy). Every month you can choose which item you want to submit. A Good Buy or a Good-Bye. We will provide the theme for each month. Photos should be submitted to us by the 10th of the month with a few sentences explaining why it is a Good Buy or Good-Bye.
This month’s theme is Power Outfits for International Women’s Month so get ready to be inspired by some of my favorite fashionable friends sharing their outfits and stories of how clothing can empower us and make us feel confident and bold.
*If you sent me a photo, but do not see it in my post, be sure to check Nancy’s post! If you don’t see your photo on either post, please let us know right away and we will add it. Sometimes the submissions can get lost in the shuffle.
Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style
“I, of course, go for the, to me, obvious look and that is black! To be seen on my blog. But I can feel powerful in other colors, too. Like this neutral outfit. Just the simplicity makes me feel I can rule the world! A white tee, which looks good on about anything, a pencil skirt and ankle boots, and all you need more are statement earrings, a good statement watch and a fabulous clutch!”
Nancy
Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style
“I think the combination of my faux leather pants and red booties made me feel very powerful!!! Who knew that clothes could be that important?!”
Jodie
Sheila of Ephemera
“I’ve seen many other leopard shirts, blouses and tops over the ensuing decade, but none of them have been as good as this one. I paid $30 for it, and have now worn it 23 times – I’d say that’s a Good Buy!”
Sheila
Valerie of Maple Leopard
“I love wearing red because it raises the pulse rate and helps us feel more energetic, powerful and attractive. During this lockdown period, it was good to be outside and feel the energy of the sun. Tommy Hilfiger is one of my favorite brands for casual style. You can still up the power with a dressed down look.”
Valerie
Joanne of Slices of Life
“I find that I feel powerful when I wear heels; something I rarely do. But I pulled this outfit together one day this month and felt like I could take on the world. My new jeans from my Stitch Fix box paired with my long black sweater were perfect with my black bootie heels. I love hearing how they click and demand attention as I walk around.”
Joanne
Ellie of Simply Ellibelle
“This may be an unconventional idea of a ‘power outfit’. But a power outfit to me personally is the idea of an outfit that presents my personal style, in which I always feel the most confident in. Then complete the look with a fitted jacket, like I did here with the trench coat. This trench coat was a hand me down from my sister so I didn’t actually pay for it, but I’d definitely call it and all the other pieces from this outfit a ‘Good Buy’.”
Ellie
And me!
I am going to share a few different styles of clothing that empower me to be my most confident self. My reminder post was all about the power of a structured blazer and I shared some of my favorite body contouring pencil skirts on Nancy’s blog. I also wanted to illustrate that there is no set formula for an outfit that will make us feel bold and confident. It just sort of happens by sartorial magic when we clothe ourselves in something that has the power to elevate our confidence to all new levels. For me, this power comes not only from blazers and pencil skirts but from outfits that highlight my femininity or make an empowering statement with an inspiring graphic tee. And sometimes, the confidence comes from some ridiculous over the top badass concoction just for the fun of it.
“Whenever I channel some serious Carrie Bradshaw vibes, I feel like I possess all the powers of every woman. Sleek stiletto heels, a tulle skirt, layers of pearls, and a bared midriff scream femininity and confidence just by virtue of having the guts to wear it in public!”
Shelbee
“A graphic tee that delivers a powerful message is one great way to boost your confidence. Not only do the positive messages empower the wearer, but they also inspire any onlookers who register the message. My ‘Strong Like Me’ tee shirt inspired me to write one of my most vulnerable and liberating posts ever. When a wardrobe piece can open one’s mind and allow clarity and inspiration to reign free, that is evidence that sometimes special garments might just possibly have magical powers sewn right into their very fabric.”
Shelbee
“I created this badass combination for a Fab 40’s apocalyptic style prompt a few years ago, The Fab 40’s Take on the End of the World. It was all for fun and creative expression but an outfit like this definitely transformed the way I held myself. I suppose you can’t lack confidence when wearing fishnets and camo shorts while toting an (unloaded) weapon!”
Shelbee
And now won’t you please hop on over to Nancy’s post for more inspiring Power Outfits in honor of empowered and confident women around the world. Before you go, however, do share in the comments what kind of clothing makes you feel powerful and confident.
Up Next….Florals for April
The theme for April’s Good Buy/Good-Bye Book will be Florals. I know I can certainly use a burst of botanical beauty to pull us out of the grips of the longest winter ever. Won’t you join us in April with your favorite (or least favorite) floral things. Remember to include a brief description about your floral pieces. Please submit your photos and descriptions by the 10th of April to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or to nancy@nancysfashionstyle.com so we can put you in the spotlight!
*By joining The Good Buy/Good-Bye Book, you agree to receive a monthly reminder email for this series.

Ooh, I am in amazing company – thank you so much for including me! I loved how powerful and confident I felt in this look.
I adore your power outfits, Shelbee – that “Carrie” one takes my breath away! Stunning! I really like seeing how different people interpret “power” – very eye-opening.
I’m excited about floral – do ya think I have much floral in my spring wardrobe…? Heh heh…
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Sheila, thank you! I am so glad that you joined us this month. I really enjoyed seeing how everyone interpreted “feeling powerful” as well. All the outfits were so totally different, too! I have so many specific pieces that make me feel empowered that it was difficult to choose just one! I am excited for the floral theme as well! I can’t believe that in four years of this series, we never featured florals!
