The Bad Buy Book: December 2017-Bags
Welcome to December’s edition of The Bad Buy Book!
This month’s theme is Bags!
The Bad Buy Book is a series hosted by Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge and Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style. Together, we wanted to establish something fun and new. We both talked about our Sitting Shoes and so we came up with the idea for The Bad Buy Book!
We all do our best to look great in our outfits, choose the right accessories, the right makeup, the perfect shoes, and wait for the best light to shoot the most flattering outfit photos. And now we are asking you to show us the items you don’t feel your very best in. You know, those Sitting Shoes, that dress that is actually not quite your color, the skirt that is a size too small but the saleswoman said it looked amazing. We all own those items! And while they may look fabulous, they don’t always feel fabulous! So we want you to show us your bad buys and tell us the story about them! What made you purchase the item? And why do you dislike it now? And why not share them with us? We buy these things for a reason then hide them in the back of the closet. Now it’s their turn to share the limelight.
Every month on the 15th, we will both publish a post sharing the photos you have sent us along with a few sentences about your bad buy. Photo submissions will be due by the 10th of each month so we have time to edit and compile all of the entries. At the end of each post we will let you know the theme for the next month’s post. Photos and the story of your Bad Buy can be emailed to shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com or nancybaten@upcmail.nl. Please put “Bad Buy” in the subject line.
So let’s take a look at this month’s Bad Buys!
I am going to start with my fabulous co-host Nancy of Nancy’s Fashion Style.
“Okay, it needs a bit of explaining. I always have to carry my oxygen concentrator with me and the first photo is with the bag that belongs to it. I don’t like that bag and it has no pockets, so where do I have to put my phone, lipstick and keys? So Gerben has adjusted two bags so that I can put my device in a nicer bag. It’s not really a bad buy, more a must buy.
And Jodie of Jodie’s Touch of Style submitted this Bad Buy Bag belonging to her stepmom, Nancy.
“I’m sending in another photo of my step mom, Nancy (the 60+ model on my blog) for your bad buys for bags! Nancy wanted a blush purse and so picked this up at DSW. However, when she got home, she realized it was hard to fit all of her stuff in it, and then close the top over it. At least it was around her birthday, so I knew what to buy her!! And then she returned this one!”
And now my Bad Buy Bag.
“I really wanted a small red cross body bag and picked this one up on sale at Target. It’s not a bad bag really. The size and style are exactly what I wanted, but the red is almost too orange and doesn’t match any of the reds in my closet. It looks great if I have no other red in the outfit that I am pairing it with. But if I am shooting for red, this bag was a big fail!”
I hope you all enjoyed reading our post and we hope you will join us next month with your Bad Buy Winter Coats!
Happy Holidays from the Edge,
Shelbee

Jodie, you are too sweet! We love including you and your family. After all, you have been on board with our little project every step of the way. We are looking to revise it after next month in the hopes of increasing interest and participation. Something like the Good Buy (Good-Bye) Book…where we can share our themed items whether they are good buys or so bad that we need to say good-bye to them. And share a little story about them. If you have any ideas or thoughts on this revision, please let us know! Thanks for always participating and supporting us. Have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

This is a really interesting idea! As much as I try to avoid buying things that aren’t a good fit, sometimes bad choices happen!

It is so true, Jessica! And sometimes mirrors in fitting rooms are trick mirrors, in my opinion! They look great in the store then terrible when you get home. Thanks so much for stopping by and have a fabulous weekend.

I swear I just love that mannequin so much! What a great prop! I had almost forgotten that’s what it was and thought it was a real body. Cool like you!

Thanks so much, Kellyann! My friend Amy gave me the mannequin for taking shots of my boutique and Poshmark items. She stands in the nook at the bottom of my stairs and it is fun to dress her up for the holidays! Although I do sometimes still get startled when I come down the stairs in the dark! Hahaha.

I have bought some bad bags. And they usually end up at yard sales.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
That’s a good place for a bad buy bag, for sure, Stephanie! I usually buy cute clutches when I see them on clearance but I only use them for photo shoots because I rarely go anywhere without children so a small clutch is completely useless in my current life! Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful day.

I’ve got a handful of bags I regret buying !
I get so upset when I look at them in their bags just collecting dust. I should get them to the consignment store.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
You should totally consign them, Lorena! Thanks so much for stopping by!
