SIA Gallery of Style | Untitled Film Stills by Cindy Sherman

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Terri of MeadowTree Style, and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as curator, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the curator will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join! You are invited to share your images on Instagram or other social media platforms. Just be sure to tag SalazarTerri, and Shelbee or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

The Inspiration Artwork

You can read why I chose this specific piece as my inspiration artwork here.

We had very few participants for this round of SIA but the results were still so great. Thanks to all who have joined us!

Reni of Reni’s Odds and Sods

Reni was inspired by the gingham skirt in Untitled Film Still #48 and shared a really cute look featuring gingham trousers.

Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey

Salazar also found inspiration in Untitled Film Still #48 because she has a similar black and white gingham skirt. She “kept the black-and-white color scheme, but paired the skirt with a polka dot blouse and added a waistcoat for some additional patterns and textures.” What a great outfit with the perfect bit of pattern mixing!

Terri of MeadowTree Style

Terri drew her inspiration from Untitled Film Still #21 and a few others to create a beautiful outfit that she wore to the symphony. Her handmade tweed blazer is so wonderful for this challenge.

And Me!

I was inspired by Untitled Film Still #43, mostly because of the cool tree. And a little white dress is easy enough to style for any occasion. Even if I am just sitting in a tree for some photos.

Thanks again to everyone who joined this week’s SIA challenge. I really enjoyed all of these gorgeous looks in black and white.

*If you have submitted a photo and it was not included, please let me know and I will make the necessary edits. Sometimes emails get lost in the shuffle.

Also be sure to stop back on Monday, October 24, 2022, for the next art inspiration. It is Salazar’s turn to choose.

Keeping it on the edge,

I really enjoyed this one. Black and white can be the basis of some pretty classic styles. Cindy Sherman is such an amazing photographer. Of all her bodies of work, I like her black-and-white stills the best. I’m glad you covered her.

Thanks so much, Terri! I am really glad that I chose her Untiled Film Stills for this round, too. I knew I was going to at some point and when you switched your focus to female artists, it seemed like the perfect time! Although I did have anoher very colorful work picked out for this time. I will save that one for later! It’s not a female artist but a child artist who I am planning to feature for my next pick! I hope you are having a lovely week, my friend.

Thanks so much, Marsha! I really enjoyed this one. It was a nice change for me to go with some black and white art since all of my art picks have mostly been brightly colored ones. But I didn’t stick with a black and white outfit for this challenge. I liked the browns much better for this look! I hope you are having a wonderful week, my friend!
