SIA Gallery of Style | The Hallucinogenic Toreador by Salvador Dalí

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Terri of MeadowTree Style, and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as curator, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the curator will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join! You are invited to share your images on Instagram or other social media platforms. Just be sure to tag SalazarTerri, and Shelbee or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

The Inspiration Artwork

You can read why I chose this specific piece as my inspiration artwork here.

The Hallucinogenic Toreador by Salvador Dalí (Oil on Canvas, 1969-1970)
The Gallery of Style (in random order)

Thanks so much to everyone who joined us for this round of Style Imitating Art.

Sally of Within a World of My Own

Sally “was inspired to create this outfit using the soft warm tones of the arena background (colors), the intersecting lines/grids of flies (vertical and horizontal stripes), the bright polka dots (hair scarf), and the bull/dalmatian images (animal print shoes).” I love all the contrasting prints and the various colors that Sally incorporated into this outfit.

Reni of Reni’s Odds and Sods

Reni chose an outfit in orange, green, and beige with a floral print to represent the roses in the painting. Her floral linen skirt is so pretty combined with that gorgeous orange blouse and beige accessories.

Daenel of Living Outside the Stacks

Daenel chose this stunning orange top featuring a mixture of floral and abstract prints because it reminded her of the artwork. I love it paired with denim shorts for a cool bohemian summer look.

Michelle of My Bijou Life

Michelle had to dig deep into her closet for something that would work and she nailed it with this brilliant color combination or deep golden yellow and olive green. And check out her fabulous shoes! They have an adorable flowery detail that is perfect for this painting.

Marsha of Marsha in the Middle

Although Marsha was baffled by this challenge, she allowed the clothing to speak to her and speak to her it did with this super fun outfit that really speaks to my boho heart. She chose these printed palazzo pants because all the fun prints and muted colors reflect so many different aspects of the painting.

Bu_Terka on Ingstagram

Bu_Terka focused her outfit on the muted colors in the painting for a cool casual vibe. And she added buggy brooches, too! How cute are they?!

The Co-Hosts
Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey

Salazar chose a white blouse with cut-out embroideries that mimic the pattern of dots and the arches around the bullring. Her skirt reflects some of the colors in the painting and she accessorized with a cameo brooch as a nod to the Venus de Milo. I like how she stayed true to her usual style while still highlighting different aspects of this rather wild painting.

Terri of MeadowTree Style

With her focus on the roses and the red and green draped fabrics on the Venus statues, Terri knew right away that she would feature this stunning rose print tunic that she made herself a few years back. What a fantastic interpretation of this painting!

And me!

And I went for a matador inspired outfit in a red maxi dress anchored with a black beret and black shoes that resemble bullfighter gear. I added a green kimono with embroidered flowers to represent the roses in the painting and twin housefly brooches for the all the flies in the painting.

Shelbee on the Edge

That is the end of this Dalí edition of the SIA Gallery of Style. Thanks so much to everyone who joined for this challenging piece.

If you have submitted a photo and it was not included, please let me know and I will make the necessary edits. Sometimes emails get lost in the shuffle.

Also be sure to stop back on Monday, June 20, 2022, for the next art inspiration. It is Salazar’s turn to choose.

Keeping it on the edge,
