Solitary Consignment & #SpreadTheKindness Link Up #84
I have been having so much fun these past few weekends visiting some local boutiques in my town and playing dress up! Last week, I took you all on a trip through Strut Boutique in downtown Watertown and that post seemed to be received with a lot of enthusiasm. So this past weekend, I popped into a little gem of a shop just a few blocks down from Strut Boutique. Located right in the heart of Watertown’s Public Square is the cutest second-hand shop, Solitary Consignment. Solitary Consignment specializes in second-hand items that range from fast fashion pieces to high end luxury designer brands like Louis Vuitton, Coach, Dooney and Bourke, and Frye Boots. Over the past few years, I have scored some pretty amazing pieces for super low prices from Solitary Consignment.
On Saturday, I met up with Solitary Consignment owner, Denise McLane, for a two hour long dress up session! Denise is vibrant and energetic with a passion for those beautiful luxury brands named above. She has a keen eye for fashion and styling outfits. As a result, we were on fire putting together complete outfits in her shop! Every outfit I styled in these photos is head to toe from her shop, including all of the sunglasses, showing that you can outfit yourself completely in second hand pieces and be absolutely on trend and totally fantastic!
If you are local to the Watertown, New York area, be sure to visit Denise for your styling needs and Laura for all of your insurance needs. Both of these amazing women will take great care of you. And if you are cleaning out your closets for the Fall season, why not make some extra cash by selling your lightly used pieces on consignment. Not only is it a great way to support our environment, but you are also supporting a locally female owned business! Just contact Denise to schedule an appointment to find out consignment works.
Okay, now all the business stuff is out of the way, let’s get on with these outfits! You will notice in the photos that many of the pieces still have the original tags on them. But damn it if I didn’t make notes of all the brands I was wearing. I could kick myself! I will list the brands in the photo captions for the ones I remember. If you are super interested in a piece and I don’t have it listed, just ask in the comments and I will get in touch with Denise for the answer!
Mini Dot Shorts with Bold Floral Blouse
Denim Bermuda Shorts with Harley Davidson Tank Top and Jacket
Green Dress with Denim Jacket
Leopard Tank Top, Boyfriend Jeans, and Cobalt Blue Blazer
Printed Kimono Jacket and Skinny Jeans
One great way to spread kindness in your own community is to support all those local small businesses in town. In supporting local small business, you are also supporting someone’s dream! So get outside, get downtown, and go shopping! You will be surprised by all the wonderful things you find in those quaint little neighborhood boutiques!
Do you shop second-hand? I do love a good resale shop but some of the thrift stores have an odor that I cannot tolerate. Consignment shops seem to be the way to go if you are sensitive to the smells that come with thrifting!
And now your favorite posts from last week.
Marianna of The Sweetest Clementine shared her Casual Style featuring the cutest striped flutter sleeve tee and denim shorts. My summer outfit formula has resembled Marianna’s easy look for the past few weeks. And since we still have a lot of warm weather ahead of us, it is nice to see summer outfit inspiration still going strong.
Emma of Style Splash captured my heart in her gorgeous Black and White Polka Dot Dress with Red Accessories. I am always a sucker for a pretty polka dot frock especially in black and white with dollops of deep red. Well done, Emma!
And finally, the fabulously funny Mitch of Gay NYC Dad with his post, Addicted to the Internet Memes! #StolenFromTheInternet.
I don’t even remember when I first discovered Mitch’s blog…it was probably about 2 years ago now and I visit it weekly. If you are not familiar with him, you must hop on over and check out his posts. If he doesn’t have me in stitches laughing or turn me into a puddle of emotional mom tears, he at least leaves me with a big huge feel good happy smile on my face. Seriously, go check him out!
Keeping it on the edge,

Shelbee – you look fantastic in these outfits. I have been scrolling up and down trying to decide my favourite, maybe the one with the gold bag, but I just can’t decide. I would love to pop into this boutique if I were ever nearby xx
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Thanks so much, Maria! The blue and gold outfit was the first one I styled and I loved it so much! I didn’t think I could top it, but once we got going, they just kept getting better. There were so many gorgeous things!

Shelbee, each outfit is outstanding! Denise styled you so well and it’s hard to believe those clothes are all consignment! Can’t wait to see what else you do with those jeans. If I was you I would have had a hard time leaving all those great clothes behind! What a fun couple of hours! I want to go visit Solitary Consignment!

Thanks so much, Kellyann! We had so much fun putting these outfits together. We even had other customers jumping in to help us accessorize. She has some really amazing pieces there. I actually need to do a major closet clean out and get some of my things down there to sell. They don’t seem to be moving too well on Poshmark so consignment may be the way to go for me.

Thanks so much, Kathrine! Denise really does have some amazing pieces in her shop. She is pretty selective about what she will take so you know you are getting a variety of great quality on trend pieces to choose from.

