SIA Gallery of Style | Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Lucian Freud

About Style Imitating Art

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey, Terri of MeadowTree Style, and Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday, one of the hosts, acting as curator, selects an inspiration image that they will each post on their blogs. The following Monday, each host shares her art inspired outfit. Participants are invited to submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10:00 p.m. EST on the Tuesday following the hosts’ art inspired outfit posts. The following day, Wednesday, the curator will share all of the submissions on her blog.

You don’t have to be a blogger to join! You are invited to share your images on Instagram or other social media platforms. Just be sure to tag SalazarTerri, and Shelbee or use #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so the hosts know you have joined. Go have some fun in your closets and join the SIA challenge next week!

The Inspiration Artwork

You can read why I chose this specific piece as my inspiration artwork here.

The Artwork
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Lucian Freud

The Gallery of Style (in random order)

We had very few participants for this round of SIA but the results were still so great. Thanks to all who have joined usWe appreciate you!

Marsha of Marsha in the Middle

Marsha styled a gorgeous blue floral dress in velvet with her ever so royal purple bag and boots. Then she creatively wore a sparkly necklace in her hair like a crown with some extra pearls in her ears and around her neck. I do believe Her Majesty would have approved!

Reni of Reni’s Odds and Sods

Reni chose a white and gray color blocked sweater to reflect the colors in Queen’s hair and blue jeans to represent her dress. She added black pearls around her neck because pearls make everything seem a little bit more royal! I imagine if the Queen did ever wear jeans, she would have styled them in a similar way…simple, classy, and right on point!

Sally of Within a World of My Own

Sally’s beautiful layered look was inspired by the painting’s color palette of blues, whites, and grays. And the Queen’s crown led her to wear this stunning crystal statement necklace. I love all the different textures she included, too. Since the Queen rarely wore prints, I imagine she would have combined various textures for some print mixing fun!

Within a World of My Own
Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey

Salazar had originally planned a different outfit in gray and blue with some added sparkles, but the weather got in her way. So she restyled a warmer look with this amazing pale blue cardigan paired with tartan trousers. Her sweater brings some oil-paint-like texture to the outfit and the diamond pattern is reflective of the Queen’s crown. The tartan trousers are exactly the style of pants I would imagine Her Majesty would have worn on the few occasion when she wore pants. Well done!

Terri of MeadowTree Style

Terri took a straight forward approach to this challenge and styled a stunning color blocked outfit with a lovely blue silk blouse paired with her handmade palazzo pants. This is a such a simple yet elegant combination made even better by her awesome crown!

Shelbee of Shelbee on the Edge

And then there is me! I went with a Canadian tuxedo embellished with pearls to represent the former Canadian monarch. Shades of blue and gray reflect the colors of the painting while my floral scarf pays tribute to one of the Queen’s favorite prints.

Thanks again to everyone who joined this week’s SIA challenge. I really enjoyed seeing your fabulous sartorial interpretations of this royal portrait!

*If you have submitted a photo and it was not included, please let me know and I will make the necessary edits. Sometimes emails get lost in the shuffle.

Also be sure to stop back on Monday, February 6, 2023, for the next art inspiration. It is Salazar’s turn to choose the art.

Keeping it on the edge,

Shelbee
