Thanksgiving Looks & Your Own Twist Link Up #14
Your Own Twist is a monthly series hosted by Monica of Jersey Girl, Texan Heart and myself where we showcase our own interpretations of a chosen style theme. We share the theme with you ahead of time in case you are interested in joining us. You can see the upcoming themes below if you would like to create your own post around the theme and share it with us in the link party at the end of the post.
With Thanksgiving rushing in on us with unstoppable force, this is the perfect time to share some ideas for what to wear for your Thanksgiving gathering. There are tons of style ideas circulating throughout blogland right now as well as on Pinterest. They vary from dressy to casual to pajama styles depending on the theme for your holiday gatherings.
Being a military family living far from home, we never quite know what we will be doing for the holidays until the very last minute. And then our plans can change on a dime since we live in one of the worst snow belts in America. The winter weather often does not cooperate with our holiday travel plans. Sometimes we get stuck in Northern New York before traveling and there have been times when we have been stuck in the middle of our holiday away unable to get back through the lake effect snow bands in order to return home when planned.
It is all very tricky and we must always remain flexible and patient and not get upset when plans don’t pan out. Otherwise, we may spend our lives in the state of upset. And nobody needs that. Every day living requires a go-with-the-flow attitude, but the holiday season requires it even more.
All that being said, we are planning to travel to Pennsylvania for Thanksgiving this year. We are spending a few days including Thanksgiving Day at my sister’s house. And I am super excited! I am one of those fortunate people who has been blessed with a sister who is also my best friend. I miss her terribly so whenever we have the opportunity to spend time together, we sit up all night long, eating and chatting and watching cheesy holiday movies. Then we are heading to a Friendsgiving Dinner on Friday with a whole group of Jeff’s oldest and dearest friends. Some I have met over the years and others I will be meeting for the first time and I am quite excited for this event as well.
Thankfully, we are a casual bunch, both my family and Jeff’s friends, which makes packing that much easier especially when we are traveling for the holidays. I am the worst packer on the planet and will always, always pack about 10 times more than I need. I am trying to get better. So if I know the dress code is casual, I will throw a few pairs of jeans, some sweaters, and some comfortable tops into a suitcase. I will try my best to keep the color palette neutral so I only need one or two pairs of shoes and one coat.
While I may not wear this exact outfit for the Thanksgiving holiday, I will definitely be wearing some similar combination of ripped jeans, casual top, scarf, and booties. I will also have a pair of sweatpants in my bag for when the food baby starts screaming at my denim waistband that refuses to stretch.
Be sure to hop over and see what Monica has planned for the holiday. I do believe her sweet mama, Ewa of 60 Plus Experience, is visiting Monica in her new Florida home for the first time. And some of your favorite Fall and Thanksgiving outfit posts to the link party below.
What are your plans for the holidays?

I like more of a casual gathering for this holiday. My newest idea is to wear tight pants so I don’t overeat…ha ha.

While I do not have a pair of ripped jeans, that is totally my time of Thanksgiving outfit. I really like the scarf with the shirt and the fall vibes with burgundy.

I love reading about your holiday plans and weather constraints! I’m also jealous about your sister as I have four brothers and a son! But I do have a close SIL so I get some girl time! Lol! We are fairly casual, too, and it looks like we will have a pretty warm Thanksgiving. The weather has changed weirdly these last few years!