Love the name of the consignment shop. Perfect! I used to be a school teacher and was always amazed at the number of kids who shopped consignment and thrift stores. They are a perfect place to find good clothing at very reasonable prices. I think I liked the kimono jacket with the skinny jeans outfit best.
I visited Mitch’s blog for the first time recently (maybe through your link up?). He is hilarious. I will definitely visit again.
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Laurie, thanks so much! The kimono jacket is my favorite, too. Then the blue Chico’s jacket next! I do love to shop consignment. I need to do it more often, I think! But right now I am on a bit of a shopping freeze. I saw that you commented on one of Mitch’s post recently, too! He is hilarious, for sure! Have a great week, my friend.

Oh my. Where to start. First off, adore the name of the shop. And you’ve put together so many cute outfits here. Like you, I do covet that kimono jacket. I would have probably left with that one. I also love the flowered top with dotted shorts and the green dress with denim jacket. And those amazing triple strap studded shoes. Swoon! That’s fabulous you are promoting your local boutiques. As a small biz owner myself, I know how hard it is to compete with all those big chains, which is why I try to buy local whenever possible.
Theresa
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Theresa, thank you so much! Isn’t the name of the shop just the cutest?! That kimono jacket is completely on my radar but I am on a bit of spending freeze right now. The kids need all sorts of back to school stuff that is taking priority. Darn kids! Ha. I actually have those exact same dotted shorts (in the correct size) so I need to pair them with a floral blouse one of these days. And I definitely need to get out to more local shops and share here! It’s the least I can do to help promote shopping small!
xoxo

Rena
Shelbee, each of those outfits was fabulous and I agree that the floral kimono is a winner that you need to get. You and Denise put together some fantastic ensembles. It looks like Watertown is a fun place to visit and for shopping. Thanks for sharing these styling inspirations and for hosting. I’m looking forward to checking out your blog recommendation. Be well.

How great is this post Shelbee, such a fun idea to visit local boutiques. I have to say though, my favorite look on you is the leopard top with jeans! You look so great in this outfit, so flattering on you!!!

Cherie, thanks so much! It is super fun to go play dress up with women who love fashion as much as I do! That blue Chico’s coat and leopard top were the first outfit I put together and I absolutely loved it, too. The only problem was that other than the jeans, everything was a size too small! Otherwise, I may have brought the whole outfit home with me!

Just post your outfit/s this week especially and use the hashtag #thriftedchicstylechallenge. Tell us what is thrifted. Heck, you can even edit some of your older Instagram posts from last week if they had thrifted pieces in them because this month we extended it for 2 weeks. Usually it’s one week out of the month. Keep an eye for a post at the beginning of the month to tell you which week, and who to follow. You can even win a prize!!!

Shelbee,
First of all, I want to thank you, my sweet friend, for joining my “not ready for prime time” link up party!
I have been swamped with work and the new midlife conference that launched over the weekend that I thought I had rescheduled the blog to post at 0815, not 0015!
One sentence in and a completely new blog post is up and running! I hope you go back and read it!
I enjoyed how you styled the green dress with the denim jacket! So pretty my friend!
I know you shop locally and the women will appreciate the shout out from today’s post!

I was scrolling through your post, thinking of my comment, about to write about how I love thrift store shopping (which is similar) and how I love that my teenager has discovered this type of shopping as well! And then I saw my name and face! I cannot thank-you enough, you are too kind to share my blog with your readers, I am humbled.
Lastly, I have said this before, I love your posts because it is about a woman who is proud to be herself, and shows great self-esteem every week by showcasing herself and her fashion picks, along side others that she chooses (and this week it is me!).
You are a great example for us all to see!
Many thanks,
Mitch
shelbeeontheedge@gmail.com
Mitch, thank you so much for your very kind words! I don’t really know how to be anything but who I am…I guess that would be self-pride, right? I always have so much fun visiting your blog. You seem to be having such a great time all the time which is refreshing to see! Thanks for linking up with me and keeping it real in your neck of the woods!

Love these outfits on you!~ The floral top has so many great colors- I love Frye boots and have a pair.. I know that style and the fun Harley outfit looks great. I really love the last colorful jacket and the cobalt jacket outfit …really it all looks great! I love to on-line thrift shop and shop on Poshmark often. Of course I love the LV tote!
Have a great day!

Jess, thanks for all the love! I really was happy with all of these outfits. Some were not the perfect fit on me, but I managed to make them work to showcase how you can create entire outfits from a resale boutique. It was super fun playing dress up, too! I really want a pair of Frye boots, but they seem to run really small. Actually, the boots at the shop were my size and I couldn’t get my foot into them at all. Which was a valuable discovery before I went and ordered a pair in that size. I would have been very disappointed!

I first saw this post on Friday and loved all the outfits so much, especially the kimono and black pants outfit and the leopard+cobalt look. But girl, green is your color so I am sure you felt fabulous on that green dress. But seriously you look FAB in all of them and good for you for supporting a great local business. Did you keep some of the pieces?! I hope so. Also, I have to check out Mitch’s blog.
Thank you for linking up with Thursday Moda last week. A new one will be live on Wed at 8 PM Eastern time so join it again, my friend. =) Meanwhile there is a new poem on my blog, hope you like it. It is a good one. 😉
