SIA Gallery of Style | “Young Betsy Ross” by Paul Stahr

It’s SIA Gallery of Style time, my favorite part of the Style Imitating Art series! Thank you to everyone who joined us for this round.

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge, and Marsha of Marsha in the Middle. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as curator, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the curator will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join! You are invited to share your images on Instagram or other social media platforms. Just be sure to tag SalazarShelbee, and Marsha on Instagram or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

The Inspiration Artwork

I chose this painting of Betsy Ross sewing the American flag because tomorrow is our nation’s 248th birthday and I thought it would be a fun way to celebrate.

The submissions are in no particular order. If you have submitted a photo and I did not include it, please let me know and I will make the necessary edits. Sometimes emails get lost in the shuffle. You can read more details about each outfit by clicking on the individual blog links or the images in this post.

Within a World of My Own
Sally found her inspiration in the red, white, and blue flag color palette as well as the stripes on the flag and created a cute and casual outfit in a vibrant burst of bold colors. To reflect the yellow of Betsy’s dress, there is a yellow stripe in Sally’s shirt and her wavy blonde hair represents the flowing gown as well. It is the perfect outfit for Independence Day, but Sally says that she would wear this look on any mild summer day. I can’t help but smile when I look at this joyful ensemble!

Salazar made the obvious choice of her “Stars and Stripes” skirt to represent the painting. Although it is too warm for a cardigan, she added this bright yellow sweater with star buttons as a nod to Betsy’s gown. And I think the combination is absolutely brilliant!
Marsha of Marsha in the Middle

Marsha chose her one yellow dress for this challenge. Because it is not as bold and bright as Betsy’s gown, she decided to go with a more subdued color palette by adding a pastel scarf with pinks and blues of various shades. And scarves remind her of flags so it was the perfect accessory on multiple levels. This is another joyful outfit for summer!
And Me!

I hope you have enjoyed these patriotic-themed outfits that were inspired by Paul Stahr’s 1927 paining of “Young Betsy Ross”. If you would like to try one of these style challenges, be sure to stop back on Monday, July 8, 2024, for the next art inspiration. It will be Marsha’s turn to choose the artwork.

Keeping it on the edge,
