The Adventures of Naughty Rudolph
I know you are all familiar with the silly Elf on a Shelf tradition that made big holiday splashes back in the early 2000’s. We never jumped on the elf train because we had Naughty Rudolph already hanging around our house. He has learned a few tricks from the elves over the past 7 years since he began his first Christmas shenanigans. But I think the elves can learn a bit from him, too.
At first, Naughty Rudolph (NR as we call him for short) played some harmless kid friendly tricks like taking marshmallow baths on the kitchen table, dying the milk green (he does that every year), having tea parties and story time with the other stuffed animals in the house. He has filled the living room with balloons, assembled an entire music band on the dining room table, and had movie night by himself complete with popcorn to watch Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer.
As my children have gotten older and have become huge fans of practical jokes (I suppose that would be our doing), NR’s tricks have become a bit more, um, not so kid friendly, from farts in a jar (a vinegar soaked cotton ball created the perfect effect when the kids opened the jar), putting other stuffed animals in the blender, pooping on snowmen and grating them up for marshmallows, and butchering Shelbee, the mannequin.
Here are a bunch of photos of NR’s adventures and shenanigans over the past 7 years, in two different homes, and he is still going strong. They are in no particular order and there are a ton of his tricks that I either never photographed or just have lost the photos over the years. I apologize for the poor quality of the photos. They are old haphazard cell phone pictures.
I hope you get a chuckle and a smile from this holiday trickery and maybe will find some inspiration for your own elf tricks.
Happy holidays and cheers to all the shenanigans that keep us laughing!
Keeping it on the edge,
Shelbee

Thanks, Tamar! We have fun with it! We woke up today to drunk Naughty Rudolph who apparently threw a drinking party last night with all the snowmen decorations! Haha

Brilliant Shelbee, my daughter and her family have a naughty Elf! He’s done so many naughty things this month – even opened and played with a present from Nanny and Grandad! They’ve enjoyed playing with the playdough early though. Fab ideas hun. ;-)) Jacqui xx

Haha, thanks so much, Jacqui! We have so much fun with this naughty little reindeer! We woke up this morning to the remnants of his drunken party last night with all the snowmen in the house! There were liquor bottles everywhere. It sounds like your grand babies are enjoying their elf mischief as well!

Aw, thanks, Patrick! I am glad that it made you smile! Naughty Rudolph had quite the booze party last night! There were liquor bottles all over and empty shot glasses and passed out snowmen! I had to give him some Tylenol for his headache. Haha

You came up with some very fun ideas! I have seen the elf in store here the past couple of years but we don’t know anyone that does it, seems to be a really American thing!
Hope that you had a fun weekend 🙂 Despite the very wild and wet weather here we managed to get to a couple of Christmas parties which was lovely.

Thanks so much, Mica! This has been a fun little tradition for us. I did have a wonderful weekend, but no Christmas parties for us. We aren’t allowed! It sounds like you had a festive and fun weekend despite bad weather. Have a wonderful week ahead!

That is so funny! I love the little jokes that “Naughty Rudolph” gets up to. Grating the snowman into marshmallows is genius!

Haha, thanks, Sheila! Oh, we are having fun with this naughty little guy, for sure! Last night, he took photos of everyone on the boys’ iPads while we were sleeping and the kids are going crazy trying to figure it out! Although they understand the concept of a camera timer and “fake sleeping”, my seven year old is convinced that a timer was not used! LOL

very fun. I think anything that we can do to make the holidays a little more fun and exciting is great. They are only little once #anythinggoes

Thanks so much, Jeremy! I agree with you completely and our Naughty Rudolph definitely keeps things interesting! Last night, he took photos of everyone on the kids’ iPads while we were sleeping and the kids are going crazy trying to figure out who took the pictures! LOL
