The Fab 40’s are Festival Ready
Happy Monday, y’all! I am back from a long over due break. Over the last two weeks, I have found myself on a crazy roller coaster of emotions which resulted from a whole bunch of nonsense going on in a very private part of my life. I think the emotional roller coaster derailed some time about three weeks ago and I tried to keep riding that broken contraption for about a week before I finally realized that I must disembark from this busted ride and do some necessary repairs!
Most of the repairs have been completed with a few counseling sessions, lots of time spent in quiet contemplation, and hours passed in meaningful and important conversations with my people, my support network, my closest confidantes.
While I am not back to 100% and probably could use another week long break, I do have some obligations to meet here on the blog. So I am going to push through this week and maybe next week with getting those posts completed and then I very well may take another break in July. And that’s okay. Because we all need to slow down sometimes, take inventory of all aspects of our lives, reevaluate, regroup, and get that derailed roller coaster back on track. So bear with me, if you will, as I find my way back to some sense of normalcy.
But let’s get to the post at hand. It is that time again when I join my beautiful friends of the Fab 40’s for our monthly style post. It was my turn to choose the theme and invite a guest blogger. And since we are right smack in the middle of what would be festival season and I am grieving hard for that loss, I chose Festival Style as a way to pay homage to all the canceled festivals this year. May we be back on track next summer because I am needing my Bluegrass circle of friends for some good ole fashioned chill time, fantastic music, and healing moments spent in the great outdoors.
So what would I wear to a music festival? Some combination similar to this outfit, most likely with a kimono. I love my kimonos this time of year not only for their aesthetic appeal and the wonderful dramatic effect they can add to almost any outfit, but they serve a practical purpose as well. This pale girl roasts in the sun no matter how much sunscreen I apply and kimonos offer the perfect sun protection while still making a style statement.
And I love my cowgirl boots for a traditional festival outfit, however, sometimes it is just too hot and humid to wear my boots comfortably. But they are really ideal if you are traipsing around a muddy field at a music festival. I am slowly amassing a collection of cowgirl boots in different colors and shaft heights. I would really like a few more different colored pairs of western style ankle boots to wear in summer. How cute are these turquoise ones, these white ones, and these red ones? But for now, I have my black distressed Durango boots which are as comfortable as they are versatile.
While this is definitely an outfit I would wear to go to a festival, it is also the style I have been wearing most often while staying at home…minus the boots. My daily warm weather outfits have been including dresses that feel like nighties paired with kimonos and mostly I am just barefoot, like a good hippie girl, since I rarely venture outside of my house these days. Now to get motivated and maybe start taking some photographs of my stay at home style. Especially since I have no intention of leaving my house any time soon.
And now let’s get to my amazing Fab 40’s friends. The Fab 40’s is a group of four fashion bloggers from around the globe. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger who is also in their 40’s to join us. This group’s goal is to take on style trends and show how we each interpret and incorporate them into our own lives. With four widely varied views, you are certain to find something that speaks to you each month and encourages you to continue to have fun with fashion after the age of 40.
I am so excited to introduce our guest blogger this month. Eva of Costume Take Out is joining us with an upcycled look that is perfect for any summer festival or any music venue. The puffy sleeves and corset style back on her beautiful floral top scream sassy, cool, and stylish. And while I may not run into Eva at an actual festival (you can read why in her post), if I did run into her, I would totally want to be her friend! (Haha, I am already her friend, but you know what I mean!)
Outfit Details: Top-Thrifted Dress that was Upcycled / Shorts and Sandals-Thrifted / Straw Bag-Souvenir from Poland
Next is Suzy of Suzy Turner Books & Style, showing off her gorgeous floral kimono paired with a simple black tank top and skinny jeans. I would absolutely wear something similar to a music festival. If you have ever attended a festival, the musicians often host late night picking sessions and the weather can get a bit cool at 1:00 in the morning sitting out in a field somewhere. I learned from my experiences last year to always pack a pair of a jeans for the late night activities.
Outfit Details: Kimono- Local Shop / Jeans-Tiffosi / Vest Top-Zara / Sandals-Aldo / Handbag-Massimo Dutti / Necklace & Bracelet-Gift from mother-in-law / Ring-Silves Medieval Festival in Portugal
Daenel of Living Outside the Stacks looks so adorable and completely festival ready in her chambray sundress and fedora. In Daenel’s own words: “I chose this outfit because I’ve always wanted to attend Essence Fest. Essence Fest is a weekend long celebration of Black music and culture and I just think I’d enjoy it. My outfit is cool and relaxed, perfect for wandering the different venues and keeping the sun out of my eyes.”
Sheela of Sheela Writes is giving me all sorts of sassy Coachella vibes in her sheer black lace dress and killer boots.
Outfit Details: Everything is either thrifted or gifted
Due to some personal issues resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, Dee of Dee Sayz is unable to participate with this group for an indefinite period of time. In the meantime, if you would like to support her, please visit her Etsy store, DeeLuxeArt.
And now my outfit. I had in mind any one of my favorite Bluegrass festivals from last year. I had hoped to attend a few of the same ones this year. But alas, I must wait until next year. At least I will have my wardrobe well planned by then.
Outfit Details (Everything is old, shopped from my closet): Dress-Old Navy / Kimono-c/o Fashion Mia / Boots-Durango (DSW) / Clutch-Target / Earrings-Good Life Gift Shop (local boutique) / Necklace and Ring-Michal Golan / Headband-?
What would you wear to a festival, or a concert, or any kind of outdoor entertainment venue?
Keeping it on the edge,

The epitome of festival chic! Good to see you back but take more time if your batteries need a little more recharging. My batteries are also spent!

Thanks so much, Gail! I will probably take more time in a week or two but right now I am enjoying getting back to something! I think I might need all new batteries anyway. Where do I find those?! Haha.

As you know, this fellow festival girl is mourning the loss of this year’s music fest season as well. We lost Woodflock and Blues fest. (Not to mention the countless concerts that are a staple in our city.) Woodflock is hosted by singer-songwriter, (and dear friend) Antsy McClain. His songs can be lovely and / or silly. I’ll leave a couple of links here in case you feel like listening. No pressure! Also? Look for this outfit to be featured at Creative Compulsions this week.

Aw, thanks so much, Michelle! I am so honored that you chose this post to feature. And I will definitely listen to Antsy McClain (but not right now, it is super early in the morning as I type this…too early even for music). I am hoping things are back to normal by next festival season and we can make the summer the best one ever! Right now, it is so disgustingly hot and humid that I don’t think I would even enjoy being at a festival right now. Stay cool, stay home, stay happy!
