Staying Stylish and Comfy This Holiday Season
The holidays are a special time of year when some of us want to look our very best to show our festive spirit. However, finding fashionable outfits that also keep you comfortable during all the hustle and bustle of the season can be challenging. When getting dressed for the holidays, it is important to prioritize both comfort and style so you can look and feel great as you celebrate the season with family and friends. This post offers six ideas for dressing stylishly and comfortably this holiday season. You should never have to sacrifice comfort for style when you can easily create looks that are both comfortable and stylish!
1. Dress in Layers
Layering is one of the easiest ways to stay warm and stylish during the winter holiday season. Choose lightweight materials like cotton or silk for your first layer to prevent feeling too hot as temperatures rise throughout the day. Then add a thicker second layer for warmth like a velvet kimono, a wool cardigan, or a blazer with an interesting pattern or texture. Finally, you can top off your layered look with a cozy scarf or statement coat. When you wear your clothing in layers, you will be able to remove pieces if you get too warm while still looking chic and festive. For example, you may consider wearing a beautiful Aztec jacket over a thin long sleeved top with a pair of jeans for an effortless but trendy look.
2. Opt for Looser Fits.
While fitted clothing, like fleece lined leggings, can offer an extra layer of warmth during the cold winter holidays, looser fitting clothing is often more comfortable for ease of movement. Sometimes clothing that fits tighter against the skin, especially pieces made from thicker fabrics like wool or velvet, can make you feel uncomfortable and constricted throughout the evening hours. Instead, choose slightly oversized pieces that are still flattering to your figure but will allow you to move about freely without feeling restricted by your clothing.
3. Choose Breathable Fabrics
When shopping for holiday outfits this season, pay attention to fabric types and choose breathable materials whenever possible. Natural fibers like cotton and linen are lightweight yet sturdy enough to keep out cold air while letting air circulate through them, making it less likely that you will overheat. Fabrics like flannel or fleece can also be great options because they retain heat well without making you feel stuffy or sweaty in crowded malls or rooms packed with lots of people at parties.
4. Sweats are Back.
Sweatpants and sweatshirts have been making a huge comeback this season from joggers styles to wide legged versions, oversized pullovers to cropped hoodies, so there is certainly something for everyone regarding sweats. Whether you are looking for an athleisure outfit for a day of shopping or you want something comfortably suitable to wear around the house, sweats are the way to go. You can be as creative as you want when accessorizing your sweats outfits, too. Wear your favorite trainers, a pair of colorful fashion sneakers, or even a trendy pair of boots with your sweat styles and accessorize with a cute beanie and bold blanket scarf for extra interest.
5. Accessorize Strategically.
Accessories can really make or break an outfit so accessorizing strategically can make a world of difference when styling an outfit. Accessories are great for adding color, texture, and dimension to your look. A statement necklace or bold earrings can instantly give you more style while adding a scarf or hat can provide additional coverage and warmth. When choosing your accessories for a particular look, be sure to pick pieces that complement the other elements of your outfit. For example, if you are wearing a dark floral printed dress, select jewelry in similar colors and shapes to reflect the pattern for a more cohesive look. By thoughtfully picking out accessories that accentuate your clothes, you can create stylish outfits that will help you to always look fashionable and put-together.
6. Experiment with Different Footwear.
Never underestimate the power of your footwear but always opt for comfort and style together. Invest in a few pairs of high quality shoes that will provide versatility in your wardrobe. Black pumps are a wardrobe staple because they are perfect for both dressy or casual outfits while a comfortable pair of flats or sandals are ideal for more casual looks. Neutral colored shoes in black, tan, or nude will provide the most versatility in your closet but brighter colored footwear in jewel tones or neon shades can really take your outfit to the next level.
Keeping these tips in mind, you should find it easier to create stylish and comfortable outfits for all of your upcoming holiday events. Layering different fabrics is essential for staying warm while looking fashionable. Opting for looser fitting garments will allow you more freedom of movement without compromising your personal style. And choosing quality fabrics that provide optimal breathability will ensure more comfort in preventing you from overheating. If you are at the perimenopausal stage of life like me, then you know that overheating is a real consideration, and nothing can ruin an outfit more quickly than the sweat mess that occurs from a menopausal heat flash!
I hope you all have a stylishly comfortable and sweat-free holiday season!

I definitely need clothes that aren’t tight, with all the food! Lol. Those booties with studs are fantastic!! I don’t think it’s ever seen them on you. Enjoy your Sunday love!

I live in leggings and will wear skin tight leggings all winter long. I have found that a pair of fleece lined leggings worn over pantyhose or tights in extreme cold are very warm and comfortable. I like to figure skate and leggings are not at all restricting and they are very stylish on ice. Just my thoughts. 🙂

Jamie, thanks so much for joining us again this month with your favorite leggings! I also have been living in my fleece lined leggings. They are so comfortable for all day wear and then I am always ready to do my yoga as soon as the mood hits me! I hope you have a wonderful holiday season, my friend.

Nothing could be truer then leggings are so comfortable to wear all day and everyday. And when I’m feeling up to it I can jump on my stationary bike and burn off a few calories without changing into any other work out attire. Thanks so much for the generous invite, I really enjoy your blog.
Merry Christmas, Shelbee

Fabulous outfits Shelbee. Love the faux fur coat and dapper hat. I’ve just seen on the news the “once in a generation” weather conditions the US is experiencing. OMG! Thanks for linking throughout the year, and Happy Holidays!

Thanks so much, Gail! This faux fur coat is one of my favorite things that I own! Yes, our whole country is getting slammed this weekend. We are expecting 24-48 inches (61-122 cm) of snow but that really is nothing out of the ordinary for where I live. We just got 53 inches (135 cm) of snow over Thanksgiving weekend. I hope you have a wonderful holiday, my friend!

Such a beautiful outfit! I love the kimono and faux fur jacket. I’ve been wearing wide leg joggers a lot lately because they’re warm and comfortable but can still look like I’ve made an effort when paired with a nice sweater. Thanks for linking up!
